    Just because you have not experienced it does not make it so black & white. I've been fit & disciplined all my life and career. 45 menopause hit me like a ton of bricks, then developed hypothyroidism and adrenal insufficiency with every side effect known to all 3. Ate raw food diet, juice fasts, vegan diet, vegetarian diet, cico diet of 800-1000 calories tops ~ kept gaining weight. No one could have told me it was ever possible, I would have said "You're crazy!" ~ I went to numerous doctors when weight started rising. I was panicked! They offered no help, just looked at me like I was complaining about a little weight. Years later and at my heaviest, done with every Naturopath I spent my savings on, I gave it one more try. Ketogenic way of eating. So glad I did. The depression lifted immediately. And through lots of tweaks, some ups & downs I'm still progressing.
    19 lbs. gone eating low carb, moderate protein and high fat. Meeting my tdee and macros easily, tracking and weighing/measuring everything I consume. It's totally worth my time and effort.
    I am worth it.
    It's been a long 7 years of battle. Now at 52 I believe I am getting my positive, in-shape self back.
    Best Wishes All and Happy Holidays ♡

Yes salad has fewer calories more volume more vitamins fills you up more etc but it also doesnt make you feel fatter in the belly and face immediately or make you feel lethargic and poisoned.

      Tyrone let's get this straight, we bodybuilders reduce our calorie intake by eating a high protein diet, low carb and very low fat and lose 2 pounds a week for at least 3 to 4 months and lose 20 to 30 pounds of fat and get our body fat down to 3% so as you can see we do the opposite, protein is NOT going to turn into fat unless you are eating an excessive amount of calories so it doesn't matter where the calories come from it's an equation, how many calories you put in and how many calories you put out "Burn" and also depends on the person's metabolism, the more muscle mass the faster metabolism, the less muscle mass the higher fat mass and slower metabolism so high protein diet + Weight training = faster metabolism = less body fat.

      The law of conservation of energy doesnt give a damn about your hormones. Its all about calories in, calories out. Its the laws of physics haha. I’ve lost nearly 100 pounds, grew up obese all that same old same story you’ve heard a million times. Most of my weight loss was on a shitty diet. It doesnt matter. Its calories in, calories out.
      Now, you should really eat a good and healthy dont for reasons more important than weight loss.

      Of cause conservation of energy is still happening but not in the way you're pointing it out right now.
      Energy output > Energy input
      -->weight loss
      That's definitely true.
      The problem is that the energy input is not equivalent to what you put in your mouth everyday.
      You lose energy on various parts of the digestion.
      What Dr. Berg wants to point out is that different micronutrients don't all get metabolized with the same effectiveness. Just take a look at thermal effect of food.
      To sum this up:
      Weight loss occurs when
      Energy Out > Energy In,
      BUT Energy of what you eat (Calories of that food) > Energy in (what your body is able to absorb)

    I’m a physique competitor (Natural) and let me tell you, every single time lowering your calories does work. I cut weight 1-2 times a year for my competitions and both times I lower my calories, hit my macros, and the weight/fat goes away every single time! My coach is 53 and he competes still and he 100% just lowers his calories and hits his macros too 😂 I start out around 220-230g of protein 310-320g of carbs and 75g of fat. And whenever my weight/fat loss stalls I lower the carbs only and I continue to lose again. I’m not saying Dr is wrong I just don’t think this applies to the general population, all my friends/competitors all just lower calories and hit macros when it’s time to shred

    • @drewc2323
      @drewc2323 4 года назад +1

      Also, a carb is just a carb, ive done both eating only good carbs during a cut and then I’ve done a cut where I eat any carbs as long as it fits my macros and the results are very similar. No lie my physique was better when I ate any carb I wanted because my sanity stayed intact. I wasn’t looking for cheat meals or binge eating because I was able to fit treats/sugar/“bad” carbs into my everyday diet. COUNT YOUR CALORIES AND MACROS ACCURATELY(every single calorie that you consume) AND YOU WILL LOSE FAT.

    Food labels and exercise trackers have us believe they are accurate to 1kCal. They are not. They can be off by 10-15-20% or more. And we're not yet taking into account how each body can respond entirely different to the same diet.
    Instead of reducing weight loss to the formula calories in - calories out = weight gain/loss, we should tell people to eat a healthy diet with plenty of vegetables, some lean proteins, some fat, and a tightly controlled amount of starch/sugar and to adjust according to their results.
    Also, please stop weighing yourself every day. There will always be day-to-day fluctuations; you can only tell a real difference after a couple of weeks.

If you eat carbs, they will be quickly converted to sugar and that is crammed into the cells and fat burning is completely shut off. Impossible in fact, until insulin goes down, and if you eat carbs all day, it doesn’t go down long enough to allow any fat burning, most of the time. This is what you get when you eat junk like cereal all the time.

      Based on your comment, I'm assuming you're probably below 30 yrs old. If you can lose weight that quick, that means you're still young, have a higher metabolism and fairly have an active life. As simple as that. For older people in general, 30 and above, it's the opposite and involves a great deal of physical activity to greatly lose weight especially having stress from work and personal life. It's really not overthinking. He is explaining it thoroughly so we can understand why it's hard to lose weight as we age. You'll probably understand what he is talking about when you get a bit older and notice your metabolism is not high as it used to be.

    But i feel incapable now, and I'm afraid that if i take her to a nutritionist, the guy or lady will be ignorant or not clever enough, and I'm afraid it could tell her so much BS that she might feel like it's not worth it.

    The biggest problem when people say that they eat small meals and low callorie, is that they actually do not eat that, people that do not track their calorie intake strictly, will always over eat when they feel the sugar rush or hunger. Been cutting and bodybuilding for 10 years now, And altho i do not need as many calories now as i did when i was 20, i still loose weight when i shed my calories by 500 of my maintanance. And i have done everything, Fasting, low carb high carb. 7 meals 2 meals. and i always get my result, because i track my calories to the point. But your regular joe that does not do this, will say they eat less but will prob binge on something after a while and ruin it all.
    I agree on the hormones thing tho, and it gets harder when you age. but insulin can only block so much when you constantly are in a deficit. you will lose weight

    It doesn't really matter what someone's metabolism is. Like put a 400lb woman on 500kcal a day I promise she will lose weight. All these people who say they hardly eat but they aren't losing weight are snacking a lot and lying about how much they actually eat. It's literally not possible to keep or gain weight whilst eating in a caloric deficit. Even with a slow metabolism it's possible to reduce calories to lose weight. It's literally impossible to keep your weight or keep gaining weight if you don't eat any food.

    I bought that first Dr. Atkins diet book back in the early 80’s so geez that is over 35 years ago. I liked the concept and was maybe 210 lbs at the time lost 30 lbs in a couple of months and gradually put it all back on but it took about 20 years so who knows maybe instead of going from 210 to 185 i would without Atkins gone from 210 to 225 or whatever so even though put the weight back still was probably better.
    One of the things i remember from that book was he would detail specific problems people might have losing that last few lbs and he would have those people go on his macadamia nut/cream cheese diet LOL do not recall as to was that the only food you coul;d eat but now see he was emphasizing high fat vs protein. Sounds like the beginning of Keto there.
    Anyway without following any one diet after i retired and simply watched my carbs and went for a 3 or 4 mile walk every day so went from the 210 to 172 in about. 1.5 years still at that weight 10 years later. Carbs say no more than 80 a day but have had , for example, 1x a month fries with my McDouble than just wal a little more the next day

      Ivan Ramirez I used to say the same thing but you are wrong. Remember adding the creamer to your coffee can easily add and extra 150 calories alone. A piece of cheese? 150. Couple crackers? 150. Hell my breakfast sandwich has 450 calories in ONE meal. Plus coffee with coffee mate and your already at 500. Two more of those sandwiches and your at 1500. That’s no food at all. You are eating more than you think you are which is keeping you at a small deficit. Period

    • @GO3sLOW6Pk
      @GO3sLOW6Pk 6 лет назад +2

      No i think he counts his calories perfectly right. I think the caloric deficit slowed his metabolism and on top of that, he increased his cortisol (fat making hormone) and insulin also fat making hormone. These 2 hormones still exists even if you go on caloric deficit diet. The fastest way to burn fat is to lower insulin. Insulin makes fat in the body and determines if you burn. Before you go bezerk on me, im not making this up. It says in the textbook of medical physiology. If you want evidence, i can happily share this book with you, over 1000 pages about how the body works.

    • @JohnSmith-wr7lg
      @JohnSmith-wr7lg 6 лет назад +1

      GO3sLOW6Pk Yes thank you for the biology lesson but we all know that. There is not a single piece of medical literature that proves metabolic damage is real. If you are fat and are eating less you WILL lose weight. Your body can’t go Hmm don’t feel like running today so I’ll just stop your heart because your eating less. Every group of people who are put in a caloric deficit accurately lose weight. Maybe tell the Jews in the concentration camps about metabolic damage.

    • @JohnSmith-wr7lg
      @JohnSmith-wr7lg 6 лет назад

      GO3sLOW6Pk Now there is such a thing as muscle loss which makes you burn less calories than you are with it and if your calorie intake is too low it can cause muscle loss. Also the smaller you are the less calories you burn doing the same previous activities. So if you were 230 pounds and losing weight at 2000 calories you need to go down to 1800. This is obvious though and again people don’t accurately count calories

    Good presentation.. Saturated and Monounsaturated fats are healthy because they bypass the liver, bile and small intestine.They are short-medium chain tryglycerides with weak bonds. They are an awesome fuel source for athletes. POLYUNSATURATED and TRANS fats however, have "many" double bonds in the carbon atoms which require lots of bile and will stress out your liver in large amounts. The best fats are Olive Oil(unheated/ heat makes it very toxic), Lard, Grass fed butter, coconut oil(unhydrogenated), palm oil(unhydrogenated), Beef Tallow.... By the way Chicken fat is high in polyunsaturated so watch out. There is a myth that Canola oil is bad for you which is absurd because it is highly monounsaturated, I still don't like the flavor and their are better flavored fats. Polyunsaturated fats are pretty much polymers and will block absorption of nutrients in the gut so watch out.

However, I am only eating between 1,000 and 1,500 calories per day to drop weight, but I am trying to do it right by getting about 40% of my calories from animal protein and 60% from fat. So far it is working perfectly. I am shedding fat quickly while maintaining my muscle. In fact I am becoming more muscular. So far I have lost 50 lbs in 4 months. I have another 20 lbs to go. When I reach my goal weight I will increase my fat to arrive at 2,700 calories (to maintain my goal weight) but I will not increase my protein because I don't need to. You can only utilize so much protein for muscle maintenance. Excess protein will be wasted and/or stored as fat. At my goal weight I will possibly introduce a small amount of complex carbs for their nutrients. This is how you do it. (Former multiple 1st place physique contest winner.) I am not working out at all. I thought I would try to manage my weight through diet alone and not try to use exercise as a crutch. I will work out when I reach my goal weight.

Today I trully believe that for some people keto is the only way to lose body fat.
    Note that this happened to my after I already lost about 12 Kg with diet and exercise (during a course of year) but then I hit this plateau still at 21% body fat. I am 28.

    Your not losing weight because your eating to many calories. Just eat a balance

    Ultimately calories in calories out does matter. But of course it's not quite that simple. I gave up bread because of heartburn. I gave up sugar because I was pre diabetic. I try to eat a balanced diet. I usually walk/jog about 5 miles per day and do not exceed 1600 calories. I base everything on my BMR which is 1550 calories per day. I'm 57 and have been at this for 9.5 months and have lost 115 pounds. From 273 to 158 pounds. We can all make changes but it takes work.

    Eat enough whole unprocessed food, avoid sugars (accept in pwm if you are not keto dieting), do weightlifting and moderate cardio, have 2 grams of protein per kg of bodymass and you will lose weight. And avoid consuming whey with fats because it haves high insulin index.

    I know people who starve themselves, I got fat eating one meal a day, the only way to lose weight is busting your but in the Jim, lots of tough cardio, I have never seen a diet work, ever, only cardio through burning about 3500 cal a week, and abstaining from surgery snacks and drinks, This works, I lost 35 pounds in 4 months that way.

      +Arch Spek Amen. All the wacky, unbalanced, weird diets work - when and if they work - because they produce an energy deficit compared to the overweight person's usual energy intake. The dumbest body is smarter than the smartest coach or dietician. The critical exercise for weight loss, and fat loss in particular, is "five sets of don't eat so damn much" - consistently practiced over the long term. Its the only thing that works permanently.

      Jake Brose I do not think that is true
      If your body is not allowing to shed fat but is instead adding fat to itself (because of hormones for example or disease) then even on a deficit if one is eating junk I think it is possible to get fatter or keep around the same weight
      I think this video quite shows this
      He even just said "maybe when you were 18 you could lower your calories and lose weight like that' snaps fingers* but not anymore"

    • @bobhope4288
      @bobhope4288 7 лет назад +28

      Anthony, Calories are energy. "Junk" or "no junk" if you have more energy to burn than energy you require your body puts the excess energy into storage.
      "Junk" or "no junk" if you intake less energy than your body requires your body will use its surplus stored energy to make up the difference, right up till the moment it no longer can, then it will die.
      Regardless of how you feel about math, math does not care what you think. Energy in = energy out.

I was doing calorie restriction prior at about 1600 calories and I’ve been eating between 1400-2000 depending on the day should I calorie restrict on Keto ? Very discouraging I’ve lost so little compared to other people my goal is 20 pounds lost

    You need to understand that in ketosis when your body is using ketones excess fat calories will not and can not ever turn into fat. If you over ate protein or over ate the carbs then yes, but your liver breaks the fats down to MCFA and ketones which can not be stored as fat ever

    Foodstuffs that are high in protein and fat can also be high in micronutrients, but it's important to know where you obtain your proteins and fats. The problem is, most people associate proteins and fats with animal meats, and farmed animals aren't as nutritious as wild meats because of the homogeneous, unbalanced diets from the animals as a measure of reducing cost in animal feed. So, eating grain-fed steak is probably like eating ONLY grains, and of course, humans will be deficient in nutrients if they eat only grains or only grain-fed steak. In contrast, an avocado is very fatty, and it's also very nutritious.

    I do believe this is true and it complicates the weight loss process. The sad thing is U.S. food choices may actually have to change and evolve to keep up. For now though a lot of folks aren't going to loose so fast with this type of detail in the mix.

    Calories still count in keto, but mainly you need to keep protein in the level that you wont get gluconeogenesis and try to change fat amount until you see weight loss result. BTW anaerobic exercises are bad with using ketones, so you should have some carbs right before your workout, or if you into ketosis for a long time, try carb days, they help too
