I had the same USB C adaptor from another company and had no power consumption issues with the PD port, but it really heated up and affected performance when doing heavy duty stuff. So I just got the big Anker 11-in-1 USB C hub, but be careful of the power load as Anker told me most of their hubs need at least 15w to function all the ports and the offset will go to the PD pass through. However, if that offset isn’t enough to power a connected device - it won’t. They advised me to get a more powerful power plug instead of the 20w Apple OEM plug. I ordered the Anker Nano 3, hopefully that fixes my power issues.
Great video. I just bought it using your link based on your video & recommendation. TY👍🏻✌🏻
That’s an awesome bit of kit am having one
Nice touch, accommodating iPad cover offset.
Interesting video, thank you! Please let me ask you about audio output. You have set your Arturia soundcard to Anker hub. What was happened with Anker's 3.5mm jack output at that time? Was it disabled or both headphone outputs (Anker, Arturia) are active at the same time? I have no idea how it works especially for GarageBand where you can set almost nothing. The best scenario for me is that connected Arturia takes all audio to itself.
Thanks for a very informative video! I have an iPad Pro 11” 2022. For music and video production, can you recommend a USB-C Hub? My iPad has a Targus case. Some hubs are reported to have a 3mm Headphone Socket that doesn’t allow volume control. Some hubs wear out the iPad battery faster. Any recommendations?
Thanks. I’ve already returned two hubs that don’t work with interface or headphones. I’ll try this next.
Hi you mentioned that the new design allowed for the IPad to be in a case, I assume this means the connector is longer than the original? I had to used an additional cable to go between the IPad and the original version of the hub because of the thickness of the case I have. Not needing the need the cable would be great.
As somebody from scotland it was nice to hear the word "shoogly" used 😂
I recently sent an Anker 7 in 1 powered hub back, which I had hoped to use with my focusright Scarlett but it wouldn’t charge my iPad at the same time, the very reason I bought it.
Reluctant to trust Anker products due to this.
Thanks for the video. This is going to sound like a super dumb question but I am a newbie to using GarageBand in general and a newbie in connecting MIDI keyboards to an iPad Pro, so please moderate flamer use please! I so far connect said iPad to said keyboard using an Apple USB-C adapter with use of a MIDI/USB adapter. Works fine.
Bought this after checking out this video and tried to use the USB A port on it to stick my MIDI converter into, but no dice. How do you manage to link keyboard or controller with your iPad using this? Have to say, the main reason I bought this was to link both AND get headphones connectivity as well as HDMI to connect iPad to a nice big display. Maybe I have just been really dense here, but any pointers greatly appreciated, thanks 🙏
The problem starts when we try to mix it with a case/fold because the borders don’t fit 😢 However I got the Anker 565 and it was the best thing I ever see in a while. Its a little more expensive I know, but it is awesome and very very resistent. 😊 Nice Review as usual ❤
I have the combo Logitech touch case. And the fold gets in the way. Going to try your option.
@VictorZanoni …. how is the Anker 565 working out for you ?
@@skip4618 still working smoothly!!!
Is there a version of this that helps for attaching things to the MacBooks? I want to get something to plug into to avoid the latency I get from using my midi keyboard attached to my iPad currently, with Logic Remote connecting it to the project 😅
You going to do a review on the Teenage Engineering TX-6?
Any extension cord to connect the Anker to the IPad with a bulky case. Thank you.
Hi, been playing around with programs like Loop Pro and Software Synthesizer. Problems after problems, getting the audio in whilst getting audio out was causing huge problems. The devices I’m using are 1 iPhone 14 Pro Max and a iPhone 15 Pro Max also the device I got just for music production is a iPad Mini 6 Generation. I just found out about this device and right onto eBay and got a clone of this for cheaper. Will have to wait and see how things go with it. By the way, I’m from the East Cost, Edinburgh. You?
Does your iPad have a screen protector on it? Mine does and I have to flip the hub around in order to use it, are there any screen protectors that you can recommend that works with the hub?
Any lag on audio is what I was looking for in the review, but thanks anyway
does external monitor display work for this? i alr bought 3 diff brands but none of them worked on my ipad pro and they were not refundable im so traumatized so i hope this one works
Can we use the USB-C port to connect to an external monitor too? I realize it has HDMI but it would be great if it worked through the USB-C too.
Hi there I have an apogee usb mic which works great on my iPhone / pad .
I need an adapter to connect the lightning or usb 3 cable and have headphone out , so far the ones I’ve tried will allow charging of the device but won’t power the mic … any suggestions
Cheers
I bought a dodocool one and it burnet out the port on my new iPad Pro. Apple said the port was rusty and had been in water so should have bought one of these as I don’t think these get white hot when charging?
Would be nice if it had an ethernet connection? on that dongle.
The USB C port on this one is just for charging right? Is there any hub that will give me more USB C ports that can actually be used for some devices rather than just charging?!=
How does this fit an iPad Mini 6 as far as if it noticeably blocks speaker even tho proly usung phones.
Any nvme onboard versions ?
Are there any cautionary considerations when plugging in a USB-C charger to the passthrough port on this, or any USB-C hub? Max/min watts that may cause damage? Thank you!
Up to 60W according to Anker’s website.
While this is awesome, I'd be very interested in options for us chumps with older ipads that still have lightning ports. Are there any other options than the standard camera connection kits?
When it comes to lightning, I’d always recommend to stick with the official Apple camera connection kit. Saves a lot of headaches in the long run.
Does this hdmi will support ultrawide in 4k
Makes no sense, you need a USB-C PD port to feed the ipad, so no posibility to connect the, for example, the EVO 4 and a Sandisk. Minimum to work with music you need 3 USB-C ports: 1 PD and 2 for Data
I tried one of these on my new iPad. However, none of my thumb drives is being “seen.” The Anker lights up, the iPad shows a connection icon, and a connected charging source is charging the iPad through the Anker. Headphones also not connecting…..
How well does the hdmi port work? I want to watch the movies on my iPad on my tv and am looking for an hdmi adapter.
Works flawlessly for me, you shouldn’t have any problems!
Hi , I’m looking for one of these for my iPad 9th generation. Lightning charger input. Have you any recommendations please ? I’m hoping to use with an audio interface . Thank you
Apple’s official lightning adapter (it’s confusingly called a ‘camera adapter’) is the only dongle I’d recommend for lightning based iPads. 3rd party versions are very unreliable. More info here: thegaragebandguide.com/how-to-connect-and-record-your-guitar-on-ipad-lightning
Thank you
Any extension cord to connect that Anker from tge IPad
Sadly this won’t work with the Logitech combo touch. Because of the back piece.
As much I wanted to get it, I’ve seen a review of this item of someone having the same iPad Pro 11 inch as me with the Magic Keyboard an said that doesn’t fit. I wish this video would show that worked to prove me wrong….
No, this won’t fit with the Magic Keyboard attached.
@@TheGaragebandGuide thanks for the relying! I know this video a while ago. Again, thanks for the heads up!
Anyone tried this with the Logitech Combo Touch for iPAd Air 4th gen?
Thanks so much for this video but I have a question for you. I’ve searched everywhere, I’ve spent hours and I still can’t figure this out, like, please, someone help me. I have an iPad Pro with usb c. I just want to connect my midi controller to the iPad and also connect my headphones so I can hear what I’m doing. What do I need? Legit can’t get an answer anywhere, please help 😅
The adapter in this video will allow you to attach your controller and headphones to your iPad.
@@TheGaragebandGuide thanks so much! 😊
@@TheGaragebandGuideit works thanks soooo much 😊
Fyi, gigabytes and gigabits are not the same 🥲. 1 byte = 8 bits. So when you said 5 gigabytes per second that would be 40 gigabits per second. 5 gigabits per second is 625 Megabytes per second. 🙏🏻
Thanks for clarifying.
Mac users needs just hubs with usb-c ports not usb3, usb3.1, usb 2 etc etc, THAT is a WASTE.
Thank you for the review.
It’s 50 quid now 😮
Can anyone confirm, that this hub gets terrible hot when using with another hub on the usb-a port? On the second hub I use a novation lauchkey mini and launchpad mini. Also I use the headphone jack at the same time. Is this to much or is my hub brocken?
Yeah... I wouldn't recommend attaching a second hub to this hub really.
Are there any reliable options that don't supress the speaker sound when you don't have anything plugged into the 3.5mm plug?
Does it work on laptops as well?
No, because of its shape.
Is there one for lightning port
I’d recommend sticking with Apple’s official Lighting adapter.
@@TheGaragebandGuide okay thanks
I have iPad Pro (11-inch) (3rd generation)and doesn’t show the hub when I attach it. Do you have any advise?
What do you mean it doesn't 'show' the hub?
@@TheGaragebandGuide on the top right corner, the blue sign that the hub plugged in. It’s not there for me.
@@attilatitusbaranyi Does it work as it should apart from that?
@@TheGaragebandGuide No, I think -for some readon-it’s not detected. I fid try with android tablet with the same result.
Can this power a yeti mic
As long as it’s a USB mic, yes.
It have headphone jack?
It do!
£29.99 I would have. Seems to be £49.99 now :/
I just don't like those ones that plugs straight into the side of your iPad. one knock and it's busted the usb-c on your iPad and you don't want that
Don’t be careless and I’ll be okay. A lot of things can happen if you’re not careful.
@@David25522I'm away careful. but I wouldn't use one of those. Accidents Can Happen
Why is this channel still posting ipad content?
Why wouldn’t I still post iPad content?
None of that is impressive… just one usb-c and only for charging? Come on.
Only for charging?
@@TheGaragebandGuide That’s what you said
