- Fanfare for the Future is a short but energetic fanfare for trumpet quartet written by Chris Moran.
Chris and I were at McGill together as students of Paul Merkelo earning masters degrees. Since then, Chris has moved back halfway around the world but we’ve kept in touch. He asked me to record this, and it took a little while, but here it is!
I hope you enjoy it!
On the production front, there’s some new stuff going on!
This is my first video using a Barkley Super Infinity ribbon microphone - this is a first run mic from Mike and it’s amazing… same family sound, but livelier and more responsive (and hotter so it needs less gain). Truly incredible mic, and this one is Orange with a black grill - inspired by a 1968 Challenger
I’ve got the mic running into my Atomic Analogue special OP-6 tube preamp which is new-ish. (Also orange btw) and the two combined just makes the sound POP!
Finally this isn’t my first video using them, but I’ve gotten new background lights! They’re DMX controlled and I’m sending midi signals from Logic to light key to control the lights to go along with the music. This was simple programming with only two scenes, but the sky is the limit here. Truly incredible stuff!
