This is one of my favorite songs of the 80s. Hard to believe it only reached #61 on the Billboard charts! Should've been a top 10 hit if people had real taste in rock.

I think it was Top 5 on the Rock Chart which is pretty appropriate as this kicks arse!

Nicholas Kastanos Yeah, you're right. Unfortunately I think her looks are a bit severe and intimidating. Instead of looking like the sexy sweetheart, she looks more like the girl who would go after the sexy sweetheart. An amazing singer none-the-less

+Nicholas Kastanos She had a pretty accomplished career. She was a fave of Letterman. Somewhere there is a clip of her singing "Whole Lotta Love" with Paul and the band--I don't think any other female could handle this song. She sang on some great records-"Dion's Yo Frankie" and Henley's "Beast" also with the Hooters. She sold a bunch of her own records. In the end, it always comes down to hit songs. Today, most music/careers are manufactured.

this is my favorite patty Smyth song! she's very underrated as a singer but I think her vocals are magnificent and she deserves a spot in the top ten rock chicks of all time right up there with Stevie nicks Ann Wilson pat benatar chryssie hynd and Joan Jett.

I agree. Actually, she was Van Halen's first choice to replace David Lee Roth. Her power and projection can fit any genre of music. She chose to decline the offer. Never Enough is also my favorite Patty Smyth song by far. It however, is not available on Spotify. I have to watch it here to enjoy it.

The high energy of her vocals and the drums, combined with the softer melody of the keyboard is a unique mix that works so well. This is just a sick-ass song that I keep going back to, sometimes to get the adrenaline pumping, sometimes because I need the Patty. The emotions take over and I get lost in the song.

trivia fact: Patty Smyth covered this song from the Hooters, who had released it 10 years earlier (when they were called Baby Grand)... I'd be honored if some 80s/90s fans would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performance of IF GOD WAS ONE OF US by Joan Osborne on my YT channel in tribute to the songwriting of Eric Bazilian. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Peace and everybody stay safe.

+C130 LM Good music is still being made, it just isn't getting played on the radio. For one thing, Patty Smyth released a Christmas album in recent years. There are some really good singers out there, currently, that aren't getting played on the radio. For a current 80s style female rock singer, try Halestorm. Their lead singer reminds me a bit of Lita Ford. Other favorites of mine (singing voice wise) are: Delta Goodrem, Roy Khan (Kamelot), Alexz Johnson, and Karine Hannah.

If you served or are serving Thanks Then you know the cost of freedom. I knew a Young Women CC SRA Pam k Myers who lost her life 4/13/82 When her C130 74-1678 crashed in turkey along with 26 other service personnel. She will always have a special place in my heart. R.I.P.

Love this song for all the wrong reasons. I had had just taken "a chance for heart & soul", i.e., fallen in love with a married woman, when it came out. "It was a promise we made together" - it WAS going to work out. But you all know the story and how it ended: it really WAS never enough - commitment or a clear future. An amazing and amazingly destructively two years and I barely walked away in one piece. The memories his song conjures - 35 years later! - are "now and forever calling".

Well, as Patty herself sang, sometimes love just ain't enough.

I have heard the expression, "she left her fingerprints on me", and I like you said there are songs that take us right back to those moments. I think they also make those fingerprints glow in the dark. And in the light.

This song always puts a smile on my face 1987 and still do in 2019.
