I find it incredulous that her father claimed to have never spoken to her in her entire lifetime or even to have seen a photograph of her . Why on earth was this so ? Should this factor also not have been investigated ??
Could her injuries (dislocated jaw, injured knee, bruising around the abdomen) be the result of a vehicle accident? Perhaps she was walking home but was struck by a passing truck or car or motorcycle, and she was in a coma. The driver panicked and took her somewhere to hide, but she did not die right away. That might explain her injuries, weight loss, and the delay in her time of death.
The fact that she was likely still alive for a while after her disappearance does indicate that she may have held somewhere before being murdered and her body was thrown into the river
At the same time... What if the so-called kidnapping never happened? What if she died of complications and a friend or a relative panicked and kept her body hidden? Just a theory.
@@magnuskallascouldn’t she also have sustained those same injuries from a fall? Bruises & possible broken jaw perimortem could be bc she fell & got those injuries, died close after then. Maybe she was alive for a # of days but couldn’t move herself. And I’m sorry, but TOD is not very accurate today, let alone back then. So 20 days, 40 days..,? Could be somewhere in the middle. 🤷♀️
Where did it say she was still alive? I think it was just that her body hadn't been in the water the entire time because it had a waxiness that only decaying bodies exposed to air get.
It’s worth pointing out that William and Edith didn’t marry until Iris was eight. That is a very long time for the father of an illegitimate child to wait to marry the mother. I wonder if his paternity was just a polite, but irrelevant assumption.
@@davidhughmurrayuk At that time, it would not be unusual to cover the existence of an illegitimate child. And, where feasible, a grandmother would 'adopt' the child as one of her own. This certainly wasn't an unusual arrangement in parts of South Wales at least.
There's a phenomenon called "corpse wax" where some corpses, particularly female ones, produce a waxy coating that does an excellent job of preservation. AskAMortician has an excellent video on the topic. IIRC she mentioned a corpse found in the ocean that was initially thought to be a recent murder victim. But it turned out to be hundreds of years old. I imagine that explains the discrepancy between time of disappearance and presumed time of death and the waxy substance the coroner found.
so sad. having lost my son in very suspicious circumstances, i know the grief the wondering never goes. well put together and researched as always. thanks
I'm so sorry, that must be so hard to deal with. I hope you can get answers one day, so you don't have to wonder anymore. Much love to you.@@ladylaois8184
@@jareknowak8712 I don't think it was in the ocean like the original comment stated. Actually some kind of freshwater lake or small body of water, but yeah... I remember reading about that case too and it was a gap of hundreds of years between estimated times of death.
I haven't heard many true crime cases from Wales. RIP to poor Iris. I feel so bad for her and her family. Especially after they received that hoax letter. Reminds me of the murder of Marion Parker albeit Iris' case isn't as gruesome.
I love how you bring up cases I never knew existed. Especially ones from so long ago such as this and many others ❤ Also I would have never thought ransoms were a thing in the 20s. That feels like a new age sorta thing lol. It’s so cruel even when it’s a hoax.
Frustrating case with confusing witness testimony. Did she use the letter posting as a cover for a rendezvous. Likely imo. A local male?? Someone she knew?? Someone with a motorcycle?? Not raped. An impotent maniac?? Drizzly weather, blinding lights. A motor car ??? A side car?? More questions than answers.
I wonder if she fell off the motorbike and the person she was with tried to help her but she still passed away they may have been afraid to come forward thinking they might be charged with her death.
Just as tragic as Iris’s death, is that ridiculous picture of her. Poor child is traveling through history looking simple minded. RIP young lady, you deserved so much better!
So sorry about how this case was handled, and that rotten person who wrote that letter. RIP Iris ❤ Your videos are always excellent DC.
I find it incredulous that her father claimed to have never spoken to her in her entire lifetime or even to have seen a photograph of her . Why on earth was this so ? Should this factor also not have been investigated ??
What kind of an asshole would send a letter like that???!! 😢
One similar to a murderer. I guess.
A Size 11 a-hole😮.
Unfortunately there are plenty of arseholes in the world 😢so cruel

I bet it was her parents who ran her over if it was a car accident
I live in blackwood and had never heard of this case. RIP Iris Watkins
I live in a bargoed nearby and I haven't either
Newport here and I haven’t hear this sad story either. RIP ❤️
I'm from cearphilly thanks for telling this story, rip iris.😢
Thank you for covering a Welsh case. What a strange mystery. Wishing all of the DC fam happy and safe holidays ❇ ✨ ❇

She didn't talk to her parents and he father didn't even know what she looked like???? But was found near their house..🤔🤔🤔🤔

What a sad and tragic case. RIP Iris.
Sounds like the detectors weren't all that bothered about investigating the case tbh
"Abrupt cessation of the heart" - that is literally, how we all die. The question is, how/why the heart stops. 🤦♀️
Thank you DC. RIP Iris🙏🏼💔🕊️🦌

"hundreds of years" ?????

It’s true. If conditions are right during decomposition, this wax(called Adipocere) can preserve and “mummify” a body.

So cruel to give the family hope, when there was none. Just terrible, that a young woman, who was seemingly careful, came to the end she did.
A Good Presentation as Usual,Iris🙏

Read up on Harold Jones c. 1920s

Sounds like someone had been reading American crime novels - ransomes featured a reasonable amount in those.
I lived very close to Blackwood, South Wales for twenty years. The Manic street preachers come from there.
Such an incredibly sad case. I hope that the person or persons who committed this had justice served somehow on earth, or beyond.
So glad you're doing a case local to me
Poor lady. It’s possible Iris was kidnapped and beaten to death. She didn’t end up in the water on her own. Didn’t drown. Thank you DC.

Blackwood is like 30 minutes from me and I only learn things like this from videos!
I wonder if she fell off the motorbike and the person she was with tried to help her but she still passed away they may have been afraid to come forward thinking they might be charged with her death.
As someone with a Welsh hubby and Welsh in-laws, thank you for covering this case! Its a really disturbing one.
So sad that this was never solved
So sad indeed 😥 r.i.p. Iris.
Bruising on her thighs, but no SA?? hmmm
I wonder if she took a ride with a guy on a motorcycle she did like them she could have fallen off that could account for her seemingly odd injuries.
Up road from me… 😢

There is a possibility that the victim participated in writing this letter to his Mother.
His mother?
If this does not have the suspicion of a family feud, I don't know what does.
Very little mention of her parents really. I’m a bit suspicious of them being so close by but no contact.
Wonder if Iris wasn't going to meet someone. Someone bad that killed her.
Did it say why she was astranged from her parents?
Iris could of been stuck by a car and had injuries and died how sad and the driver just left her there 😮
❤❤❤❤❤
💔💔💔💔🕯️🪽
Just in time first
2nd..... Better later than never😮
😊
I love this channel the stories and the narrator, but I find myself passing it up 9 times out of 10 because they're TOO SHORT.
This made me lose faith in humanity ...😢
I think it's pretty obvious that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle did it . . .
Manic Street Preachers
Jesus Scotty, any happy stories 😂
It's a true crime channel?
