hey buddy quick tip, i worked in a powder coating shop for a few years and what we did to some of these really tight intricate parts was to pre heat them in the oven until they reached just under baking temp example: if your powder cures at 350 then pre heat part to 150-175 then begin the coat, it will stick instantly and in most cases we didn't need to have it hooked up to current for this to happen on rims or gate work with small openings ect ect. hope this helps if you end up seeing this :) if you have any questions PM me ill be happy to help.
You always know when someone is great at what they do, when they make what they're doing look so easy. Top job bloke. This is the best video I've seen on home powder coating...... thanks for the effort
The 1 current dislike is the oven rack that had to hold the hitch. 😂 Great video as alway Ryan!! I can not wait to see this truck finished! Keep it up!
Been using that Eastwood gun for years. If you drive a ground rod in the ground and run a wire from that to your makeshift rack the powder will attract much better than only using the little ground clip from the gun
I use a black & decker convectional oven for small parts like door handles, mtb parts and everything looks even and somewhat professional, when the powder coats the surface turn the heat down a bit.
I've got the 12" Gen-Y drop hitch and it's heavy as hell. I can only imagine how heavy that 18" one was, especially having to carry it attached to an oven rack like you did... MUCH RESPECT!!!
Anyone else count how many times he said ughhhh carrying the hitch?? 😂 all jokes aside great content as always. Thats what separates the small, do it yourself builders from the pay a shop to do it for them builders. It's pretty safe to say your probably one of the only ones powder coating parts in your basement for Sema build. I love it.
Bruhhhh that hitch weights so much I’m not some body builder but I’m sure and hell not that weak 😂😂😂😂😂 it’s damn heavy! And thanks man I really appreciate the kind words!
It's by far the best home powder coating vid I've seen yet. You know he's good because he made it all look so easy....... I'm in awe of the color he got. And how it's a silver color be4 the clear......... very interesting. Right-o I'm off to build an oven that will fit my car...... 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘😜😜😜😜😜😜👍👍👍👍
Kick ass dude, great insight on powder coating, something I’ve always wanted to do! If you can in your next video put links to the powder and powder coating machine. Thanks for the great content...
90k Subs 👍 Congratulations ! Dude, all the parts look awesome ! Thanks for the inspiration. I have put together an order for everything I need to powder coat, including a blast cabinet so I don't have to send parts out for sandblasting 😁
Hey man quick question... What did you use in the oven -Broil or Baking option? -How height is the heat? - How many minutes stayed in the big oven . -how many coat of powder normally for auto parts Thanks for advance reply
Like I said in the last video brother. When doing 2 stage powders it's best to shoot the 2nd fresh out of the first stage cure. So that's a good thing, especially something like your hitch you want optimal fusion.
I don't know if anybody is made the suggestion to you but if you buy a electric smoker with glass in the door you can take out all but the top rack and bake your coat on extremely tall parts.
God bless ya bud. You turn your own wrenches. Been watching you sense it was stock was super happy for you than and am now to see ya dreams come true. Making it to sema. Heck even if just enter into a local car show. Bet you would kill it. Love the channel.
Thanks for sharing this video I have a plum crazy purple dodge challenger a I have been waiting to poder coat some of my parts and now I going to try it with a little bit of a twist I'm going to see if I can use my hydrographic skills and the purple powder l maybe put it on my channel thanks for sharing this video you got me stoked to do this
Awesome stuff right there man. Those parts really do look incredible! Thanks for sharing your progress. It's a lot of fun to watch the parts take on a whole new look.
Hey Ryan, I have a 2016 ram that I am building. I want to install my own lift kit. It will not be as high as your semi truck. However i want to install a 3 inch lift in the front and a 2 inch lift in the back to level it out. Do you suggest I’d do it on my own ?
But sorry lol there's definitely some of us doing what your doing. I've been doing powder at home as well as standard HVLP and conventional spray on painting for years at home. All my own and as well customer work when I'm home from camp in the oilfield and have time on my week off every 21 days. So fun. Keep going with it. Find some stuff to shoot Illusion Tropical Fusion. Its another unbelievable color.
Anyone else looking up a Powdercoating setup on eBay after this? I think I fancy the idea of being the only guy in town with every nut & bolt on my truck PC’d 😂
This is the first video of yours I’ve seen. Won’t be the last! Interesting that you used a plain ol’ air compressor setup, but I didn’t see how you had the electric configured to provide the static charge. Obviously, one lead to the part/oven rack, and the other lead to the sprayer nozzle, but what is at the source end of these leads? Is there another video that shows your powder gun setup?
I love the videos man. You are an inspiration to me and I hope to have my dream truck and car as soon as I’m settled down out of college. Keep up the great vids!!!
have you noticed or not if there is any bad points of using the home oven to bake the parts in? i'm very interested doing this sort of thing to my car. is there any prep to the metal parts being powder coated?
Great job, im in Ohio Southern Lorain Co. Have a shop and the blasting booth and powder coating are will be going in. Building a truck also, not show. Fabit is the shops name on Facebook. Maybe one day we will cross paths. Keep up the great work.
I have a 97 f250 ext cab that’s white and I don’t know what color I want to powder coat suspension parts any suggestions on what color would look cool with white ?
@@Jp_5ive3hree hmmm that’s really odd! I ended up finding mine on FB marketplace. But I do have a couple videos of using it on my channel if you would like to check it out! I plan to do some more powdercoating soon, as well as trying to hit the 1,000 subscriber mark!

That 1 dislike is his wife that wanted to cook a nice dinner in the oven a week after and realised it tastes like paint....
Been using that Eastwood gun for years. If you drive a ground rod in the ground and run a wire from that to your makeshift rack the powder will attract much better than only using the little ground clip from the gun
I'm OG subscriber and I like how he does a lot things to his truck by himself
Couldn't say the same better

Don't have too many young guns out here is So Cali that know a Phillip's from a Slotted. Pretty joyful watching you do this on your own, at home.

These past few videos have pushed me to powder some pieces I’ve wanted done! It’s kick ass and I can’t wait to see it all put on the truck

Hey man just a tip, always hit the corners first. As the charge builds its harder to work the paint into the tight areas. Looks great!
Are you using the same oven for cooking and coating?
hopefully & probably not
Do you want to send a link to the powders you use?
Both the purple and the clear powder ..
They are awesome looking!
Awesome stuff right there man.
Those parts really do look incredible!

_LMAO Ryan that was actually brilliant dude_
Your setup is nice! Finish looks great!
Good job!
Looking sick man. Keep it up. So close
Still putting in your own work. Much better than paying someone else in the long run💪🏻
Very rewarding knowing that you did it !!👍
Dude you got so lucky with the size of that hitch. Perfect fit in the oven
Ryan! Custom shift knob powdercoated purple!
Looks like the gen-y symbol stayed black. So if it doesn't get stripped down to bare metal the new powder color won't stick to it?
Can't wait to see the truck completed
Nice content man i just got my blaster cabinet from Eastwood gonna star powder coating at home I just subscribed
At least you’re doing what you love.
💯💯💯
This makes me want to buy all the stuff I need to start ripping parts off my duramax so I can powder coat random things

@Ryan Mayer what brand powder did you use? How is the powder coat holding up 6 months later?

Excellent job. Looks amazing!
First time viewer, i love the project and wish you continued success @ SEMA.
So with having it lifted how'd you go about having the speedometer calibrated?

Question: where did you get the custom color seat belts?
Gerard Q Walmart
O...H... My grandfather dotted the "I" . Best 4 years of my life staying in Houck house lol
The parts look awesome man. Great job.
Looks like a basement I use to live in PA and my basement was the spot moved to Arizona and they dont do basements at all out here kinda sucks
Do you preheat the parts before powder coating? If so, what temp and how long? Thanks
jjrock5 400 degrees 20 minutes
Awesome job those parts looking badass 😬👍🏻
Are you gonna have the road armor bumpers powdered illusion purple or paint matched to the truck
Master powder coated level achieved
Amazing progress, it looks beautiful
P100 respirator bro... young now... but lungs get jacked over time or autoimmune issues later in life. Great video, stay safe

Nice work bro, I can’t wait to give this a try!
What happened at 7:02 ~ 7:03 ? a small explosion inside the oven ?
Damn that’s a killer turnout on the powder! Nice job man
