Hello) I'm from Russia and also rewieved this game. I liked it a lot, i think i like it more than other Neptunia games. Visuals are kinda wonky at first, but it gradually grows on you. And some locations are gorgeous, ecspecially with soundtrack. Like Sunken city and planeptune forests.
Gameplay is a mix between classic JRPGs - main battle system taken from Valkyrie Profile, learning skills through equipment from Final Fantasy Tactics and elemental system taken from Shin Megami Tensei in which if you strike your enemy with elemental attack that they weak to, you gain addiotional APs. So the whole game is like a homage to classic 2d games. And the game is VERY easy, i never died. Even after beating story and going for optional side quests i beat a 100 lvl dragon being lvl 72 myself) BUT, the game has missable sidequests.
I think this game is eprfect for newbies to the series. It doesn't rely very much on mythology of Neptunia series and gradually introduces all the characters. On the other hand, i personally kinda dissapointed that sisters doesn't appear in the game)
Why is it bombed in Japan? Oh, and Chrome supposed to be a first-gen goddess. So she is Magnavox Oddisey?) Or maybe Pong console?

To be entirely honest, while I'm glad that there are people who have managed to find enjoyment with this game, I'm still kind of baffled that people are actually liking it. As much as I wanted to like this game myself, I couldn't get past all the many, many glaring faults I found with it.
While this is probably the best looking entry in the entire series, even that aspect comes with a lot of buts. The environments look amazing...but they weren't implemented well. Depth-of-field issues, constant clipping issues, enemies can get concealed by foreground elements, etc. Like they were made first and then retrofitted into being explorable fields. Not to mention, while this is subjective, they lack any of the series' charm and aesthetic. The character sprites are beautiful and emote pretty nicely...but as soon as they animate even a little more than an idle animation, like walking, they look so awkward. Animations in general, especially in battles, look oddly sped up for whatever reason.
As interesting as the gameplay is to fully utilize, the game is so brain-dead easy that you don't really need to use any of it. After the first 1-2 hours of the game, I found a tactic utilizing draining skills and regen from Blanc's formation that made characters nigh-unkillable. I literally spent the rest of the game easily beating battles holding L2 (to speed up battles) and mashing the attack buttons, if not just 1-2 of them to not cause as much lag.
The story...is there. Basically yet another reimagining of the first game's story. Granted, there is more to than just that but it's all very much just there. The new characters in particular were very underdeveloped, some barely having any screen time at all despite being crucial to the story.
And that's not even getting how I think this game probably has the worst UX design I've ever seen in any video game I've played. Even basic quality-of-life features that games from decades ago have learned to implement are missing here.
    - There's no way to compare equipment in shops to what you currently have equipped.
    - The game doesn't notify you if you mastered any skills or abilities so you have to constantly check them yourself.
    - AP usage for skills aren't listed anywhere, you have to use them in battle to find out.
    - What rewards you got aren't listed when you finish quests, you have to look up what you got yourself.
    - You can't sort skills, abilities, or even party members, new entries are just dumped at the end/bottom of the list.
    - There's no item or monster compendium of any kind.
    - Text from pinned quests can block npc text.
    So on and so forth.
"Neptunia" spin-offs already have a poor reputation and this doesn't buck the mold at all. Personally, while I don't know if I'd consider it to be the actual worst entry in the series, it's definitely among the worst of them. What an utter disappointment this was.

@@PasscodeAdvance I have to agree with you, I would throw rebirth 1 and 2 on that as well, rebirth one was very solid and fun, and a great introduction, and 2 did a new introduction and made me like the sister units, (except rom and ram, they are a bit bland to me), Nep VII (original) was great, I just wish there was more game in there and less grindy elements, and also no paywalls to ultimate equipment but the gameplay was fun, wish the next forms were more important tho instead of just thrown in randomly midway, and Cyberdimension only had one issue I ran into, the initial load time on PC when you start the game which is about 3-5 minutes, after which the game plays like butter, its weird but I guess it gives me time to get a drink? I am "trying" Hyperdevotion Noire, tho these character models being so weird in battle throws me off.

Since you asked viewers about our experience with the switch version compared to what we see in this PC version video, I can be of some help. I got the switch LE. It runs like garbage. It's almost unplayable. I DID beat it, but it was a nightmare. The platforming is next to impossible becasue of how bad it runs, and there are a lot of mechanic freezes, such as during a battle, at random, it'll just stop doing things. The first day I had it, in the Volcano in Lastation, I was going up against one of those large fire monsters, and it actions altogether just stopped. Iwas no longer able to press Y to attack. Not to mention the enemy also was no longer attacking. Since ZL is fast forward, I did that and heldit for about 20 seconds. Literally nothing happened. The only option I had was to try to flee because pause and A and B worked. In fact every button EXCEPT Y worked. But no matter how many times I pressed flee and the timer went down, I never successfully fled the battle. I tried over 20 times. I was forced to exit out and reset the game. It happened multiple times. I quickly learned to save after literally EVERYTHING I did. It was tedious. Playing on switch ruined the entire experience for me.
EDIT: Oh I also forgot: Lag. Like CRAZY! EVERYTHING you do lags a ton. I put tweeted a video showing it. If you press B ((jump on switch) the button will be fully unpressed before Nep jumps in game. Horrible emulators have less lag than this game.

If u lz too much to speed up time you get a debuff on your character and it limits actions you can take did you have a clock with an x over neps head when u got stuck. As far as lag i only experience it when i get overzealous and spam buttons like spamming weak elements just to quickly get it there. The experience can be better if you know thehardware limitations. The switch version is more for people who want to take their time with it as thats how it best operates.

This is definitely the freshest Neptunia game I have played since the first game. What I like most about this game is the animation of the characters during cutscenes. Previous Neptunia games only have those visual novel style drawings of characters talking to the screen. Being able to see nep claps her hands while talking with other characters is really a step forward from the idle talking we had in previous games, hope they will keep doing moving story scenes like this in the future game.
Ps: If someone has the scene where vert is on game addiction withdrawal send me a link pls thanks 😂

    • @maroXUprising

Not sure how well this game is doing on switch considering if I’m not mistaken came out on the same week as super Mario maker 2.
But hopefully neptunia games get ported. Just don’t expect them all to get physical release for western releases. As most of the IF/CH games that are coming to switch have been all digital only, with most of them only having Asian physical releases like Moero chronicles H, Mary skelter 2 (Japanese physical only) and possibly the same will occur with Arc of the alchemist, not to mention a bunch of VN games by them as well that will just be digital only if released in the west.
So buy a large micro SD card in the future just to be on the safe side.

Sounds good to me. One thing I'm sure I'll be missing in some way is that (from what I've seen in your video) they don't have the usual skills. People might complain about "recycling", but I also like the world-consistency it brings to the table.
Also, I suppose they went "back" to silence again. I've just finished "vs. Zombies", and while they have almost everything voiced in English, they didn't do it for the special unlocks ("Backstage talk" in particular). However, instead of just being silent, they used the Japanese voices -- something that I'd love to see in all Neptunia games, at least as a setting. Even if the voices aren't identical, having scenes voiced is still better... IMHO.

I thought it was pretty good other than the glitches, I never really had any bad glitches in the previous games (never in the main games), but using fire element spells with Noire sometimes can glitch the game. It isn't really that laggy like I keep hearing, not on PS4 at least (I platinumed it in 3 days without trying so it didn't really lag), just the fast travel causes a few seconds of lag. My favorite spinoff was probably 4GO, but I still like this one since it kinda reminds me of old RPGs.

Well... this certainly is a... interesting review.
Your intro does make it seem like it's a good game just because it's something different from the usual Neptunia.
From what I've seen about this game, it seems to come with it's own Shantae/Metroidvania like Overworld?
A huge "open world" styled Gamindustri would be nice, but with how CH/IF has been reusing Assets, it's no surprise that there isn't. Not sure if that would be troublesome without any form of warp points though.
(Maybe simply include warps but still allow players to run through areas?)
Other than the 4 Goddesses, IF, Compa and whoever else returns from the cast, plus Dogoos, nothing really looks Neptunia like.
Looks more like generic steampunk like stuff which in my view doesn't really fit the colorful vibrant look of the characters, despite this being supposed to be Gamindustri.
I guess many of the other NPCs seen in the Neptunia Series don't really show up here?
The Plot's similar to what we had in the original game, except with all of the Goddesses.
This, combined with the new environment that's still supposed to be Gamindustri does make me wonder if this kind of is a Reboot in some way?
The Goddess Transformations seem to be more something to help out against tougher longer battles, you can still store it up though, still kind of a odd mechanic to have it be that way.
(Rather than having a bar that's full but decreases over time, requiring you to be in non HDD Form to fill it up again)
Break Attacks seem to be the replacements of SP/EXE Drives this time around?
Your review also didn't really go much into the negative parts, unless you count the briefly mentioned points of:
    -Wonky Animations
    -All Enemies looking like Dogoos
-Enemies being hidden by foreground visuals
    -Performance Issues after startup
-Character Traits not being as obvious to new players
At the End you said "Since you can't button mash after all."
Yet there's the battle speed up button and various different sources say that you simply can do that.
Interestingly enough, only the negative reviews have really gotten into criticism about the game, still naming positive points or being happy about people that can enjoy it, while all positive reviews are either meme ones or simply praise the game as flawless.
I do wonder about you using the EN Voices though, I guess you're aware on how different the localization, especially for the first HDN, MK2, V and Re;2 & 3 is?
The fact that I never really liked that as well as how this game was developed in Canada does make me wonder how likeable the story will be for me.
Also not a big fan of the English Voices so my ears were kinda bleeding throughout the video, they should be fine again soon though.

Super Neptunia RPG took a while for it to click with me. I kinda dropped the game after hitting Lowee because I didn't feel like I was having fun. A few days of trashing the game as a joke then feeling bad later, I came back and got sucked in hard.
I do think at least in terms of a Neptunia game that it is pretty good. The lack of playable characters does kill some replay-ability for me (As I'm soneone who likes to challenge themselves and do X only runs in Re;birth 1) but the roster itself is fine and decently balanced.
Here's the thing though... I never bought an item in this game. Equipment, sure. But item-wise I didn't buy anything. Mostly because the fast travel system allows you to heal up rather quickly along with there being no SP system (so you can just spam Omni Heal against a weak enemy while you build up HP again) and the only items I did use were Life Fragments and some Potions towards the endgame as I couldn't be bothered walking back.
It says a lot about the game when even games like Re;birth 1 a game that I've piratically mastered still requires me to stock up on items, either for tougher fights or for end game farming. Meanwhile I came into this game 100% blind and beat it within 20 hours with barely any items used.
Nothing wrong with easy games, Kirby is one of my favourite franchises, but there's a point where you start to question why the devs even implemented certain items due to how little you need them.
I sill enjoyed my time with the game, of course. A lot of what you said positively about this game I echo, but I left feeling like ti could have done more. At the very least, Chrome is a fantastic character for reasons I can't say without spoiling the game but... Well, anyone who saw the True Ending in Re;birth 1 can probably see where SNRPG was going. (No, they're not connected, despite the "Super" in the name and RB1 being in Superdimension. It could have been but one CG just blows it up entirely. RIP.)

in regards to newbies I've actually had a debate about the niche gaming market in general on twitter and regardless of how different this is still more on the niche market side of things as a series. one thing to note what you may like about this is likely again more niche than we would like to believe especially given the poor reception in japan and how so far you're the only who's given it this much praise in a review.
Super Neptunia is a game you'll either like or just straight up hate for some reason. so far at least there hasn't been much between. so it's kind of important to note why there would be reasons people wouldn't like this one as much as others as well as noting your own reasons for liking it. I'll probably look into what is about this neptune game japanese fans seem to dislike about it later cause despite that the fanbase still love the series and that may have to do with why the series is got another OVA release this week on japanese PSN to try an appease those who weren't too big on the approach super neptunia went.
just by looking at it and how it plays it can be easy to see why people would be pissed off at it in a way it does kind of look like this is something you'd get as a mobile app game. while I don't really share your skeptism on on the other games since for main titles it does make sense on why they'd take a brief explanation on what's what while others kind of do it that way too but a lot of those reasons is mostly cause unlike say pokemon or soul calibur that always look to draw new audiences every game the neptune series seems comfortable aiming for it's usual audience.
but a lot of that is just perspective from what I can tell and does need a bit of digging into in what is it about this game in particular people don't like since another reason I can probably guess is just in the fact it's less characters to play with over having more since this looks like it had enough space and budget for it but again needs to be looked into before making any big claims.
so in my opinion it's either yes or no depending on who you are and what you're looking for in a neptune game.

Hmm, looks like they took he combat system from Valkyrie Profile. There you had 4 Characters too, and each attacked when you pushed the corresponding button. Also similar is that you can attack the Enemies on the Map and then get a "first strike" like bonus.
However you could not switch where who stands in Valkyries Profile and also the amount of Attacks a character had depended on the Weapon Used. Maybe you should check that one out too! ;p
Though there are allot similarities ... from what I see they only used Valkyries Profile as a base ... and then build up allot own new stuff which looks like fun!

    • @NoxinPistol
      @NoxinPistol 5 лет назад +5

Aurora Solaris I have the same sentiments too. This game has both the best and worst combat. Let me explain.
Pros: The formation system allows for varied strategies if you need to switch moves on the fly.
Do you want to buff the party then move on the offensive? Do you want to change formation to switch out the person taking the next hit and heal them? Do you want to switch between physical, magical or elemental attacks because the enemy is weak to one of them? Having a set of moves with synergy with one another based on who you assign on the frontlines actually gives way for creative builds now that enemies require you to switch formations on whichever is your attack priority.
Cons: Pretty much everything else. Getting to that part of the game where it finally gives you these mechanics is a pain to go through, especially when the general combat itself is so un-engaging. Going through the first part of the game is a testament to how this game was first and foremost designed with a complete party. Anything below that number shows how shallow mashing the attack button is until the gauge fills up.
Speaking of which, the AP system is slow. The only way you can work around it is if you hit enemies with their weaknesses to gain AP back from an attack... or you hold down the fast forward button. Yeah. A fast forward button. Even the devs realized how boring it is to wait for your gauge to fill up. This wouldn't be an issue if downtime in between attacks aren't so passive.
Why not have an option to let us defend against attacks to gain AP if we time it correctly? This would have given incentives to be always cautious of the enemy's actions.
Why does the game only allow one action at a time whether it's the enemy or ours? This would have given players the ability to multitask considering that attacks are on separate face-up buttons. Everything seems to work around who presses the button first, so you can't even switch formations or do anything in general when the enemy is going to attack.
These are just some of my issues with the game. Don't even get me started with the quality issues regarding the menus and the PC version.
Heck, the reason why I didn't even include talking about how the HDD forms could have changed combat is because I didn't even reach that far before dropping the game. I could see why it bombed in Japan because this game is sadly the first ever Neptunia title I refunded.

  • @stungunnotapplicable1953

Honestly, to me, the game was a sort of mixed bag. I didn't have a lot of problems with what most people did. Got it on Steam. Just as a foreword, I started playing the games with the Re;birth series.
The game's glitches weren't a big problem to me. I never ran into any hard crashes and it was pretty stable.
I was rather mixed on the change in themes. Much of the game changed themes from traditional Neptunia to a more standard high fantasy feel and I'm not fully sure what to think about that. After all, the presence of meaningless technology has typically been a hallmark of the series to me. There's always a ridiculous, surreal feel to things in that regard. The art and soundtracks cotnributed to this. You speak of the soundtrack to this being subtly epic but at times, it just feels generic, and is Neptunia ever supposed to be subtle? The quality of the art and soundtrack, don't get me wrong, are extremely well done and there are some truly breathtaking moments, like the underwater section. I'm just not sure the direction is well advised.
Where it really suffers, however, is the gameplay. Which is kind of important. Every phase of the game has separate issues. At the start, when your party is limited, your tactical options suffer greatly. Nep alone can literally only do one thing in battle (aside from using items) which makes it literally just a case of 'mashing the X button'. Early on, when you start getting additional party members, they annoyingly tend to get swapped in and out and each time, you gain or lose tactical options and everything about the characters is reset when they rejoin. At this point tactics also seem worryingly constrained because you know even with a full party you have only 16 skill choices to equip, just barely enough to get a full retinue of tactical choices (and that's assuming you've mastered enough to get all your viable options). You don't have targeting control over supportive abilities either which is an unfortunate issue with the design of the battle system. Though it's not like you need all these options, keeping the right elemental abilities on hand is vital because any fight becomes fairly easy if you have an enemy's weakness covered -- since it lets you rapidly spam the same attack over and over again without worrying about AP.
Late game, you start to be able to break the game in various ways. Blanc literally is able to obtain a skill that heals, revives, and cures the ENTIRE PARTY; while pricey in AP, if you're exploiting enemy weaknesses this shouldn't be a problem. You also gain the "Spirit of" spells, the strongest elemental magic in the game and can easily gain access to the "Half AP" skill which does exactly what it says (AP costs halved), and these long animation skills have a notable exploit tied to them. If you keep spamming these spells over and over again it can prevent enemies from ever acting if you queue these spells up while the animation for the previous is still running, allowing you to basically stun-lock any boss in the game. And the long animation time makes it so that by the time the animation is concluded, you've got more than enough AP to have queued up another from a different character. This even works on enemies resistant to the attack so long as you have Half AP on all your attackers. Even the final boss and the last hunt mission are susceptible to this. Because of this (and the general lack of difficulty in the game in general), even after I had gained goddess forms, I never once intentionally used them in battle. Only when the game forced me to start fights in HDD.
    Other gripes:
    - Permanently missable quests and no New Game + feature
    - Some of the cutscene events seem to just come out of nowhere and don't make any sense whatsoever
    - The CPUs got flanderized to hell and back - Blanc can't go a single scene without talking about books and Vert is the same way for wanting to play games.
    - IF and Compa require DLC to play as
    - No cosmetic items unless you have DLC
    - DLC weapons and armor are utter ripoffs that aren't worth equipping at ANY point in the game
    - The ending was unimaginably dumb
    - Game's backgrounds don't upscale well to 4K in some places
    - Characters voice quips in battle and when jumping/dashing in the overworld can get annoyingly repetitive at times
Why would a person still want to play it, all things considered?
    - More silly Nep shenanigans and a lot of the references you know and love
    - High quality 2D art and pretty good soundtrack even if they don't stay true to the theme of Nep, IMHO
    - Some might consider it an interesting take on the world of Gamindustri
    Is it worth buying?
    - If you're not a fan of the Nep series, probably NO.
    - If you are a fan, it may be worth it, but only at a steep discount. It's just not worth $50 in my personal opinion.
    - Avoid the Ensemble Edition bundle and the following DLC: Dengeki Bracelet/Accessory Set, Famitsu Weapon Set, Enchanted Weapon Set, Cosplay/Foreign/Traditional/Enchanted Series Equipment Sets. They're completely useless equipment that you'll never wind up using. They have no abilities and the stat boosts will only be worthwhile in the early game, but you're always going to want to have items equipped that you can learn abilities from. So you're just throwing away money buying them.

Super Neptunia RPG was a really good spin-off but there are a few cons about it that really dipped my experience:
    1) Despite the whole AP limiting your actions hitting your opponent’s weaknesses was too rewarding considering that you can button mash with the right combination of spells.
    2) Final boss was abit underwhelming in my opinion. When I saw the three heads with colored gems on them I was almost impressed and was prepared for the game to test my formation skills... only to find out that it didn’t really matter cuz spamming Lightning+ Protagonist slash finished the fight in 4-5 minutes? (Also Vert with Fire Absorb made this boss look like a joke 😂)
    3) I understand giving us the weaknesses of regular enemies but bosses too? I feel like they held our hands waaay too much with that status thing XD
Anyways I’m glad that the Goddess forms were just a nice bonus and not something you desperately needed (I say that as I’m about to take on every Hunt quest now)

I think the game was very repetitive after a while, I played it on PC with an xbox controller and what I did after a while was holding down the left trigger to speed up battles, honestly the game was very refreshing nontheless and I had my enjoyment but the battle system was something that I really didnt like about it and I think an approach that would combine this battle machanic to the the one you know from other neptunia titles would have been more to my taste, like it would have been very cool if you had like those points act as turn points that you can save up by skipping turns of the characters to unleash an more powerful move on an character and so you would need to plan out rounds of battle on how you want to spend your points. As the gameplay was in the game you just sat there attacked a few times and used a heal and then you repeated the process.
For grinding there was a special grinding spot that for some reason was weirdly designed, there was an magic stone item that dealt physical dmg which was amazing against those metal slimes and there was an AoE and a single target version available at shops and I think they made the AoE very expensive because of the special grinding spot(?) which made no sense to me since you had to spam out the normal single target ones that were normal priced because you couldnt really afford the big ones that were way more expensive than the others

Dat moment when Neptunia is better at platforming than Devil May Cry.
