Lyrics:
While in these days of quiet desperation
As I wander through the world in which I live
I search everywhere for some new inspiration
But it's more than cold reality can give
If I need a cause for celebration
Or a comfort I can use to ease my mind
I rely on my imagination
And I dream of an imaginary time
I know that everybody has a dream
Everybody has a dream
And this is my dream, my own
Just to be at home
And to be all alone...with you

Beautiful song, makes me feel humble, and makes me smile, thinking of the 20 something year old man. I am 51 now, and this brings me back. I remember the 20 year old guy, and I laugh. Where did the years go? I don't know, but I thank God I am still here, and I thank Billy Joel for ALL his great music... THANKS Mr.Joel
GREGORY RUSSO Take a lap Russo.
Shamrock Rancher If you are listening to this song, complete with its introspective/nostalgic lyrics, you might as well ‘take a lap’ yourself...I thought Mr. Russos comment was fitting, given the song. But then again, I just turned 50. :)
Thank you for this... This wonderful insight, humble and true.
@Green Acres Tractor Projects Billie the KId!!!! lol Billy
I'm going to be 45 soon and I just laugh at that idea so hard. It's just comedy.
I love how the piano riff that begins "The Stranger" song also returns at the end of this one. It's classic Billy!
It's ingenious
@@theloganshow3602, absolutely! It gives the album a feeling of playing itself forever.
He does the same thing in the album "Nylon Curtain," the song "Where's the Orchestra" ending with the riff to "Allentown" that opened the album.

And if a word from you can bring a better day
Then all I have are these games that I've been playing
To keep my hope from crumbling away
So let me lie and let me go on sleeping
And I will lose myself in palaces of sand
And all the fantasies that I have been keeping
Will make the empty hours easier to stand
I know that everybody has a dream

Gods, that is one of the greatest albums ever made. So easy to get lost in in and forget what absolute shit life is; to see, for one small moment, something greater. Not many people around who can do that, especially when so many of them have been dying off lately. Glad to see there are a few still around.
+luchog Used the last tune as our grad theme back in the day. Still one of my fave albums of all time, I think I have two on vinyl, gotta go through the collection again one of these days
luchog I love getting into the car and asking my 11 year old daughter to put some music on. She always picks this album
Thats the legacy of music like this. If a 11 year old can listen to and appreciate it above the so called music of today music like this will live on forever.
I’m 16 years old, and this is by far my favorite album EVER.
This is one of Billy's most underrated songs of his career. It's one of my two favorites along with You're Only Human
I have a different...other favorite song... Until the night
And VIENNA! :)
This one, and Scenes. And Vienna. And Honesty. But, You're Only Human ranks at the bottom, along with We Didn't Start The Fire.
TheMedicalReptile All About Soul, You’re Only Human, Until The Night, Keeping the Faith, and this are probably my top 5 but there’s so many ones I personally like.
And "Honesty".
anneth delicia is the great young singer who bring me here #salutetoanneth
Everybody has a dream, some people dream of glory, but I'd like to say to all those who dream of simply a better life. The ones who dream to be treated like a person and have a place they feel safe that they can call home. I want you to know that you're seen, your dream has been heard and that you aren't alone. I want you to know that you're so incredibly brave and strong for making it this far. I want you to know that you are loved and that I believe in you, I believe that you made it this far and are strong enough to keep going. Keep fighting until you go the distance, until one day you realize that you can stop fighting now because you're home. I believe in you💗
The intro makes you feel like you're in a revival, then he launches into great, uplifting lyrics. Pure genious at work.
Anneth membawa ku kesiniiii....❤❤❤❤❤
Guwee..here
"...and I will lose myself in palaces of sand..."
yeah...haven't we all?
+A Black, ah, certainly.
I remember buying the tape of this album around the Christmas holidays in 1977, and I listened to it every day and every night till sometime late Summer 1978...I wore out the tape and had to buy a new one. The worn out tape messed up my tape player, had to replace that too. All the songs were my favorites...but Only the Good Die Young and Everybody Has A Dream may have been a little more favorite than the rest.
I did the same thing! I listened to this cassette every day for a couple of years. In the late 70s in my room with my headphones on cranked up. Later in the 80s I'd pop this cassette in my car. A few moves later I had to buy the disc I've replaced this album more than a couple of times! LOL
@@johnnie2638 Back then, I would listen to the tape on a portable tape deck when I walked or commuted around the city. When CD's finally came out. Later when iTunes came out I copied the CD onto iTunes and though I don't listen to it as often as I once did, just the mention of the album reminds me of every word of every song. Some music is just unforgettable! :)
Thumbs up for having this on the original record? :)
Does Cassette count?
Hell yeah i got that shit on record
I've had The Stranger on vinyl, cassette, and CD. I skipped the 8 track. Not a fan of that format.
i was born in 76 and grew up listening to billys music..and i made sure my kids grew up listening to his music.and i am certain they love it almost as much as i do.
Same thing my dad did with me and I can sing every word to all the songs on this album I love Billy Joel I’m 20 right now but when I have kids im going to make sure they grow up listening to Billy Joel’s and the Beatles music 🥰
@@jennawahmann7009 bless your heart, Jenna....
Yeah I force my kids to like everything I like too, and I'm sure they love it.
I think the reprise of The Stranger at the end really ties the album together. A really good ending to a fantastic album.
when the lyrics "everybody has a dream" crashes over you like a wave you can really feel his message in your mind and body
akibattt kekepoanku sama nyanyi yg dibawain anneth 😍
Love the gospel touch on this.
Billy always says "damn what am I doing righting gospel, I'm not religious" so I find some humor in that.🙂
@@margaretpariera7996 he must be like Marc Cohn in Walking in Memphis.
"She said: tell me are you a Christian, child?
And I said ma'am, I am tonight!"
Just heard this for the first time. I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH!!!
i m french and Billy Joel is for me the best american singer!i l love his songs since 30 years!
Is he singing in heaven? Divine vocals 💓
Billy's still with us.
Underrated song. And that section of The Stranger at the end is beautiful, I wish there was a longer version of it!
I've never heard this album before and I'll be 60 next year. I'm a trained musician who until this afternoon only knew Joel's singles. I wish I'd heard this in 1977 when I was 14 and just starting to write music......ah well, better late than never. Definitely one of the best albums ever.
Grew up listening to The Stranger album with my dad. Doesn't get any better!
We gotta love those sophisticated New Yorkers!
The album went platinum in NewYork alone!
Billy Joel..
He is a greatest musician in my life
Damn... A masterpiece. I was listening this song and made me feel homesick, I have some tears on my cheeks, don't know if Im laughing or crying. Today is my 20's birthday. And I have a dream like everybody. Happy Birthday to me!!!. I feel alive... and I don't know where do I start.
Hope someday go to a concert of Mr. Joel.
Happy birthday!! I’m 26 years old and I remember my 20th birthday like it was yesterday.
Happy 21st birthday!
You definitely have to see him in concert, it’s an unbelievable experience
Highly recommend go see him
I'm 57 and I've seen him in concert 5 times. Always an amazing experience! Never disappoints!!
Annethhh makasih yaa membawaku ke lagu2 enak wkwk
I grew up on Billy's 50 Greatest Hits collection and am just now going through and listening to EVERYTHING for the first time. When I first heard the piano part from The Stranger return at the end of this song, I was walking in the park and I literally had to stop and go, "Oh... whoa." Sooo cool.
Richard Tee on Hammond B-3. Great as always!
Tau lagu ini gara2 Anneth, Juara Indonesian Idol Junior 2018..
this song rocks
The name of the song is everybody has a dream...but the sad truth is that most of the people don't have any dream/dreams at all, most of the people are in the state of " i will survive"', so this is my advice to all of you out there, dare to dream and dream big! anyway, this album is my favorite billy joel album, thanks billy, take care and god bless.
A Ohhhhhh BEAUTIFUL TRACK
FROM 1977!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think of old apartments, and stuff which got left behind. Had this on vinyl but listened to the homemade cassette tape more. During art class, outside, under a tree. 1981
Love Anneth Version but still the original one never die :)
One of his best and underrated songs
out of all Billy Joel's music this song is the one on file in my brain.... in case I need to hear it... anytime I need to hear it ....great great song.
いやー、いい曲だァー、、、ビリー、ありがとー
This song isn’t my favorite thing in the world, although overall it’s one of the greatest albums ever, but that ending piano riff from The Stranger with just a few subtle sound differences keeps me coming back every time just to hear that. The background instrumentals during it and the few added and dropped notes from the original are just magical
Magnificent song!
Anneth Bring Me to here 😘😘
Your highness would spend that waltz dancing with me
😚 meu amor my lover
Anneth bring me here. Billy joel have to seen Anneth singing this song.. she is amazing young Girl..
This vocal is divinely inspired just beautiful
Any other album and this is a hit. That's how good The Stranger is! One of my favorite Billy Joel songs for sure. Perhaps his most underrated. Just an awesome energy in this with an incredible arrangement. Love it!
Yep, the Stranger is _probably_ my favourite album of all time so, yeah, got to agree that this would be regarded as a classic if it wasn't competing with several invincible piano ballads (particularly Vienna, for me) on its own album. Not just an incredible arrangement but, vocally, it's one of the greatest masterclasses in musicality I've ever heard. It's not the hardest song in terms of just getting the right notes out at the right time but to sing a version of this quality? Forget about it - doesn't matter how technically brilliant you might be. Your soul needs to be made of music and you need to be in the form of your life.
In terms of _most_ underrated, it's up there but I have heard it covered a few times (being on American Idol isn't necessarily a stamp of quality but it _is_ a stamp of notoriety) so it at least gets some recognition. Summer, Highland Falls is also stunningly brilliant but I've only heard one person ever say it loud and never heard it beyond Turnstiles (wow, if you replace the original recorded version of Miami 2017 with the live version from Songs in the Attic, Turnstiles is another _absolute_ stormer of an album). I _would_ also give And So it Goes a mention but Billy Joel himself quite famously considers it his most underrated song, so I imagine it's developed a decent following among fans.
I heard this song at my grandma's funeral in 2013
The Stranger-Billy Joel...................,
A MASTERPIECE OF VINYL FROM
1977!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this song. What a gentle way to end an album...
I think the reprise of The Stranger at the end of this track is my favorite Billy Joel song!
Gets me every time as well - I try to ignore the fact that some boneheaded producer moved Anthony's Song to opening slot with the title track second. It's a _tiny_ criticism of what is probably the top contender for the greatest album I've ever heard (when Get it Right the First Time is the least great track by a stretch, for me, it's going to be hard to topple) but... just... what a baffling decision. It makes it sound either like a stone-cold classic like Anthony's Song was cut from another album (which seems unlikely for any number of reasons) or like someone felt this album needed _beefed up_ at the 11th hour (which it really, really didn't).
I think the order's right on the 8-track so that's something. Maybe it was a genuine mistake on the original vinyl.
my favorite album ever...thank you kevin o'shaunessy.
love this tune! when i was in high school, i REALLY wanted to get the solo singing this in my high school chorus, and it went to someone else who was struggling with some personal problems: it left me so pissed! fast forward some 25+ years, and i got to sing it with a student band at the university where i teach (in japan). AT LAST! shades of gregory russo's comments. thanks for posting this!
Words of Wisdom, Lyrics of Thoughts, A Prayer in our Hearts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought this album when I was 14 still love it. Billy Joel is a storyteller. To me this is best work.
I love this. So beautiful. None of it matters without love.
Three songs I really like by Billy Joel that he never seems to talk about or perform are this, Why Judy Why, and Tomorrow Is Today.
最後にストレンジャーの口笛が流れるのが、メチャ最高過ぎます❗❗
lovely song
This is soulful from Joel.
💘 it!
One of my favorites. It lifts your spirits after a long day. Everybody has a dream.... a not hit wonder...he has many.
Aku kesini karena anneth ✌
What an amazing album all along
I just bought this on vinyl, and the return of The Stranger brought me the most delighted surprise as it’s one of my most favorite tunes!
I had to check to see if it only happened on vinyl… such an excellent surprise (after maybe 20+ years of loving that song)
One of my favorite "go too" songs for just about anything important to me.

As winsome and wise as when I first heard it when it came out. Thank you Billy Joel. And for being a good friend to Andrew.
In every chest there lies a heart's desire.
Still listening and loving every note over 40 years later: Thankful to have this wonderful man/artist's music in my life.
The little piece at the end of this compilation is the reprise from "The Stranger" and not part of "Everybody Has a Dream." I thought it had been left off when I didn't see it listed in the song list.
Thanks for clearing that up! I was confused at first
Vienna is the best Joel's song ever!!!!
i'm in love with song
Kesini Gara" anneth
Stupendo L.P.....👍💯✨✨✨✨
A perfect song to end this classic album. If I remember correctly, Phoebe Snow sang background vocals on this song.
Yang kesini gara2 Anneth mana suaranyaaa

Had this on 8track and Scenes from Italian Restaurant switched programs in the middle of the song. It faded out, you heard a big clunk, and then it faded back in lol
The Stranger album has a distinct piano sound. Recorded in a studio once owned by the producer Phil Ramone. Both are sadly no longer with us.
I wont ever forget this song EVER, and it won't ever not make me cry. Sleep tight darling, I miss you dearly.
The mans a genius
Semuaaa seseorang di dunia ini pasti punyaaaa mimpiii sukses selaluuuu semangat buat gapai mimpi kaliannn jangan lupaaaa berdoaaaaa dan berusahaaaaaa 😇🤗
Amazing outro too!
Masterpiece! This song really help me to dare the world and chase my dream
I'll never forget the first time I heard this in the 80's in Rockford, Illinois.
Best song on a album
Tutte stupende le canzoni in questo LP ... Talento
I sung this song with my 6th grade class at graduation
I love the ending of this song
♥ Loved the album.
I've never heard The Stranger theme at the end of the song like this. Normally im used to just hearing the main "Everybody has a Dream" song, but the added ending is interesting
It does actually appear on The Stranger album like that originally where this song is the last track before The Stranger piano and Billy's whistling comes back until fading out at the end, but maybe some uploads cut that part out.

Love this song💗

I think I've bought about five copies of this album in your life, mostly because I wore out at least two cassettes.
