"i write whats in my heart, don't give a fuck who's fucking wit it"- Cole. Bottom line, what makes you corny, rapper or not, is seeking validation from the world. Know yourself and own it.
@SOUL SEEKER cole has also been called corny not by you and me but people but what gives him the cred is he does not give a fuck. Same for eminem he got cred by not giving a fuck
Nah fam Cole got sauce lmao. All these rappers listed def corny asf. Plenty of lyrical rappers than aint corner for me to be tolerating anyone on this list
@@ashutoshraina9957 well to be completely fair, j. Cole only is corny every once in a while. What gets you less or more cred is how often you're corny.
Being trapped in the “corny” box is probably the worst fate for a rapper. It’s impossible to escape. If you have low numbers or music people think is weird, you can just make an album that appeals to more people. Once you’re called corny, anything you do will just be a product of corniness.
Yeah only way out is if you make a really good comeback like how Tyler did with Flower Boy after ppl got tired of his old antics. Even then that can still backfire if you release mid albums after like how Logic did after following up No Pressure with trash like BT3.
I've cringed at certain lyrics from NAV's songs but never to the point to proclaim him as corny. It's just crazy that it came from him but he wasn't wrong lmfao.
Crazy thing is you never heard anyone call the rappers spreading negativity and spreading a fake lifestyle corny. These guys are showing you exactly who they are whether you like them or not and they get labeled corny for it. The game is backwards
They're not spreading negativity, they are just making music people like to listen to. Nowadays, we care more about the music and flow rather than the bars. There is still a place for bars, but its not as important. We just want to enjoy good music
That's life in general, not just the game but this generation in particular glamorizes toxicity to the point where almost anybody who bucks that trend strongly enough is labeled negatively and looked down upon. It truly is twisted.
You know what, Dax is right for what he said. He's clearly got the muscles, he's got the money for guns if he wanted to be like that, he's just wise. And he's absolutely right the people telling you to be tough will be the ones saying RIP. If you're just on the internet it may seem corny, but in real life, he could have been killed right there if he said the wrong thing. That's what hip hop and black culture needs. Less posturing and chest puffing and more making it home to your family.
@@jabreelaceto58 Hip hop directly feeds into black culture, and black culture is directly represented by hip hop. You could say I'm wrong to say "black culture" because what I really mean is the hood. When I say "black culture needs this" what I mean is the sons and fathers and brothers in the hood who think it's cool to prove shit to the gang or the gram. The "I think money is king and if you're getting money that's the measure of your value. If you're a killer that's cool. Talking like a fool and disrespecting dead people and loving money and shoes and my come up more than women or anything else." Idk a term to use for that in general, but it extends past hip hop and is more and more black culture in general. How many people care about zulu or African roots? How many care about Islam? Not that I support that, I'm Christian. But how much of black culture is based in anything outside hip hop values these days? The two are almost synonymous. The culture needs to progress past "anything you do is good if it's making money" and thinking get back is socially acceptable. Otherwise black culture will continue to think being on fleek having money and being violent is the meaning of life.
Hop being ecstatic about Em dropping his name always makes me smile man. I've been a fan of Hop since highschool, and seeing him celebrate what many of us wanna get to one day, it's something else.
Yea that was awesome to see as someone who downloaded haywire off of datpiff like ten years ago almost Honestly it annoys me people label Hopsin as corny he has a handful of corny songs and the rest of his songs are completely fine tbh Hopsin basically gets the Eminem treatment these days
@@gregb9264 idk what they even mean by corny cause the dictionary definition of corny so lacking in originality as to be obvious and boring. From dissing Lil' Wayne and Rick Ross to the Ill mind tracks to him rapping about losing his son in a custody battle wtf is unoriginal obvious or boring about any of that. You know what would've been corny him getting rich and making a bunch a songs about how rich he is and how he fucked all of our girlfriends. He stood up to a label pointed out the flaws of rap culture, frat culture, club culture, and stoner culture (all in one song) and killed Rick Ross's rap career. This is a real problem within rap culture... a lot of the times if you're killing people or pushing drugs everyone has your back and is entertained. But if you're a well spoken and good intentioned dude you get crapped on and called corny. It's really sad and says more about the current "culture" of rap than it does any of these dudes on this list.
@JayStarrV1 Theyre not trying to copy EM...Eminem himself knows that....did you miss the part of the video where Eminem praised Hopsin in one of his songs? You gon praise someone you think is corny? c'mon now smh
it isn't like the whole culture promotes gang violence and mindless killing/pushing drugs. There are plenty of new school rappers who talk about the hardships they endured and actively discourage that kind of lifestyle. And there are plenty of well spoken and good intentioned rappers today who are looked up at by everyone in the culture. Kendrick, cole, jay, JID, etc. u just being an oldhead smh
Is that the dude who was talking about Dax? I could tell as soon as that dude opened up he thought he was gonna get flamed if he didn't have that opinion. Seemed like haterade to cover insecurities
Imagine being so insecure that you call Logic the worst rapper to ever grab the mic. I’m not even a logic fan in general, the man has skills. Crazy statement by a guy that has always made crazy statements, seemingly just to get attention.
There’s context to it, they were listening to his guest verse in French Montana song that came out a few years back and it was on of the worst verse I’ve ever heard.
you just took it way too serious bro. they're saying hes trash, but exaggerating it cause it's funny. they're just havin fun, not writing a PSA. & logic "has skills" I *guess* lol but he didnt put them to good use at all, he can have skills and be a terrible rapper.
the problem with logic is that he cared too much about what people say about his music or himself in general. he took it too personal to the point where it depressed him.
It’s kind of hard to ignore hate when you receive it 24/7. At some point it takes a toll. Online comments are cruel because it’s just of bunch of little shits hiding behind a screen
Heavy disagree. Wanting validation for something you worked your whole life and having that validation stripped over some gate keepers. His care was exceptional as all hell.
Man but that needs to be rapped about. I cant change that shit. I care about what they say about me bro! I can't change it! We need rappers to not hide their weaknesses. I needa feel like someone out there is like me. And that they are successful .
I think what hip hop fans ultimately find corny is being told what to think or feel. When you break that 4th wall and stop telling a story and start talking directly to the audience, that's where you lose people. There's no lesson you can teach everyone. And even if you could - the vast majority doesn't want to listen to that. Even in Macklemore's case - you can text Kendrick and tell him that he got robbed, but when you turn around and tell me what you told him because you think I should care that you care... Nah.
My sentiments exactly. these guys dont really seem to mean well while being awfully unconvincing. It just seems they wanna be revered and think preachy nonsense would work.
On the flip side, I think Tory was corny for chasing down Dax in the first place. You chased a man down for doing a diss track on you and by doing so participated in the challenge YOU initiated? Like what? I couldn't vibe with Tory after that.
From what I remember, and I could be wrong, but apparently when Dax dropped it, Tory hit him up and told him to take it down because he was dealing with personal issues. Dax says no, and, we got what we saw on here🤷🏽♂️
I feel like Logic never deserved the hate he got, bro just be chilling making music, yes he’s made some bad songs and got criticisms, but a lot people just joined the bandwagon on hating on him and never gave him the time, just watch an interview, he a chill dude
The theme here that I see is that if you’re genuine you’re corny. Most of these dudes labeled corny just like doing themselves and making the music they wanna make, and when they try to be inspirational they get flames for it, all because they’re not straight industry. Shit is sad. Like Logic for example, dude went from rapping just straight bars for mixtapes to making a cool, creative album storyline, and people start calling him corny for that and other things such as him liking rubix cubes and just genuinely being a fun guy.
I like Logic and all but people only started calling him corny after his 2017 album released. Almost every song was centered around the fact that he's biracial, mixed in with all of the "preachy" messages and subtle decline in lyricism. That was when the Logic memes began. According to some fans, his writing got more lazy over the years and pales in comparison to his older music, especially with constant cringy bars like "did you know I'm mixed like Obama" and others💀 Some people also didn't appreciate how he was flexing the money he made off of his 1-800 song for obvious reasons. I don't necessarily agree with those people but I can see where they are coming from
no most dudes here are just preachy people dont like being preached too especially young people you know the people that decide whats cool and whats not
The fact they gave the Grammy to Macklemore over Yeezus, GKMC, NWTS, and MCHG in 2014 is absolutely criminal. Thats when award shows started losing credibility
Being corny really doesn't make you a bad artist. For hip hop standard, it is bad. But there are people out there who does enjoy corny stuff, they attract a different audience rather than just hip hop audience. And i really respect the people who are willing to stick with that vision despite being universally disliked by the hip hop community and still managing to live their lives to the fullest. I like all sorts of hip hop songs, and being corny is part of the charm within some of my favorite names. It's really fascinating to look beyond a "badly" written lyrics and unravel what they truly mean by it.
Fr bro, hoisin definitely corny but his songs can be very powerful, I’ll listen to gang banging music then put him on talm bout drug addiction. People needs to realize it just music
@@prestonhouston4079 I started to agree but that last part I couldn’t…. It’s not just music bro, music can have a huge impact on people’s lives by making them wanna do things they prolly wouldn’t do, it’s not just lyrics that can be negative it’s the frequency the song is giving off as well that can change the way you think drastically even if you listen to J Cole or Kendrick Lamar they may speak some elevated shit but the frequency isn’t good it’s a lot that comes with listening to music not just hearing words an a few high hats you gotta feel it too. It’ll change you for the good or for the bad

We see a physical world, but the real world is spiritual. That’s It’s important that we’re careful what we watch and listen to because it affects our souls.
Being coined the term corny is like a death sentence in hip-hop. Super hard to come back from it. I can’t think of any rappers off the top of my head who have come back from it. Can anyone else? As a very small underground rapper, I never wanna come off as fake or disingenuous or corny for the things I say in my songs. I try not to overthink it but also keep in mind that some things will rub people the wrong way. For the most part, I would say most rappers who have been called corny, are good intentioned people who just aren’t the most hip. That’s just my take on it tho
Drake has always been labelled as corny yet he's been arguably the biggest hip hop artist of the past decade. It's not just about being referred to as corny it's about how you handle it and move from it. Jack Harlow's going down a similar path but what him and Drake do is embrace the fact that they're known as corny and don't mind being the butt of the joke which just makes the general public gravitate towards them.
People who truly are just themselves also don't care if they're perceived as a walking stereotype. The illusion we have that we're unique is what drives the desire to stand out in the first place.
Some people just aren’t inherently cool or that intriguing & That’s ok. The people who are like them will connect to what they make if its genuine. That’s the bottom line and what they should focus on to feed their families .
Not being 'inherently cool" and being corny are 2 completely different things. Every rapper on this list except Cordae [imo] tries too hard to be "cool" and "edgy". Logic biting MF DOOM and dropping a "secret" album under an alias as Doctor Destruction mask and all... the week it was announced DOOM passed away is away is a prime example of what I'm talking about.
I always thought Tory took the L in that Dax situation cuz he literally put out a challenge that he could take on any rapper and then when Dax did Tory got butthurt and ran up on the dude.
Yeah exactly I don’t care for Dax but surely it’s corny to put out a diss challenge then get heated when someone takes you up on it. Extremely whack behaviour
Lmaoooo. I was like "Where the hell is the well intentioned-ness with him?" he literally got songs about people hating him for being corny so he's well aware he's corny and encourages it. 😂
Dax is super creative and has a good work ethic and skill, enough to where I enjoy seeing what he's up to from time to time but generally I am not drawn enough to want to consistently dive more into his work and hear more. It sucks that many rappers get seen as corny or left out of general praise of rap because their style is different, unusual, or the fact that they are just good earnest people who stick to themselves and don't allign with negativity. I'm just glad that many of these artists do have their fan base that cares for them and allows them to eat
I think the big thing about Macklemore’s situation goes deeper. He was going to be hated no matter what when he beat Kendrick. And he definitely felt pressured knowing he was going to get that hate, so he made the dumb call to post the text. It’s unfortunate because he has some really incredible songs
Putting Tom McDonald in the same picture with Logic is just the absolute next level of disrespect. Also, how exactly is whiteboy over here “well intentioned”? Tf?
I really will never understand the hate logic gets ever. I felt his soul die with each album as he tried his best to show the world his art. Stepping out the limelight was a good move for him. What you love should kill you but not like this... Not like this.
You can call Hop corny all you like, because of a few songs when he was young, but dude can rap with anybody in the game currently. Dude's a monster lyrically.
It's interesting how Dax, Logic, Cordae, and Hopsin all cite Eminem as their favorite rapper, and how Eminem is considered "corny" by the Gen Z crowd. It just doesn't matter to me. 50 Cent was considered "corny" when he came out, and Tech N9ne fights that label every day. Royce da 5'9 and a huge swath of D12 are seen in much the same way. The irony? All of those people (yet again) cite Eminem as their favorite or were put on by him, and I do not think that is a coincidence. I believe that when rappers actually rap, and rap well; the goalposts are moved. Proof? Drake. Drake can pound his chest and show off overexaggerated male bravado in his music and videos even though he once played a wheelchair-bound nerd in a Canadian kid's tv show. And guess what? no one bats an eye. Don't get me wrong, I like Drake, but the hypocrisy is earth-shattering. Regardless, These "corny" rappers can rap their asses off and their technical ability is off the charts. Chino XL, RA The Rugged Man, and even Immortal Technique have all fought that label. It's a stupid blanket term meant to gatekeep what many consider "intellectual rap". But in the effort to shun actual _writing_ ability and "thought rap", it only makes those who _don't_ fall under the category more susceptible to scrutiny. Last point: remember, everything is cyclical. backpack rap along with "emo" rap was heavily discouraged until it wasn't. Now? it's "cool" to rap about being sad and depressed. Jedi Mind Tricks and Immortal Technique were chastised for chasing more politically-themed content, and now? it's fine. Just listen to what you want to listen to, and before you know it, it'll be "cool" again.
Well said. I agree as when rapping as a teen I had more thought provoking religious and political themes in my raps and felt most couldn't comprehend. I was above "street" rapping and knew one day my rap style would be cool
I think “corny” is such a point of view. How is show casing drugs, pulling dumb internet gimmicks for attention, embracing the street life, and blowing your only advance money on materialistic things and going broke not considered corny but artists who are just being themselves, making smart decisions, giving you there self expression and building a long sustainable life & career considered corny. Most of y’all got it backwards.
This lyric sums it up perfectly: “But you need to get off the internet. You need to get you a life. Why you waste time just to comment on shit Especially shit you don’t like Don’t like it, Don’t listen But don’t tell me ‘bout your fav. rapper rippin’ some shit he didn’t write”
I actually really respect dax alot he's skilled and I've seen him live and drank with him for the night was an awesome night he's just a good genuine guy
Dax is a grown ass, mature man for what he said in his part during the interview where he was confronted or people tried to fight him. He has risen above that life and "code" in which the answer or solution to minor problems such as a diss or talking shit - sometimes just for entertainment...like eminem said, sometimes he just uses the name or org name that happened to rhyme lmao. Dude has the adult, fatherly, holy mentality that he's not about to fight and get smashed up, kidnapped, disabled, arrested, or end up dead over some stuff he said. If someone hears someone talk about them and it gets to them so badly that they feel the need to resort to violence as the only way to settle that....that is a MENTALLY WEAK af individual. But gang culture has taught us that's how we handle business. You say some words, I have you killed or at least roughed up. That comes from the mentally weak who don't have the security in their own person and own character to say "Wtf he talking about, that aint me at all so I don't give af what he says - so I'm gonna brush that shit off like it's nothing, bc it's not, and keep it moving". I'm not going to end up with a 20 year sentence because I got insulted one time. Gang culture is a mother fu**ing joke. All of their "rules" and "traditions" just end up getting people they say they run with incarcerated or killed. Who thinks that's smart?! Who?? And how?? The clout? Fuck the clout. Charleston White is probably making the best effort but somehow it needs to be ingrained in these younger generations that the old ways of gang violence, stealing, retaliation, and all that other stuff that gives you street cred is really just for fools. That the gang culture these people so proud of is actually just a big brainwashing campaign by the people at the top, BLACK WHITE HISPANIC JEWISH it doesn't matter - whoever at the top...it's just a brainwashing tool to keep them perpetuating that circle of taking their perfectly good opportunity at life and deciding to make the worst of it or throw it away. Someone needs to get to these people. And these rappers should start getting cut by their record labels for rapping about that life. They can say it in their free time off the record if they want, and to as many people as they want, because I'm all for freedom of speech. But these record labels and these radios should stop giving the rappers this huge platform to glorify street life. Street life, just like drug addict life, leads to one of three places....Jail, Dead, or Broke so bad you wish you were.
Dawg, as long as you got your core fan base and are living off your dream that's all that matters. The world tries to make this shit seem like there is certain standards and boundaries in music. And if anything every corny rapper on this list has stuck to the culture more than most the people criticizing them. Like there is people that like that kind of music. They wouldn't have gotten that far if people just didn't listen to them.
This concept of “corny” artists in Rap says a ton about the culture in general. From toxic masculinity, to young people being fucking stupid, to young people tending to live impulsively, rejecting authority and throwing caution to the wind, and a whole host of other issues. It’s almost like the culture rejects positivity and feeds off of negative and sinful qualities like wrath, avarice, lust, ect.
“Young people being stupid,” definitely wrong there, these kids are probably gonna be more aware than most of us at the same age. Also it’s not just impulsivity, you’d have to listen to the music to piece that together though.

You can be positive and not corny,, the difference is creativity. If you approach your definition of positivity at an original angle then people will respect it but if your sentiments have already been echoed then won't nobody care. Logic saying "spread peace love and positivity" is corny AF bc it's unoriginal. Outkast spitting "you need to get up get out and get something, don't waste all your time tryna get high" still hits to this day
It shouldn't matter what anyone raps/sings about we should accept all facets and lanes of hip hop, it just means there is something out there for everyone to enjoy it should bring us together as fans of the genre everyone is entitled to their own opinions so are the music artists people shouldn't be hated on or belittled for what they create when most the people doing so are to scared to even try it for them self and just rather complain online and let their jealousy of their own failures take hold cause they hate their own reflection cause when they fell they didn't get back up they just stayed down
I don't think Tom McDonald is well intentioned. He may have at one point, but now he banks on trolling people and appealing to the victim complex of dudes who spend too much time on the internet.

I really wish he didn’t claim to be a black man because he is so obviously not. Even if he was and had the same swag he’d still be corny. I do feel bad that he was bullied so much he had to quit music tho. I’d hate to see anyone’s dream die.
The problem I've noticed with Dax, is a lot of his shit comes off very crybaby. How about instead of complaining and pandering the the "Joker" crowds, make some tracks that slap and shows some authenticity
@@wordlifejohn1122 There's always exceptions to the "rule" In Em's case rap fans throwing him in the corny bin gets cancelled out by a lot of his peers holding his skills in high regard

People who don’t see that Dax is a absolute talent are stupid. He is rapping about his feelings, depression and sadness what we all felt somehow in our life. Yes it’s normal to cry over a girl who cheated on you. A man who is not touched by such situation are completely numb.
The Cordea take is accurate. I’ve heard multiple songs from this guy but have yet to hear one that really grabbed my attention. What’s crazy is dude can rap, but I just don’t know man…

Logic doesn't deserve the hate, and it's so sad when rappers try to bring awareness of an issue through their music and get called corny as a reward. Few rappers like Tupac, Kendrick and Em have avoided this but mainly because they would end the person calling them out's carreer.
The only two problems I have with him are one the him saying he's half black with his dad being black with no proof and two with the lazy/repetitive lyrics post The Incredible True Story

Hospin, cordae, logic, and dax aren't corny rappers; they each have a unique perspective that they bring game in which it's appalling how you would define them as corny hip-hop artists.
That's what I'm saying. They're all just different but you know how that goes. If you have your own style then your considered corny, boring, or just trash but if you have millions of followers and chains and alot of women and money then your the best artist of all time. We just live in a backwards world man anything g that's good is bad and anything that's bad is considered good. I mean look at tik tok for an example.
Notice how it is almost exclusively non street rappers that are classified as corny? I don't listen to any of the rappers in the video but i can almost guarrantee they're the type of rappers that steet niccas will never listen to... And street niccas are the demographic that most often labels anything they don't like corny. For almost every example you give in this video, i can give examples of Kodak, YoungBoy, Migos etc being corny but they'll never be called that, because they're street. I really think it is that simple. Street niccas call non steet shit corny. It really isn;t about how these rappers act - because almost all rappers are embarrassing asf lol. Non street rappers are just easy targets and no one thinks theyll do anything. BTW for those who do not remember Drake was called corny for half his career until a new generation who grew up listening to him came of age. Kanye was called corny when he was doing backpack shit. Eminem was called corny after he got off drugs. The only difference is that Drake, Kanye and Em have been so massive that the opinions of street niccas became irrelevant to their legacies. (Ps - Not to say backpack fans aren;t close minded themselves. they real quick to call someting not real rap)
Ultimately this is what is boils down to but no body either knows or wants to acknowledge it. It's unfair to those rappers and this isn't the only type of exclusion or backlash they face from contemporaries and fans and I don't fwu any argument otherwise.

It shows a lack of understanding of the message he shares and just a general bias towards recent trends of shallow values. I’m not implying he doesn’t have what it takes to be a star (really I believe the opposite) or that his fan base isn’t growing, but I hope he gets the light he deserves and people recognize the amazing message and deliverance of his music. Also they say Dax is corny.. have they not heard his Still DRE remix??? That blew me away 🤷
Hey man, I love your content, but someone needs to flip the script on this. Just because someone is mostly positive, doesn't talk about guns, drugs, and violence doesn't mean they're corny. The I'll mind of Hopsin 5 is hands down one of the best hip hop tracks ever in terms of content, storytelling, lyrics, music video and cultural impact.
This was the comment I was looking for. These guys really have some dumb takes. Old hip hop was majorly about gang violence, killings, guns, women. Even till date that's the projectile its still taking. The funny thing is I grew up in the 90's and I enjoyed these raps but as I got older, having those kinds of music isn't good for the soul, hopsin, dax and logic have so many good songs i can listen to that talks about real life and not what these guys refer to as hip-hop aka hood violence. You'll rarely see these rappers live in the hood when they make it but keep encouraging this bad behavior in music and they're called hip-hop while the ones who rap about actual things in life are called corny. Lol
I just think there should be room in rap for everyone to be themselves. Rap is different. I don't know if I ever heard rock stars/ country stars/ pop stars be considered corny in the same way, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Man I love this channel! I was one of those people who thought Macklemore was corny back in 2013-2014ish. Although I'll admit I like Thrift Shop, I couldn't understand the immense hype around the guy, well from urban audiences anyway. He was easily ear candy for the suburban non-black kids. I think Cordae is dope. He's had a positive connotation in my mind since that song he made with Anderson Paak called RNP. It's such an old-school influenced jam, but I agree he needs more about him that makes him stand out and interesting.

Tory Lanez is so tough he shoots guns at women.
Corny artists just means they make/made comically bad music...it's not very deep or culture-specific.
“Young people being stupid,” definitely wrong there, these kids are probably gonna be more aware than most of us at the same age.
Also it’s not just impulsivity, you’d have to listen to the music to piece that together though.
