in my opinion these are the best video's on youtube..very good at explaining things about camping... also very polite...thankyou sir keep them coming and i keep watching...atb derek
Hi !! Bought two of those !! Got the camo and green, love them, I have serious back problems and for some reason, sleeping in the night cat as a hammock, I wake up feeling great !!! Love it . Great review, best one so far !!! Thanks !!!
Nice setup Jeremy! I modified my Warbonnet XLC hammock system years ago so that I can use it on the ground, thereby giving me more shelter options. I sewed 550-cord loops on the bottom corners and center points for pegs and 550-cord to the top corners to keep the mesh top raised, and of course I already use a tarp.
I seem to recall seeing another owner bringing the poles in a smidge to raise the height a bit, I'm also going to run a line between those two hooks and use that for lanterns etc, tuck the mesh door into it and so forth. I think that with some deft tarpage this is a year round bit of kit.
I bought 1 of these other year, since then made a larger version of this with a underquilt protector Made a newer version this year with a single pole and larger bug new 1.4kg total weight Do love this concept
Underrated Video! Thank you for the explanations and showing the details- this was exactly what I was looking for to decide if I‘d buy it. Although I‘m not a native speaker I was able to follow everything you said so thank you for that very clear & helpful video.
I actually have a pocket/pouch full of stuffies, mesh bags, ziplock bags etc because well, bags don't occur often on the wilds and are awful handy to have, a couple even double as filter bags in a pinch.
Just bought one for my son, has great reviews. This video is the icing on the cake! Great video, awesome description, lots of details. Well done and thank you!
Reminds me a bit of my old Lawson Blue Ridge hammock, but maybe a bit more refined and potentially a bit cheaper. The Blue Ridge is different by design but both are designed to be used the same way, as a bivy tent or hammock. Interesting concept for sure.
Hell yeah, I bought this a month ago and I don't get to test it for another week, good to know it works well! I wasn't sure because of the price point and lack of reviews but it seems like it's exactly what I wanted. Great review as always!
Maaaan this thing is brilliant 👏 I've been perfecting my light weight set-up but was torn between the snugpak ionisphere and a hammock. I'll bring a rain poncho that I'll use as a ground tarp and a poncho under quilt
For anyone out there that wants to do some solo hunting and camping and your living out of a hiking backpack and weight is a huge issue this set up is for you , i love mine and its very lite , between my -5 degree sleeping bag and this hammock tent im around the 5kg mark and takes up around 30% of the room in my kuiu 5500 pro backpackwith sleeping bag included to give you some idea
Not sure if you said this or , if you did I missed it. When ground sleeping in a hammock it's best to use a ground cloth , especially if there is any moisture in the ground. As far as the hammock , sure looks a lot like a Lawson Blue Ridge hammock without the spreader bars at each end. The spreader bars keep it ( Blue Ridge ) from becoming a gathered end hammock like this one. Over 60 years hammock camping and the only hammock that dumped me onto the ground was the Lawson Blue Ridge when I went to sit on it like I do with my other hammocks. My fault , not the hammocks.
Great information and you are correct a separate ground sheet is always needed but in a pinch using it on the ground as a tent with sleeping pad will be good for 1 night
Shug did a u-tube video of how to set up your hammock and tarp as a tent shelter. He used treking poles which would eliminate carrying extra poles, and he used the padding from his backpack, and his sit pad for a ground mat.
I have a different brand name from Amazon, but looks identical and same specs except color. I'm 6'2" and didn't feel like it was a flat lay for me. Perhaps I'm taller than Jeremy. I used it with a HG under quilt and stayed toasty with a 34 and 29 degree nights. I felt the inside was spacious in hammock mode, plenty of room inside. This was my first experience ever in a hammock sleeping outside. First night lots of leg cramps. Second night pretty good sleep but was tired from more miles of backpacking. Tried a different hammock, not sure hammocks are for me, side sleeping doesn't really work.
Really good video - helped me a lot, thanks (liked & subbed) Also, I like that you can use this hammock as a standard tent on the ground if there were no trees available making it even more versatile and a great feature.
I bought one like this a few months ago, wish I saw this video first, would've made the decision easier! Having tried all the setups you talk about, I agree with everything you said. I think its better as a hammock, but both are comfortable. I'd love to see you do a video on underquilts/pads/tarp setups. Onewind had a budget underquilt that adjusted to fit it perfectly
Imho that didn't look like a flat lay. I hammock camp alot with a closed-end hammock and to me it conformed to your body pretty much the same way as a standard closed-end would do. I do enjoy the reviews. Thank you
Thanks so much for this informative and detailed review. Trying to find the video you mentioned where you use a larger rain fly but can't... Little help?
I'd say this is heavily "inspired" by the Blue Ridge Lawson Hammock (Canada, btw), just lighter and maybe even improved here and there, but definitely much lighter, which is a huge plus. I owned the Lawson Hammock and sold it because I wasn't happy with the weight, pack size and performance regarding ventilation and as a ground bivy.
Good job on a great review. Very thorough. Are you like me & wonder why they put a BIG white (Night) cat logo on the fly? This has always perplexed me as it compromises the camouflage
I have this exact hammock, got it for my kid..the bottom is not at all waterproof. It's the exact same material as any hammock, I reached out to nightcat..they sent my son a tarp to put under it.
You could have showed us this quilt a bit closer. Don’t know what I have to take care about there at all now. Could you explain me which quilt for example we could or should take best? What you mean with adjustment options for the quilt ?
I've watched you for a while now and have never actually taken the dive into hammocks...This is something I can get behind tho! I love a good bivy, so if the hammock turns out to not be my thing, at least I still get a half decent lightweight shelter out of it. Definitely going to pick one up once the solid green color comes back in stock.
@@Lonewolfwildcamping Can't wait! I'll have to take the dive at some point. Just a side note tho. I emailed Night Cat to see if the solid green ones would ever be in stock again and they emailed me back almost immediately with a very friendly response saying they could contact me when the next stock would be ready. Very surprising level of customer service for a relatively small and "budget" oriented company.
When in tent mode I placed the straps 27 inches up the tree trunk and I tied a cord 42 inches up the tree trunk and under the copper rods to give me more head room. I placed my air mat outside, under the tent and a tarp under the air mat. Works for me. I wonder if I could use poles for when there are no trees?
As always Jeremy, thank you for the beautiful layout and tons of useful information! I like it but I am looking for a good hammock system for your lonewolf hammock hot tent. Any suggestions?
I bought an identical one on amazon, the tarp tie points failed bad stitching... Also when set up you will find you hang lower than the tarp. Sideways rain will get you. But the hammock is solid. I discarded the tarp and use my bigger tarp.
My first night in mine was in the tent configuration, in the low 30 degrees F, and I had it completely zipped up to see how bad the condensation would get.. The condensation was as I expected, wet enough that bumping the shelter caused a slight rain inside. Lol The next time I left the rain fly door open and there was very little condensation. Next night was in hammock set-up and there was no condensation. I love mine so far! Still waiting to test it in the rain.
Got one of those for what I thought was a good deal, but kit was missing poles, trying to find spares but not sure about size, anyone knows the length of tent poles required ? Or maby possibly source to get spares
That's just a regular fly from around here... a tick wouldn't stay in that spot, it would crawl up his arm until it either got to the armpit area or up to his head
"One person only." Me: "well that depends on how comfortable you wanna get with the other person." I'm sure if you're married, you could get your wife ontop of you, it would just be a bit cramped.
