I am watching watching this a year later too...I fermented cherry tomatoes last year with basil...they were different and just OK...but I ate them for the fermentation benefit...I make fermented salsa all the time..love it and am addicted to it...
Finally a great video for canning green tomatoes without all the babble from other video's I've watch! Straight to the point! Thank you so much! I will be subscribing to your channel!
This would make a great recipe for the different cherry tomatoes we have here in California. I have some that are golden and just like sugar and others that are prolific but kind of bland. The skewer is a great idea!!!
I had a Russian lady give me canned cherry tomatos. They were so good. I'm trying so hard to find her recipe? I know there were pepper corns and mustard seeds. I like dill. I going to fallow you here and add a couple more ingredients. Thank you
Just came back to rewatch to make it. Finally have enough cherry tomatoes to try. More often than not they get eaten before we even leave the garden hahah thanks for the great recipe 😊
Caprese salad in a jar! Love it-here in southern Missouri my tomatoes are really coming on ( got a late start) but love the varieties you grew! I have about 5 or so different cherry tomatoes out there so gonna try! Oh, made your big pot cherry tomato salsa and it turned out great!!!-Kristy
I'm in South East Queensland Australia and we can't grow tomatoes in Summer, its to hot and way to many fruit flies get to them,we have mild Winters so grow Tomatoes then, this is a deal breaker for us, we can have our tomatoes in Summer on salads yes, thank you Rachael
@@1870s Hi! I can't find an update anywhere on your channel :'( If there isn't one, could you please let us know here in the comments? Thanks in advance!

@@lucyo4124 thats dissapointing considering they look so nice on the shelf, I might still try it one day and figure out a recipe for them just to make the aesthetic work out 😂
@@1870soh that's too bad. I do preserve them in oil and other seasonings but they need to be refrigerated and they only last a few months. They are delicious but don't last long. Hopefully we can find a canning recipe for these beautiful tomatoes that will be delicious and last a long time....I'll keep looking 😁. Have a great day😁
They are very "punchy" meaning when you bite into one the squirt in the back of your throat about knocks me off my chair Everytime. It's been nice having them I only have 1 jar left do the didn't go to waste but I don't think I'd do them again. Definitely use under ripe tomatoes they held up way better
That 1870's Homestead thank you for your input. I just recently found your channel and enjoy watching your gardening/canning. I also see your a fellow Michigander...I was born and raised in MI. Now in the south. 🌻😄
I am under the impression that if you are pickling the tomatoes, you don't need to go through the hot water process. Doesn't the vinegar keep them fresh and preserved for months without having to do the water bath? Please advise. Thank you!
The short answer is if you want to keep them on a shelf in the pantry use a canner/hot water bath. But if everything is super sanitary and you are going to store them in a fridge for a few months you should be able to skip that.
I'm watching this video about a year later. Curious to know how these turned out over your winter? 😁 We have TONS of cherry tomatoes! Would love to try this if you felt like it was worth it!
I ate some but honestly did not enjoy, the punch of vinegar was way to strong for my liking. I've shared my thoughts in several pantry tour videos that this is one thing I'll never can again 🤣

I make a green cherry tomato pickle with garlic and dill and simple brine you would use for dills, yum!

Trying this today 😊
I found the recipe in the 2014 Ball book. I’m going to try this!
Hi Cindy , would you mind sharing the recipe please ? Thankyou
So tasty I’m sure, sadly for us we don’t have enough left to pickle, but if God is willing, I will plant enough to pickle. Have a great day!

They are pretty
Definitely gonna try I am also doing beets.
Just the video I was looking for. Thank you.
Wondering why, if you’re poking a hole through them anyways, the split tomatoes are not used in pickling.
Im going to try making this recipe this year, but I want to add in a red hot chili and see how that adds to the heat and taste! Thanks for sharing :)
Oh yummm, never heard of doing cherry tomatoes this way!! Catherine from Canada 🇨🇦
I hope they are as yummy as they are pretty
They do look beautiful, a great taste of late summer in the cold days of winter💞💞

I forgot to use some pickle crisp in them, if you make them add 1/4 tsp to each jar before canning.
Hi Great Video Vlog on Picked Cherry Tomatoes. They Look Good ☺
Thank you you, almost too pretty to eat
Which Ball book is this recipe from? Would love to try it this summer!
Hi Rachel 👋 I missed this one.
Awesome, how much water did you start out with?
really want to know how these turn out! Be sure and let us know. Thanks!
Makes my mouth water!!
Hmm that’s a good idea. Hope they taste as good as they look!
Me too
How did these turn out?? They look beautiful🤗
They look good. But we didn't really enjoy them much. Tried on salads. Probably won't make again.

will they go in the pantry ? Or the fridge ?
Have you done a taste test of the pickled cherry tomatoes?♥️ They look lovely
Wonder if using balsamic vinegar instead of apple would go well with the basil and garlic?
Yum
I have a gallon freezer bag full of cherry tomatoes in my freezer. Not sure what to do with them now. Suggestions?

How much vinegar to how much water please. I don’t have the ball book I have Bernardin book. Please share amounts and items. Thanks.
Have you tried doing a water, balsamic vinegar, and citric acid mix?

"I'm not going to put it in there *chomp* I'm gonna put them in there" made me snort laugh, thx
Lol I laughed to at that part
This looks so good. I wish you would give the recipe so we could try it.
She does in the beginning.she explains which video to go to and what changes she's making.
Could I use picking spice to season with ?
Sure
I cant find this recipe in my ball book. Must be a different one.
How’d you use? Did you enjoy?
Can you tell us for the us newbies how much salt vinegar etc??? New ppl need exact measurements 😆
For every 1 quart of water add 2 cups vinegar

Can I use pickling vinegar
Yes
Could you tell me what book and page this recipe is in? I can not find it in my ball book.
In my Ball book it is called Pickled Grape Toatoes, in the pickled food section
my Blue Ball book from 2009...page 57 "Pickled Grape Tomatoes" FYI
Can someone please share the recipe or a link to find the Ball recipe. TIA .
My oldest canning book is 1997 it was not listed and I don't see it online.
Thanks. Someone shared the link. I have cherry tomatoes, purple Smurf and yellow bell tomatoes I plan to use to make thsi with garlic and basil.
How did they turn out?
We discussed them in this recent video: ruclips.net/video/tvcQWzv30RU/видео.html
amounts of vinegar and ingredients would be helpful
How long would these last in an outside cellar with below zero temperatures.......also, is the water bath super necessary
Not sure you'd want the jars to freeze. Water expands, and they would probably break.
☺️👍
Just to check: No water in the brine?
Update please! Did you like them?
Not so much really. We mostly decided we're not going to make them again
@@1870s Dang! Well, we’ve got some marinating in garlic and olive oil in our refrigerator, we’ll stick with those I guess.
Thanks!

gee - it didn't say how much of each vinegar or the actual recipe !
I am making this today. We have a dong load of tomatoes.

how long do u keep them in the water

You camera's a wee bit out of focus.
So basically you are making up your recipe as you go depending on what you have on hand.
Not really, I replaced the exact we quantity of 2 ingredients for like products ( basil for rosemary and ACV for white whine vinegar).
I will bet it will delicious.
