Wise words from Gandalf the white
I'm sorry you are feeling so low these days Rachel. It brought tears to my eyes seeing how sad you are. The highlight of your videos are not the fish, but your million dollar smile and brilliant personality. Take care of yourself. You're loved more than you know. Chanting for your ultimate happiness from me here in southeastern Turkey, to you there in PA.
Bless you Rachel. I too am struggling with keeping up my aquariums, way behind with housework and even taking care of myself. Hugs and be good to yourself. This difficult time will pass. 😘
Maggie walk with nature find a hiking trail a big park or a beach try geo gashing ,just get out and Mother Nature will find you and heal your mind.
Wish you and anyone having difficulty during these challenging times the very best. You have helped make this hobby better for all your subscribers, please know we are with you!
You're a mighty woman Rachel, I hope everything works out!
This pandemic has been wearing on me too. But something good did come out of it, I found your channel. 😊 I have started a carnivorous big garden in my back yard, and I am in the process of setting up the first fish tank I have had in four years. I was going through breast cancer treatment and I just lost all energy to be able to take care of them. But time passed and I felt ready again. Some kind to yourself and do what you need to do to take care of yourself. Thanks for all of the energy that you have put into teaching and sharing with other people, and I hope you can find yourself again soon. ❤️
Take your time and take care of yourself. Aquariums don't need to be tidy for the fish to be happy. We all need to take a break at times and circumstances are far from easy at the moment. Your channel is great and we support whatever you need to do
You are amazing and thank you for keeping your personal life safe, but giving us some type of update! You take the time you need and take care of you. You are worth it. 💚💚💚
This makes me feel just the slightest bit better about my own tank neglect due to my depression worsening, actually, so thank you for speaking up about it. Sending positive vibes your way ✨
Ugh yes it’s so hard to keep fish and other pets with long term depression. I feel so guilty about not giving my animals 210% effort and it becomes a cycle of feeling bad and not be able to do the things that make me feel better! Good to know I’m not alone in this even though I wouldn’t wish it on anyone 😅
Depression is my biggest obstacle in fish keeping. Good luck to you! You're not alone.
this hits close to home. really close.
Mental health has taken a big hit across the country. You're not alone. I would like to suggest a new series. Simply the fishroom or what to do when you don't have time.
Mine aswell. And also anxiety is a big obstacle. Especially when things are not going right with life and your tank. It's hard to stay sain .What I hate is when a normal person says, "don't worry so much" The thing is, it's not like a switch that you can turn on or off.
I love the bottle brush idea.. We all need to look after ourselves first.
Been battling depression for ten years got help four years ago, 2020 is my year to shine. hang on in there & put your self first. love your hair style & love the tank
Good for you!!!
Let’s get you connecting with nature by “Living the Aquascape Lifestyle!” 💪
I would love that.
The Pond Guy's bringin in the big guns!!!! :O
That is why I love Greg - he just pops up just when you need him! I have seen this over and over again - Angel sent💕 best to you Rachel
Looking forward to seeing this on your channel . I've followed your channel for years I can't wait to see a little more! You are an incredible women Rachel I look up to you in many ways! Stay strong! God Bless you!
We love you Rachel. Hearing from you, and getting to spend some time with you always inspires me and perks me up. Thank you so much!
You have a very special way of presenting our hobby... as a single father working 2 jobs, I have been where you are. You will get past this stronger than ever. Much respect, stay positive.
So sorry Rachel. Hope things get better for you soon.
Rachel, you have been my point of reference for years now on how to take care of my tanks. I admit, I'm the same. This year has turned my life upside down and sometimes things just slip.
Please don't ever feel you need to apologise or explain to us, the reality is you owe us nothing. Please look after yourself and your family first, everything else is secondary to your families health.
Sending positive vines your way, we can all pull this time together.
Glad to hear I not only one.
Totally get it.. the last 4 months have been crap, and I've had so little time to focus on things I love like my fishroom.. I can finally start seeing a light at the end of the tunnel and I've already started giving my fish a few minutes extra attention this week..
Just take your time, re focus, don’t worry it will all return when the balance is rite 👍🍺
Sending love. Life sucks sometimes.xXx.
Don't own pet.
Stress and maintenance free.
I just watch other fish experts.
Thank you for sharing Rachel , I learned so much from your videos when I really ventured into freshwater:) take you time and focus on self care
Thank you for introducing summer tubbin for my family...and the diy waterfall ..I guess I'm saying...thank you for your inspiration in my household ..we also have had bad times ...I guess its cage rage......I notice once I had stopped looking at my tanks....now I make it a point to Just see and stare into them...it has helped me to re enjoy the hobby as oppose to making it a chore...
ive been dealing with my severe depression. i haven't been keeping up with my tank maintenance in which i should do weekly. i havent cleaned my tank in 3 weeks. luckily i over filter my tank. And i havent lost any fish. i have central and south american cichlids. i wish you he best.
sending my prayers to you and your family.
You're gonna be alright, mate.
all my mojo to you as well
I feel ya! Idk about African cichlids, I’m more into the blackwater thing, but if you can grow plants in your tank it REALLY helps. Maybe hornwort as a floater or pothos can be grown out of the top of an African cichlid tank? I think my tank plants are 99% of the reason my tanks are healthy lol. Sometimes a water test is all I can manage for weeks at a time but my plants keep all the levels at 0ppm. Idk what I’d do without them!! I hope your tank stays good and things get better for you 🙂
The nights not over you can still do it today !!!
Maybe it would help to downsize the maintenance but increase the frequency of it. I switched to doing small (about 10 or even 5 percent water change while mainly removing mulm and algae each time I clean a tank) but I do this at least once or several times a week. That way it does not seem like an overwhelming chore but more like a fun way to connect with the fish.
Just wanted to say thank you for your videos. I just started getting into the fish hobby and your videos have been a true asset and inspiration. Keep it up and again Thank you
Thank you for this video on working through hard times. I hope joy returns soon to your life. Whatever direction you choose for the future, we support you. (And, incidentally, that was an excellent, quick, masterful lesson on how to clean a tank.)
Thank you so much!
i wish you the best! you managed so much the last years, you will get through this shitty times as well.
100% We are all a little broken right now. Hang in there. I was out of the hobby for 15 years but your videos brought me back in. It has kept me (mostly) sane these last six months. Thank you for that!
Sending prayers and healing energy your way. I still remember reaching out to you for advice several years ago when I set up my first little 10 gallon community tank and you warning me about MTS. At the time I thought "no way" I'm in a tiny little apartment that will never happen to me. I recently found a spot to set up a 5th tank.. It's just a little 3-1/2 gallon. but you know.. I'm just in a tiny little apartment so there's no way MTS could happen to me LOL..
Sending positive thoughts, take care
Rachel, just what you did here in this vid even though it may be a small tip/trick to help clean out the tank, is actually so helpful an important to alot of beginners and even people as myself who have been doing these things for decades, so ty. Please Rachel keep your head up! you are if not the best, you are top 3 on youtube in my imo. we need you but, I realize your own mental, physical and emotional and family health comes first. I think we are all lacking some insperation right now to "keep on truckin". btw your hair color looks banging, lov it! but please know you have a ton of people whom like an care about you. i know that seems odd to say, because it's virtual in a way...? but it is genuine from how many followers you have is proof of that. and we all know your care level of all your critters is on par. because of your standards it seems that's not the case to you prob. but beleive me, we all know how much this hobby means to you. and i'm so glad I can say, how much I have learned from watching you, that i wouldn't have otherwise, so ty ty. sorry for the long statement. we will all be here an patiently await your stance and position on your circumstances. ty Rachel.
Thank you for sharing. Makes me feel less alone that I'm not fully invested in my tanks. Bare bones feels terrible but I totally understand getting in that self preservation shell. You're an inspiration to fish keepers. The amount I've learned from your videos cannot even be stated. Be good to yourself! Thank you for everything!
No offense, but will be doing some praying for you. I went through a bad spot about four years ago. You will come through this. 💕
This makes me feel better because I know that I am not alone. Thank you for sharing. Love to you and your family.
Please know that all you've taught so many of us over the years is GREATLY appreciated. Videos you made years ago are still helping a lot of us deal with common tank issues. Without you, I don't think I'd be a competent aquarist. But when something happens my usual reaction is "Oh, I remember watching a video about this" and I deal with it. Whatever you need to take care of yourself--take it. Whatever brings you joy, grab it. We'll be here for ya!
Hi Rachel, sending you positive vibes from Perth Western Australia. I hope the extra nature trips heal your soul and beautiful energy gets you back on top of things.
Sucks to hear so many people are having a hard time adjusting to the new (hopefully temporary) normal. Hang in there, we'll be on the other side eventually!
Also bottle brush is genius btw!
that pipe clearer used in this way is inspired!!! buying one now!
MD 😆 I see your comments around & here I couldn't help but say hello ☺️
Seeing his comment got me excited lol
MD love your channel 👍👍👍
they're also great for getting pubes out of your shower drain!
Hugs and love, it has been tough for me 2, but slowly I'm working thru one tank at a time to clean it and trim plants etc. Will need to get back to ferts soon.
It’s hard to stay positive and enthusiastic with so many negative factors impacting our days. Thanks for making these awesome vids!
thank you for your videos. I hope everything gets better. Sending good wishes!
God I get the whole doing the minimum to keep things going. I finally kicked my own arse and got a few upgrades done. And gee just getting two new setups done and done good has got me more excited than I have been in months.
Sending a lot of good vibes your way. I’m going through a lot of personal turmoil that’s been exacerbated by COVID too. Hope you can find some peace through our hobby instead of stress in the coming days.
Take your time. We love you. XX
I’m so sorry for whatever is going on. You’ve had a rough go lately and I hope things turn around for you and yours very soon.
I can see it all over your face as soon as I opened the video. It broke my heart. I hope you take the time you need. Chill out and breathe. Heal yourself and whatever situation(s) are happening.
Sending you so much love and light hoping you will find peace.
We love you and we’ll be here when you can come back. ❤️🌱🐟🌸
I’ve neglected my own tank which is tiny only a 2.5 gal for my betta......not to the point it hurts him but it gets way past the point it should. I have generalized anxiety disorder and depression and I can barely get out of bed and do the absolute necessity things to keep myself alive like hygiene, eating, drinking, etc etc
Staying home would be nice change for me lol. Work is busier that ever. You gotta do you your human. We'll be here as you make it through the bs.
Our tanks are the same, haven’t been updating at all because of that. We’re so proud of you for keeping it up the best you can through hard times!! Sending good vibes always.
Side note you should see the out of control level of algae in my own scrap scape tank LOL
Hey Rachel. You take care of you. Take care of yourself. We are here for you.
Thank you for sharing this. I can relate and I just feel like something is wrong with me but this really helps. I have to believe that it will get better and the hobby will bring us the same joy that it used to.
Love you & your videos!! Keep on keepin' on 😊😇🥰
Breathe breathe breathe....thinking of you and yours with loads of love from me and mine in Wales Uk ❤️🏴❤️
Sending all my best.
Sending love hugs and prayers 🙏💗
I relate totally,,,,, but this hobby is helping me to keep strong in the middle of the storm... we will see better days.... just hold on tight .... it won't be forever.... you had being a great inspiration but it doesn't mean you are not allowed to have downs.... you are loved and appreciate it.... BIG HUG..... keep strong .... LOTS OF LOVE.......
Take on meditation Rachel and just be patient. Things will be back to more normal early next year. I think you’ll regret getting rid of so much once you get your spark back
Sending hugs from Australia
So grateful for everything you’re doing for the hobby, sending lots of love from Poland Rachel! 🤘🏻❤️
I feel exactly the same! No need to feel ashamed or guilty as these are truly difficult and unpredictable times. Hugs from Germany!
Hang in there Rach! We're all here pulling from you. Just remember, This too shall pass.
A few years ago I had brain cancer, thankfully got it all removed but was stuck in the house and found an old aquarium in the back of the garage, started with shrimp and found you and when I was in my darkest days you were my company, so I'm sending you all the best of wishes and all the luck I can from Ireland xo
I am so glad you are ok!
I definitely can relate with what u going threw my depression has gotten worst in these times but one thing i learn nature is always thier even when u lose everything .its whats keeping me alive day by day i had very hard times getting used to being around people but now i just had to learn to accept my social anxiety i been battling all my life .but my advice is absorb what nature can give we humanity have gotten so used to being busy n forgetten that conmection with nature and the spritual side of being on with nature it mught sound silly but if we listen clearly nature always gives us the best medicine for all our problrms i always preach i rather have nothing n just have nature than to have everything n forget my purpose in life even if it hard at times.its the way to really look deep inside ones inner self and wake up someday that beauty inside we forgotten which once our ancestors knew.stay bless stay strong even if its hard and thiers nothing wrong or embarrassing to lose strength sometimes mentally just got to reset one self each time even if its a million times in life.its tge only way to test ones limits and learn to break threw a few.
Rachel, I’m from Dallas TX! You inspired me to start and try breeding ember tetras in my half whisky barrel!
I have this issue right now, I never thought of a bottle brush, I know what I'll be doing today, I hope your all good, take of yourself and stay safe 👍
COVID has screwed us all. You're only human and you're definitely entitled to have bad times. We're all here to cheer for you!
I can totally relate Rachel.. I can appreciate this very much. These times are hard and I have a very sick grandchild right now and the only reason I shared that personal business was because we needed mighty prayer. This community has been amazing! I have literally turned to RUclips to find inspiration and to keep myself from isolating..some days are just impossible and then some are just harder than others. Some aren't too bad at all. One of my mottoes is ...you never know who might be out there that's watching you that you don't even realize how much you touch their lives! This community has absolutely touched mine and so have you! I just want you to know you will be in my thoughts and prayers... And this too shall pass my friend.. I think you're onto the right idea to take it easy and look to nature and the rest will work its way out! Much love and respect my friend❤️✌️🙏 love peace and blessings 🌿🐟🌱
I’m praying for you too 🙏
@@VinnysAquatics ❤️ thank you and love you Vinny! You are another amazing example of someone who cares and wants to bring positivity and encouragement to all! 🙏❤️🌿🐟🌱
With all that is going on you gotta just take it one day at a time. Nice video and 🙏🙌💯
I'm with you. Anxiety is my issue
Please take care of yourself and your girls.... most important! Love to you!
I can relate. Take care, you have a lot of supporters. Just subbed too. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. 👍🏼
Thanks for your support
@@RachelOLeary My kids and I love your videos. Junior hockey goalies and aspiring fish keepers. Take care.
This pandemic has separated me physically from my all of my tanks & 2 cats. My cats are doing alright but most of my tanks are basically dead at this point. The one caring for them currently is doing her best but out of 7 only my turtle tank & bichir tank is holding up. 3 of them are now empty, my shrimp tank is nearly extinct with only a few stragglers here & there, and my remaining planted(former) is now just housing a bristlenose and a single surviving altum. I may not even get to go back this year, I was only supposed to be gone for 2 weeks. I still don't know how I'm going to pick up the pieces, but I don't wanna quit the hobby.
I am so sorry to hear it
You have been an inspiration to me in this hobby since my family kicked into it full drive 3 years ago. Thank you for everything you do!
When you have no idea what is going on but it’s a Rachel O’Leary video so you still enjoy it >>
As long as the fish are happy and healthy that's all we need to worry about, its nice to have a pretty tank but it's not something to stress out about. Just breathe, relax, and enjoy life!
Rachel things Will get better in time they always do.
I feel the same when i depressed. It is temporary and when you depressed you lost your ambition about this hobby. It will pass and you will enjoy it again. Stay strong and find your inner peace.
I hope things get better soon for everyone. I support you. I think we all need a vacation from this year. Stay safe and healthy.
God bless you.
Just go to saltwater it will help and u will get addicted to the corals and colors!
Glad to see you out in nature. It's very therapeutic as is the reason why we bring nature into our homes with aquariums and plants. Take a break and don't worry about us. We will be here whenever you are ready :)
Awww Hang in there Rachel and know that you are not alone in this it’s a daily struggle I believe for most of us. Hang in there sending lots of love and light your way!!!🙏🏽
Look after yourself Rachel. Enjoy your trips on the river.
The good news is whatever happens in our personal lives, as aquarists we have a wonderful hobby to escape into.
Hang in there Rachel! I hope you get feeling tip top again soon. I know when i was struck with lightning in 2018 the hobby really helped me...but i focused on 2 main new tanks to scape and breed with, while the other dozen kinda just grew algae.
PS i have a stiphodon goby themed tank which I aquascaped with found scraps in the fish room, if youd like me to create a little tour.
Cheers.
Take care, sometimes things get heavy on ones shoulder. Things will get better! cheers!
You're in my thoughts, sending good vibes! Hoping for peace! 💚💚💚
You're not alone in that trust me, we've been similar.
Hope you get your groove back. Times are tough, I hope you feel better soon. Cheering for ya girl. ❤️
The pipe cleaner tip is amazing. Thanks for sharing and I hope you feel better soon ❤️
We love you girl. Keep your spirits up!
Thought you looked so troubled. We are all going through difficulties. Take care.
Stay Strong Rachel. You are an inspiration. I started Tubbing outdoors because of you & its been a great journey with our fishie friends. Take care . Cheers from Pete in Melbourne, Australia.
Thanks for the update, Rachel. I hope you find your focus and life straightens out for you soon. Thinking of you tons, and wishing you nothing but the best! 😃💙🌟🌈
Less is more...pick out few of your favorite tanks put them against one wall and enjoy them...and maybe have few others for breeding and selling...alot of hobbyists turn breeders and sellers lose their passion for the fish...you only have one life so find that love for fishkeeping again..
Hope things go better for you. Do your best and take care of yourself and family first, then fish, then videos if you happen to have time or energy ;)
Hang in there tiger ❤️❤️
Rachel, take a step back, breathe and take time for yourself, then come back to what you love doing......if you have to downsize in the meantime then do. I love your videos, and love the fish focus spots.....its your videos along with some others that got me into fish keeping. Please look after yourself, these are crazy times....love and hugs - Joanne UK.
It's great to hear you coming out and talking about the difficulties life throws at you and how you deal with them. It's extremely relatable as someone with multiple immune disorders (which tend to lead to bouts of anxiety and depression) sometimes tank maintainance is very centring and healing and sometimes really too much to deal with. Getting out in nature where possible is absolutely the best thing (in my mind) to help set things straight especially in these isolating times! All the best keep up the good work and look after yourself!!! 😊
You're not alone. I've hardly been able to cope with my plants and my tank. That's not even addressing anything else falling by the wayside.
My thoughts and feelings are for you.
You have cojones. It just takes a quick glance around social media to see that people go to great lengths to hide what you just shared with us. The more videos of yours that I watch, the more you draw me in. 🤘
Rachel, thank you for what is probably the most real and heartfelt video I’ve seen on RUclips in a very long time. In these strangest of times, we cannot forget to care for those who cannot care for themselves and suffer in silence - our fish and inverts are no exception. I always remind myself that the inhabitants of our aquariums have no way to really tell us “I’m hungry” or “I can’t breathe” or “I’m lonely.” Please don’t forget to take care of yourself, too. (HUG)
Stay strong Rachel!! 💕💕
Hang in there, Rachel! We all love you & can't thank you enough for all the help you've given us in the hobby.
I can relate Rachel. My 20 long chili rasbora/redbolt shrimp tank is covered in algae. Basic maintenance has been done, fish and shrimp are healthy and breeding but the tank isn't looking too good. Haven't posted a video in 4 months either. Motivation just isn't there at this moment. Staying home, staying safe...staying sane is the hard part. Hang in there!
