They don’t even let the thing “strike” they shove the hand right in its mouth. Like duhhh man yeah I bet it bites hard, but the reason anyone would watch is to see how fast and far it can extend its neck to bite.
thanks
I was looking for my car keys ima be late for work
@@License2Bust I think it's because alligator snapping turtles are ambush predators and only open their mouths and bite down if something were to enter its mouth, unlike a common snapping turtle that is a hunter and strikes its prey. I could be wrong though so correct me if I'm wrong.
I like how the turtle immediately shut its eyes as soon as it took a bite, because it knew (instinctively) that the prey would resist and may poke its eyes.
It’s more of a characteristic of anatomy. Imagine clenching down on something as hard as you can and your eyes squint, it’s not that your instincts are telling you that your eyes are in danger, it’s just because all the muscles in that area are clenching.
@@beefcakesjones2580 Perhaps.
@@beefcakesjones2580 in the super slow-mo it closes eyes post bite, and then clearly opens them to have a look at whats going on long before releasing.
The anatomy advantage is the beak, reducing the surface area of the extremely powerful bite to a smaller area, producing devastating results.
frog did the same thing. evolution has served those eyes well lol.
Did it actually close it's eyes or was it an extra eyelid like some animals have for protection?
The coolest part is the eyes of the turtle when it bites closes it’s eyes to prevent any damage to them, and then opens them up after to check out what happened lol
Next we want alligator bite in slow motion !

When I was 3 years old, me and my friend found a box turtle in the woods behind our houses. We decided to capture this thing, and bring it home. We managed to get it home, and were feeding it lettuce that it didn't seem to enjoy much, when my hand got too close to its mouth. That's when it bit me in the web of my hand between the thumb and forefinger, drawing blood and pain for the first time in my life that I can recall. My mother patched me up, then made us return the thing to its home. I'm 58 now, and still remember that pivotal moment between not understanding, and suddenly understanding real pain.

I saw these snapping turtles (along with Red Turtles and Painted Tortices) down in East Texas. Scary things--snapping turtles--almost prehistoric appearing. I've known fishermen who have lost fingers or even an entire thumb to these turtles. Great video of what they can do. I used to stop my vehicle and rescue turtles trying to cross highways. Pick them up and run them across the road and deposit them on the other side. Many Texans would simply try to run over them. I felt much sympathy for them and performed an "alien abduction". Arriving back at the pond, these turtles had both "missing time" and an "air flight" to tell the other reptiles about. Suffice it to say, their tales were probably not believed by the other turtles . . . chalking their experience up to "swamp gas."
Best to save them but do it without putting your fingers in the way of those jaws. If everyone ran them over they would become extinct even faster.
@@Acein3055 Snapping Turtles have their own protection. Didn't try to save them, just the turtles who had no real protection except their shells. Snapping Turtles in Louisiana are HUGE.

Right off the bat!! GREAT EDUCATION VIDEO!!!
I remember when I was a little boy, my father was driving us down a country road when he came upon a snapping turtle. So, what did he do, he stopped the car, jumped out and got the snapping turtle and put it in the back seat of the car, much to mom's consternation. He let it out about a mile later.
