Tiger was a force of nature, but before that, Daly broke the mold of the stiffs. Even those "straight-laced" presenters of the trophy didn't know what to say. Daly was "grip it and rip it" and was nuking it WAY beyond everyone for years, but he had an awesome short game too. Even when Tiger turned pro, I remember a Skins game when Daly was still plowing it 40+ yards beyond Tiger just because. Obviously, Tiger is one of the best if not the best ever, but Daly really began a cultural shift in '91 when the blue-collar guys started looking at each other and said "hey, maybe you or me could do this too."

Someone was debating whether JD should be in the hall of fame a few days ago and I have been thinking about it. My conclusion is that if I were him it wouldn't make much difference one way or another. Sure it would be a great honor, and I don't want to take anything away from that. But he won the open at the birthplace of golf. The old course. Standing in St. Andrew's and hearing your name inserted after "champion golfer of the year" is the absolute top of the mountain in golf to me.

12:00 I just get the vibe that in 91 the crowds were way cooler to be around than 2022. The way that dude timed that line was legit perfect. lol.
Then at 12:20 we see where it starts to decline into what it is today. "GET IN THE HOLE!" lolol

Golf is above all other sports, when it comes to atmosphere and feel good. The elevator muzak when the camera goes to the birds eye view over the course. The large crowd that gathers and the players themselves. The dress code and the beautiful scenery at the golf course.
No other sport comes even close.

This guy wasn't even supposed to be playing in the tournament that week. He was the NINTH ALTERNATE. Let that sink in. He only got in after Nick Price's wife went into labor the day before the championship started and that's why he got Price's caddy, Squeaky. What an incredible & improbable feat by someone who is now one of the most popular names in the game of golf today.

John Daly's golf ball would be priceless today. I wonder who owns that PGA championship ball

Daly is the definition of "This guy fucks!". The definition of not taking shit too seriously as well.

Tiger has the pure skill and Phil has the greatest creativity, but as far as the most purely talented golfer of all time I think this guy ranks right up there

Daly is the only professional golfer to play the game like a casual weekender just enjoying himself and still win on tour.

I’m not a golf fan. I’m here because of a Howard Stern interview. Daly is such an interesting character, that when the interview was done, this video popped up. I watched it.
And Holy Moses.... I am a sports fan by definition but this was one of the best things I’ve ever seen. When that fella made that pretty putt on Hole 18, with that fucking broomstick of a Putter. The announcer said Daly had a 3 stroke lead after the putt (I may not like Golf but I know the vernacular) and even he said he didn’t like Daly’s chances of winning. Boy oh boy. I think I like golf now. Golf could use two or three more Daly’s. And!!! I was shocked to learn that Daly didn’t even practice the course prior to the Tournament.
    This guy rules.

No one do the take-aways as far as Daly. He nearly touch the left leg in the backswing. Amazing.
