Golf broadcasts currently are horrifying. The networks need a total reboot. The old announcers all need to go, and young guns with a different perspective brought in.
This sort of thing would absolutely throw me off my game. I hate time pressure. But that's pretty low down on the list of thousands of reasons why I'm not a pro golfer.
After Rory won this 4th major, I remember reading some commentator saying that OK, Tiger won't break Jack's record, but Rory will. Well, it's four years later, and Rory's still stuck on 4.
I'm a huge Rory McIlroy fan, always. He's classy, intelligent, humble, and a wonderful son and friend. Everyone who knows him says he hasn't changed from the young lad he was in Northern Ireland. I wish him every success!
Imagine if the Tour put together a night-time tournament on one of those course with lights on them. Start on a Wednesday and end on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Would be pretty awesome in my opinion
Mickelson putting his chip within a foot in almost total darkness, on the 72nd hole of a major championship. Guy is the GOAT short game player And I don't blame Phil for being a little irked this hole and snapping at the camera man who almost bumped into him. He was within 2 going into this hole and the whole forcing he and Fowler to let Rory play up in a situation like this is bound to mess with your concentration. Had a made eagle or Rory Bogeys you've got a playoff now, sonof course the guy was a bit tense.
As I was watching this, two things came to mind. First, Rory is so good when he plays good, and if he wins the US Open this weekend, it will be the best thing for golf right now. Second, Phil is guy who loves the spotlight and hits great shots when it counts the most. I was thinking if that chip had gone in for Phil, it could have been his Tiger Woods chip in at Augusta moment. He’s got 6 and I’m sure he’s happy, but I bet he never forgets that chip shot.
Dorks want to go home and get to hear their own voices when they watch the replay. Stupid and annoying. It’s not about the dorks, except maybe for a “La Cheeserie” shoutout.
Cayton Askin he actually could of won more for that spell he had many of those short putts that missed then he’d get a birdie back but he didn’t hole a lot of clutch short putts still won a ton . And I’m not a fan but his protracer is beautiful. Super talented
Not sure on rules but you could see that Phil and Ricky potentially having an advantage let the darkness fall. Imagine Phil making the Chip or being on the green, as he was visibly not happy with the situation. So his approach shot may have been better. Different scenarios everywhere in this.
I remember watching this thinking this is a huge advantage to Rory which after watching it again i might have even undersold it those years ago ... he either plays in the pitch dark another two shots or he starts the next morning with a par 5 water all down the right and bunkers left off the tee and if he lays up off the tee he then has to hit a good wedge ... good on Phil for allowing it but I know I wouldn’t have blamed either Phil of rickie if they hadn’t
@@FromNadiaWithLove momentum is a massive thing in any sport. And having To wait on a tee when it's getting darker by the minute would of been so bad, But I think it should of been the case, or say its too dark and play the following morning. No doubt it disrupted the play of Phil and Rickie.
You have to give McIlroy credit for not standing on the 18th tee and saying “I’ll come back tomorrow” for the fans sake if nothing else. Watching Mickleson moaning is pretty standard. Pretty sure it would have changed his mind about his second if Rory puts his tee shot in the water.
I once played in a local tournament but due to rain they started a little late, coming to the 18th I was 2 shots off the leader and it was so dark u could barely see the flagstick, thanks to that he double bogeyd and I birdied and won outright
00:31 someone made Eagle from the bunker and someone else make Birdie after hitting it in the water....thats the most impressive thing in my knowledgeless opinion
I wish the PGA would broadcast these moments in the actual lighting, and not boost the exposure so much. I don't care if the players are less visible. It makes it so much more dramatic.
Rory shouldn't have been allowed to disrupt the flow of the game. The officials decided to help Rory win, and If I were Rick or Phil I'd be pissed off too
Agree. I’m watching this replay on golf channel now. From what the announcers were saying, it’s ultimately the player’s choice to allow them to play through. Phil looks so annoyed though, I don’t think he agreed it it. It held him and Rickie up and they were neck and neck with Rory. I’d be so distracted and thrown off by that.
I don't why letting them hit is so shocking. It's a gentleman game and no one wants to come back out on Monday to finish, which is EXACTLY what Phil would have to do (stick around just in case).
I remember when Rory had so much confidence, watching him play now its like he has lost so much faith in his game. Obviously still really good and world class but has lost that spark, that domination. So many great young players are winning majors around him and he is struggling to win a weekly tournament. Now Tiger is back and playing really well, I wonder if he feels like he is being forgotten or left behind, which puts even more pressure on him to get back to where he was when he won 4 majors. I'm not forgetting he is still placing high in tournaments, merely he has lost that No.1 player confidence and looks to be struggling to separate himself from the weekly tour player. Fingers crossed he bounces back, maybe the Ryder cup will propel him into 2019!!
Tiger isn't really the issue. He'll probably contend in a couple of majors next year and finish in the top 10, but in 2020 he'll be 44 and won't be a factor.
Having won round one on the course, the Darkness then challenged Rory to a sing-off, which he also won by surprising them with his own rendition of 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love'
Of all the swings to choose from, I'd take Rory's. It will last. Jack Nicholas once said of Tiger Woods "At some point, he will lose the ability for those towering three irons". For us amateurs and most pros, a three iron comes in somewhat low. At 20 years old, Tigers three iron would head straight out for 235 and then climb and drop down out of the sky. Jack was right, I hope Tiger catches Jack in Majors. Needs two more
Yeah, even they one the put up near the end of 18 didn’t really seem to capture just how dark it was. You could get a better sense of the darkness with Tiger’s famous ending at the 2000 NEC.
This is an example of why the LIV golf league came about, an unsportsmanlike play through because you have a 2 stroke lead over other players like Phil, that have won many more major tournaments? I would have loved to have seen that chip fall for Phil.
When he turns around to shake Rickie’s caddy’s hand the camera man gets in his way and is right up in his chest. He shoots him the tiniest death glare too which was terrifying😂
The camera man was walking to close to Phil and he got pissed. I think Phil walked on his foot or something.
