Great video! Alfa romeo giulia and stelvio 2.2 diesel use the exact same system! I've been struggeling with the tensioner so I went to trusty old friend Google, he suggested this video and it looked familiar so I clicked it, timing belt is done! Thanks!

At least I'm not the only one that could not get the crank pulley locking tool to fit . I'll be using this video as a tutorial on the Saab forum I work on . Yet again a fantastic, informative video from you Jonas Take care and keep Saabing !
Hi Jonas... I drive a Saab 9-3 petrol and I couldn't do the water pump so I'm considering buying a Saab TID. Your video has helped me so much. Thank you
The locktite on the water pump left bolt is essential as the bolt enters the water jacket of the head, incase someone may omit it as overkill! 🤦 Before putting it all back together i fill with coolant, put the crank damper pulley on and run engine to check for leaks whilst the engine is still jacked up/supported! And serp belt and mount is off. Good video!
Thank you I have a vectra with the same engine and will be doing mine tomorrow and this video has been the best easy to follow your English is great by the way thanks again
Thanks for the video Jonas! Just changed the belt and took lots of care to mark everything in the 9-3, however my lines never match. I turn the engine many times while adjusting tensioner - the cam and crank always align perfect. But the marked lines never match. Meh 🤷

Hi Jonas i have a Saab 9-3X 1.9 TTID which I bought it a few months ago,I have seen in his maintenance book that they have always put 5W30 oil in it,could you tell me the oil 5W30, it's ok for this engine or it's 0W40.It's from 2009 and I don't know if it has a particulate filter. Thanks for the answere.
Hi thank you for the video. I’ve done many cambelts on Vw engines and I always just use tipex on all the pulleys and belt. And put the same mark on the new belt and then tension everything. Is there any reason this won’t work on this engine?
New to the channel. I have a 2006 2.0t 9-3 and I tried to change the timing belt and I could never move the tensioner wrench enough to get the belt off, had to take it to a shop. Do you have any videos of doing it on that engine? I removed the passenger tire, wheel well liner, and air filter and whether I tried from up above or down below something was always in the way from moving the tensioner enough to get the belt off. I got very frustrated!
Hi you never mentioned if the HP fuel pump needs locking and needs to remain timed ? My Doblo 1.9jtd doesn't require timing , however it should be clarified in your video ?
I did this on z19dtr and all the instructions i had said nothing about timing the hp fuel pump. However im reading saab wis and it says to match up the mark on the fuel pump with the belt. I've done about 20000 miles since and never noticed a problem. Anyone know what symptoms would be if the hp fuel pump was incorrectly timed?
Watch the video again, there is a trick to put tension on it. Thread in an long M8 bolt in the hole bellow the tensioner and then use a flathead screwdriver to get it up to the hole 👌🏼🫡
@@JonasKakarikas I did exactly as in the video but seems that ia get to end of the pin and arrow not moving at all ,I tightened the screw of the pulley by hand to let it slide but nothing, also used the M8 bolt ,I never would believe that a pulley tensioning could be an issue for me , it's crazy 🤣
@bigeasy269 are you it doesn't do anything the first couple of millimeters when you push it then suddenly it starts to move alot. Loosen the screw a little bit and try again but more 😉
Hi been doing my timing belt and water pump after watching your video. I accidentally moved the fuel pump pulley (pulley on left hand side that is not locked by tool) . Have put pulley so that the mark on timing belt corresponds to mark on pulley will this be ok? Thanks for your videos if all goes ok will have saved myself £600
If the mark The belt line up on The controlpoints and you have full tension on The belt it should be ok. But you really need to take that decision your self 👍
I was just about to ask the same question 👍 What about the tightness of the tensioner? What would be the correct tension or are there marks for it (so I understood after watching the video)? Brilliant job and video once again Jonas 👌😎👍 Used to drive gasoline Saabs untill the following happened: a friend of mine had two NG9-3s with B207 engines: the timing chain of the first one broke up and he also had to replace the timing belt of the second one since it was in a really bad condition. I didn't want to have a car with the timing belt but figured out that if I'd like to drive Saabs, it's much more safer to replace the belt every 100 000 kms than to listen the sound of the timing chain and wonder whether it should be replaced 🙄 Also the fuel consumption is more decent with the diesel engine. The only bad thing is its sound, especially when it hasn't warmed up yet. I hate it 😉 Now our NG9-5 is TTiD and NG9-3CV is TiD 👌

Rotate crank 1 more full rotation and cam will lock at 3ish
