I've been in the shop once. It's super small and cramped. 20 people in it would be a fire hazard. There's a huge line outside the door and you're allowed like 10 minutes in there before they tell you to F. O.
@@GhostSenshi true. The pawn shop is essentially a gift shop for the stores merchandise lol. Cool to say you've been there , but hardly worth going out of your way.
They used to film in the actual shop but ever since Pawn Stars got famous the producers decided shoot the series in a studio settings to avoid disrupting their business.
They still film in the shop. Nothing online says otherwise. The shop got super popular after the first season. They have a way to work around customers when it comes to filming. It’s largely set up. But it’s definitely shot on site.
They don’t shoot in the shop now. Perhaps early on but not for several years. It’s a set next to the shop. The studio is very different from the actual shop. Keep in mind the lighting and sound has to be right. Too chaotic to shoot in the general population, plus would interfere with business.
I went there in like 2012 and it happened to be a day they were filming. But like 70% of the store was sectioned off for them so you could only really see from afar. It was Rick and some dude selling a red box/book thing? The whole store just felt like a gift shop more than anything, just Pawn Stars merch all over the place lol
Seasons shot during COVID you can barely see any customer even employees are not that much and weirdest thing is how these experts come in like a regular day and interact with customer like it's nothing first I believed these were real episodes but since seasons during COVID were aired it made me believe they are fake or atleast what they show on TV
My husband and I have been binge watching lately. We have a good laugh, especially when Cory, Rick and Chum go on and on like they really know the history behind an item, and it always sounds acted
I could believe Rick knows his shit about history. Man reads a lot of books. Cory, can kinda see it, although skeptical about some of what he says on the show. But Chum on the other hand, he seems like the type of person with a lot of niche useless information.
@@joshtoyfrom what I’ve heard, chum certainly does have some somewhat niche interests, like I remember sneaker collecting was one of his things, though that’s hardly all that niche nowadays anyway, more hipster or something.. but actually it seemed like he was a lot smarter than how he’s cast on the show, he’s no Cambridge scholar but he definitely is smart and a good businessman while the character he plays is clearly very much the “doofus” of the show; I suspect he was more than happy to play the part though seeing how far it got him. Too bad about the SA charges though. He’s likable but SA isn’t a good look..
It is not acted, it is prepared. The objects are real, the customers are real, but the show is planed and prepared and only certain objects make it to the show.
I was paid $120 plus a free lunch to be a part of the background on their Pawn Stars across America show. It was fun to be there and I did get to see some cool stuff.
What people need to understand is that most of these viral tiktoks, reels, shorts etc are just as fake and scripted/filtered as "reality" television. Real life isnt as catchy
I went to the Wahlburgers in Las Vegas a few years back, but couldn’t get in due to security at both doors. Even the walk up bar was being guarded but you could still clearly see inside. I was confused because there were customers in there eating. Soon found out they were filming an episode of The Wahlbugers. Donny and Jenny were there, when they entered the building the director was trying to hype up the crowd to make it seem like there was a ton of people there cheering for them. In fact most people were just standing around confused as to what was going on. Donny and Jenny started serving drinks to the “customers” who I realized were all wearing “New Kids on the Block” tshirts. Then Boys 2 Men showed up and after about 20-30 mins, they all left. When I actually saw the episode later, they made it seem like they just popped in unannounced and hung out with the customers for a long time, debuting Jenny’s new brand of Vodka. It was kinda cool to see but it did open my eyes to the “reality” of reality tv.
@@Sniperboy5551 Yeah I was gonna say the creator of this short said "Chumlee arrested and charged with 20 counts including sex assault and possession of an illegal firearm....he pleaded guilty..." kinda sloppy to the point that Chumlee could actually sue. I actually went here one day on a vacation, and it happened to be a day they were filming. I got to see Rick and Corey which was cool, but it was very obvious they don't work there, nor is it really a pawn shop. If anything it's a Pawn Stars Gift Shop with some expensive stuff you could potentially buy.
I knew someone that go on an episode of hardcore pawn with their collection. On the episode they negotiate and reach a sale, in real life he went home with his collection because he said they actually weren't interested in buying it just pretending to for the show.
Nah bro they actually buy the stuff in person when they buy it on the show, I was there when they were filming in 2004 only they were taking a break when I went in and it was more of a normal pawn shop experience for me with a few cameras around that weren't filming at that moment but yeah I sold Rick a ring great guy in real life
My wife and I went to their shop before they were on TV! This was like a year or more before saw them on TV. Boy they were very rude when we were in their store! You ask something and they just give you a snobby reply and acted like they were to good for you!
90% a pawn shops are thieves. They rob you and the owners are dirtbags! If you go into a pawnshop, whether you’re trying to buy an item or pawn an item, you will get ripped off. So do not go to a pawnshop unless you want to get ripped off!
I’ve also got hella good deals when the pawn shop owner was dumb. But that was before it was so easy to look up value on everything. Kinda like how good will charges out the ass for some objects now because someone googles them now.
I worked private security for the Gold Family from Hardcore pawn after I left the Detroit police department. That show was also staged. The drama and the fights were choreographed. However the business was open as usual to everyone during filming with no major restrictions. They just filmed around everyone. Was still pretty fun!
Wow that’s really cool I remember watching it with my mom when I was a kid. What was it like? I’m guessing the security guards that would toss people out were actors too?
That show was horribly staged but kinda like the Jerry Springer show in a pawn shop lol. Filming around normal customers is probably what made their reactions real.
@@djchristensen1 yeah was cool. Was better when fights and throwing people out just happened but a couple people complained about getting hurt, then they had to choreograph everything. The only real reaction was them seeing the product being pawned. They knew what was coming in but never saw beforehand. Was still pretty fun. I literally just got to stand around and watch. Wasn’t even security for the store, just the family. Easy $.
I actually met Chum Lee at the shop in 2018. Everyone said you will never seen any of the guys there. Me and my Dad went and were looking around for about 5 mins the place is tiny lmao I took a picture with the cardboard cut out and we turn around to walk out and Chum Lee walks in the door. I got a quick pic with him and we left 😂 worth it.
The show was somewhat based on reality in its early days but that is long gone. Once Corey and Chum started speaking like Rick when talking about an obscure item I realized they just didn't care to hide it anymore. Most people tune in these days just to see really cool artifacts and the history behind them.
The people standing around in the store are legit. I lived there and when they were about to film an episode they would ask the people in the store if they wanted to be in the background, then make them sign consent forms and kick everyone else out. The guys would only show up to film the episode and then leave.
I remember years and years ago chum lee at least worked there. It was a thing to call and if you hear “chum lee gold and silver” you’d ask if they had a game called battle roads and he’d get pissed off

I figured this out in 2010 when my family went to Vegas to visit family. We showed up here and the front is really really nice, and the rest is just a greasy Las Vegas pawn shop.
Same. I did buy a polo from the gift shop. Tried to negotiate the price, even though I bet they get that all the time. The st louis ribs next door were decent
20 felony counts? Damn he should run for president lol
The show is such a huge moneymaker, that they built a set because Chumlee is no longer legally allowed to work in a pawn shop.
@Super Nostalgia wtf🤣💀💀💀

Most pawn shop owners I've met were actually real scumbags
Yep they all are mostly.. they’re fkn pricks.. I’ve met only one here near me where the owner is actually pretty cool… he’s all about money but isn’t a prick about it..

Many of them probably take advantage of people strapped for cash and rip them off, you only get like 10-20% of the value of what you pawn. Not that I’m complaining I rarely have to pawn shit because I work.
Not like Rick is any different.
My Pastor was on the show,
He broke the news to the congregation that it was fake probably over a decade ago…

Haha I know right, this shits been known to be fake for mad long. It’s painfully obvious even just watching it that it’s staged.

I've been in the shop once. It's super small and cramped. 20 people in it would be a fire hazard.
There's a huge line outside the door and you're allowed like 10 minutes in there before they tell you to F. O.
Visited it in 2019. Thankfully, no line, no maximum time limit to browse. Still, a bit of a letdown.
All it takes is visiting the shop to know that none of those people just walk in with the item and end up being filmed.
Agreed, I’ve been there and to be honest I wasn’t as impressed and I expected to be.
@@Razor7790 I drove by it on a trip to vegas and took a few pics driving by

I thought they just called you, papas
What's amazing is the amount of people who are just now learning how television works
All sports are scripted. All of it
They used to film in the actual shop but ever since Pawn Stars got famous the producers decided shoot the series in a studio settings to avoid disrupting their business.
They still film in the shop. Nothing online says otherwise. The shop got super popular after the first season. They have a way to work around customers when it comes to filming. It’s largely set up. But it’s definitely shot on site.
I’ve heard there’s another set , but I have also been to Vegas and been told the shop is closed regularly due to filming
Ricks laugh is so infectious, it’s like a old car starting after a long time..
Nope. It's a smokers laugh/cough.
It's a humorless laugh. Might be a good idea to develop a recognition of humorlessly laughs and how and why they are used.
Like corona?
I visited the pawn shop in 2015 and my very first thought was "this place is so much smaller than in TV, they must have a studio set for the show."
Especially Chum - he’s a complete dumbass
It is not acted, it is prepared. The objects are real, the customers are real, but the show is planed and prepared and only certain objects make it to the show.
Wow I can’t believe this T.V. show is produced like a T.V. show
I was paid $120 plus a free lunch to be a part of the background on their Pawn Stars across America show. It was fun to be there and I did get to see some cool stuff.
the awn star across american shoe also is fake??? omg......
What people need to understand is that most of these viral tiktoks, reels, shorts etc are just as fake and scripted/filtered as "reality" television. Real life isnt as catchy
"Reality TV isn't actually real!"
No shit bro JAYSUS
It was kinda cool to see but it did open my eyes to the “reality” of reality tv.
lol
😂😂 that’s crazy
I visited that store in 2019. Much smaller than I expected, and everything was ridiculously overpriced.
Chum turned out to be exactly the way he looks 😂
A scumbag?
Well he wasn’t charged with SA, he just had guns and drugs.
Still a dope show and would love to get chumlee autograph
Dope dude 🎉
I knew someone that go on an episode of hardcore pawn with their collection. On the episode they negotiate and reach a sale, in real life he went home with his collection because he said they actually weren't interested in buying it just pretending to for the show.
Nah bro they actually buy the stuff in person when they buy it on the show, I was there when they were filming in 2004 only they were taking a break when I went in and it was more of a normal pawn shop experience for me with a few cameras around that weren't filming at that moment but yeah I sold Rick a ring great guy in real life
Yeah it’s basically all scripted but I don’t care about that I’m just there to see some cool stuff and learn a little bit of history behind it
Same. Can't believe some items from AD to 1600's still exist today 😂

Yeah but if the show is fake.... how do you know the items aren't fake aswell?
@@timgibson1364 you completely missed the point
My wife and I went to their shop before they were on TV! This was like a year or more before saw them on TV. Boy they were very rude when we were in their store! You ask something and they just give you a snobby reply and acted like they were to good for you!
90% a pawn shops are thieves. They rob you and the owners are dirtbags! If you go into a pawnshop, whether you’re trying to buy an item or pawn an item, you will get ripped off. So do not go to a pawnshop unless you want to get ripped off!
Well yeah, it’s dirtbags preying on dirtbags pretty much.
I’ve also got hella good deals when the pawn shop owner was dumb. But that was before it was so easy to look up value on everything. Kinda like how good will charges out the ass for some objects now because someone googles them now.

That is total BS I have gotten great jewellery for cheap and coins for way below retail
Pawn shops are crooks. They're sleazy. I don't know how the workers sleep at night.
A lot of this is old news. It's still cool you put all of the facts together in a clear & concise manner. Thank you for the excellent presentation! 👍
I always knew that it was staged, but the items were always real. Learning about the history of the items was the main reason I watched the show.
Is the lore staged?
Derp!!! Of course. Literally nobody takes most of those things to a pawn shop unless they're broke, need money for drugs, or both. 😂😂😂
How did they let chum lee have a candy store after sexual assaults 😭
He was never charged with sexual assault. Investigated, but no charges. Only gun and drug charges and got probation.
Because they thought it would be funny to hear Chum ask “Would you like some candy little girl”.
@superduperstarwars I bet Rick told the judge
"I'm taking ALL the risks here! Let Chum go!"
Your comment made me LMAO 😂
Chum was bad touching some bum!🤣🤣🤣
I worked private security for the Gold Family from Hardcore pawn after I left the Detroit police department. That show was also staged. The drama and the fights were choreographed. However the business was open as usual to everyone during filming with no major restrictions. They just filmed around everyone. Was still pretty fun!
That show was very Detroit. I thought the long haired dude would have heart attacks with how wound up he was
You could tell sometimes you'd see the battery pack on the customers waistlines for their mics.
Easy $.
Now this is real journalism
Rick being a know-it-all was the first big clue. No one knows all that, especially dates.
Whos more annoying, Rick or his son? Question for the ages, my friend.

The show was somewhat based on reality in its early days but that is long gone. Once Corey and Chum started speaking like Rick when talking about an obscure item I realized they just didn't care to hide it anymore. Most people tune in these days just to see really cool artifacts and the history behind them.
Once Chumlee started acting intelligent, you knew it was fake.
It's better than having Corey and Chum looking for Rick every time.
It was a thing to call and if you hear “chum lee gold and silver” you’d ask if they had a game called battle roads and he’d get pissed off
That must have been MANY years ago. I was there in 2016, and the pawn shop was just a tourist gift shop. There was no filming at that location!
