Back in the day all the bands were truly musicians. Look at the sound that they produced with only the basic instruments. No tekkie embellishments. Just pure, clear, meaningful songs. Absolutely timeless!
This song is so beautiful that not even the original artists can duplicate it.
great song....felix is absolutely awesome!!
If "rock stars" I will call them had to play like this, all natural........I really don't think there would be very many...........this is raw talent
I love these guys. I lived in Columbus, Ga. the very first time that I heard them and have been hooked since. I love the flow of the music and the words just sooth me. I wish we could go back to that era, life was grand.
Anita Murphy columbus ga....erybody lives on lee road
Their live voices are the same as on their records. I challenge most of today's so-called singers to sound the same live as on their recordings--which probably explains the extravagant decorations and sound effects that so many today find necessary when they put on a show.
One of the most legendary LIVE performing groups of all time!
Love the original version of this, but this one is amazing. Always very dreamy and haunting, love the late 60's.
Brings back such great memories, college in 69 warm summer and in love with a great guy oh how I wish I could go back hummmm
I just listened to some Grateful dead....and then I went outside and thank God this song popped into my head. A great short song instead of on and on blah, blah blah. They share one thing in common...they are both laid back. I pick the Rascals!
Truly what the 1960's and 70's were about -Out -pouring of God's spirit on mankind gotta love them
Groovin Indeed I saw the Rascals in 2013 at the Hard Rock in Ft. Lauderdale,Fl. They were so good great tunes great memories. Glenn Augustyn
great song we listened to in basic training in Ft Polk, La in 1967
love this record brings me back to when i was 15 years old those days can never come back so sad
I remember walking in Central Park NY ,saturday and sunday morning with my parents.
I was born in 1970but this is one of my fave groups. My mom had a few of their 45'sand they had 'Time Peace' on 8-track, which I loved listening too. Glad these guys are in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
Those were some specials days back then.
The simple things in life, and no worries,
The world was at a slower pace, and enjoyed life that way,
+robert john I think you might be fooling yourself. I think back to those days and they were great for me because I was 10 but the country was a mess. Vietnam war, college campus demonstrations, race riots and the real beginning of a drug culture. Sorry to ruin your memories, but as I said, for those of us who were too young to understand it all those truly were great days with great music!!
+robert john exactly they were much simpler days.
+d hart I'd take all of that growing up and give you this. I'm trying to grow up and just trying to establish myself, a real livelihood, but with this economy that seems only like a far fetched dream. And everything with this nation only seems to be getting worse. The media isn't even encouraging or a simple pleasing escape from reality.
+robert john Times when this song came out were simpler people were nicer to each other unlike today if you are liked because of the way you look or the way you talk you are singled out which is bad
+robert john What does a peaceful song have to do with the freaking White House??? Always hate even with a song!!! Get a Life and "SPELLCHECKER"
great song...wish we had music like this today smdh
cherub rock we do, Google Young Thug , Lil Yachty and 21 Savage... your welcome
STUPENDA: una delle più belle canzoni degli anni '60
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 76yo Aussie fan.
Can still chill to this song now. Great song.
I love real Musicians.
Something about the ambient noise in this video that gives it that extra magical quality.... Awesome...
Had one of those big old stereo units from the 60' This was the 1st song I blasted on that sucker.
I love the harmonica and the dancing girls in the background
makes me sad for the past. I want to go back
Best 60's American Group!
Being in Ft Polk, La knowing that 75% of the guys in my company were headed for Vietnam, this song carried a very strong message....back in 1967...
theoldpoot I was there, then. Alexandria :-)
Alexandria La or Virginia?
Gary Smith Louisiana! You mean there's another one? ;-)
Thank you all for your service....God bless....
Ahhhhh, a look back is good once in awhile . . .
Love love love this song 😍
This is genius music.
I saw these guys play live at the Plainview NY High School auditorium back in 1966 !!
Truly brilliant.
Wow, look how clean-cut they looked even in 1967.
Love this music soooooo damn much!!!!!!!💞💋😍
There are songs that are natural stress relievers and this song is by far the number 1 stress relief song for me.
Joe G you are so right!✌❤
I always pictured them as being like the Isley Bros - very soulful tunes.
It's a live performance. (except for the bird sounds.) No lip syncing. Long live live music!
Please bring back those good old days
who will ....
Doris Goins ❤✌
This song soothes me every time I hear it! YES!!!
The Rascals appeared on the Ed Sullivan show all threw the 6Os, this video is just one of many
This song is like a gentle Summer breeze in the 60s while watching The Rifleman
I have fallen in love with the Rascals! I really learned about them 2 years ago. I'm a new fan to their music and I love it. I wasnwasn't born then but, I appreciate gooood music. I'm a old school kind of gal. Some good shit! Ummm!
They're the best
There is so wonderful music from every time in history. I'm researching for more and more from the late 1960s to become reacquainted. There is a lot of quality in these songs.
Number 2 in Canada - we know good music when we hear it!
I loved the Young Rascals so much at the age of 13..got to see them in concert, while screaming my head off during the whole concert, like every other teeny bopper there..Little Eddie Brigatti" was the handsomest guy to walk the planet..I grew up in Hawaii, the same place the loved so much...good ol days
+Char Byrd My first concert! Wore a dress and hose!
hey Laurie, did you scream through the whole concert too? our seats were up in "nose bleed heaven, and we took pix's anyways, after they got developed,we took pix's of the stage..couldnt even see um,too small..I will never ever forget that concert,my first one..and I loved it..concert tkts btw were $6.50,but that was kinda expensive back in 1968!
@Laurie Parent Did you wear a sprinkler too? Ya know. To go with that garden hose?
The Rascals most beautiful song among many.
My Paisanos have soul. Most Italians do. Love them.
Man, that was SWEET! I thought for sure it was going to be that typical 60's/70's US television lip syncing , but they're layin' down that actual grooove. Those cats really had it goin' on. Awesome.
mrrockandroll The 60s and 70s rarely had lip syncing. That shit use to ruin careers.
There was no lip synch then
john lord
Sure there was. Check out The Boxtops video of " The Letter "
Great Group Great Songs
The Rascals were one of the tightest hard working bands in the NYC area and sounded like a black R & B group. Their records sold to Whites, Blacks and Latinos too.
Something haunting about this song. I rarely get goosebumps but this tune has that effect on me every time I hear it.
Fantastic great group typical sixties
My Very Favorite Group of the 60s

Great memories of Radio London Big L.
Fond memories of the Young Rascals singing Groovin'
One of my favorites! Awesome tune. Too cool
September song
I was fascinated by the women dancing in silohuette.
One of the greatest groups of the 1960's, the best decade ever for music and with certainly one of the great lead singers of all time.
Smilin', lovin', day by day, it's so nice. Just doin' what's groovin'...
Groovy Baby 🌻
"...life would be estacy, you & me endlessley..."
Ian Jackson Now that's the RIGHT lyrics !!!
I always thought it was my name he sang “Lesley”! Feel gutted now I know it isn’t!
phenomenal talent
The shadows of the dancers is a cool effect.
"Groovin" is a single released in 1967 by the Young Rascals that became a number-one hit and one of the group's signature songs.
Written by group members Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati and with a lead vocal from Cavaliere, it is indeed a slow, relaxed groove, based on Cavaliere's newfound interest in Afro-Cuban music. Instrumentation included a conga, a Cuban-influenced bass guitar line from ace session musician Chuck Rainey, and a harmonica part, performed first for the single version by New York session musician, Michael Weinstein, and later for the album version by Gene Cornish.
The result was fairly different from the Rascals' white soul origins, enough so that Atlantic Records head Jerry Wexler did not want to release "Groovin'". Cavaliere credits disc jockey Murray the K with intervening to encourage Atlantic to release the song. “To tell you the truth, they didn’t originally like the record because it had no drum on it,” admits Cavaliere. “We had just cut it, and he [Murray the K] came in the studio to say hello. After he heard the song, he said, ‘Man, this is a smash.’ So, when he later heard that Atlantic didn’t want to put it out, he went to see Jerry Wexler and said, ‘Are you crazy? This is a friggin’ No. 1 record.’ He was right, because it eventually became No. 1 for four straight weeks.
Lyrically, "Groovin'" is the evocation of a person in love:
Life would be ecstasy, you and me endlessly ...
Groovin' ... on a Sunday afternoon
Really couldn't get away too soon -
"Groovin" was inspired by Cavaliere's then-girlfriend, Adrienne Buccheri. He said of her, “I believe she was divinely sent for the purpose of inspiring my creativity.”
The single became an instant hit in May 1967, spending four weeks atop the Billboard pop singles chart, but not four consecutive weeks. The sequence was interrupted by Aretha Franklin's "Respect" which spent a week at No. 1 in the middle of "Groovin'"'s run. The song was RIAA-certified a gold record on June 13, 1967.
"Groovin'" dropped so quickly from the charts, that Casey Kasem remarked about it in his radio show American Top 40 five years later.
Showing it (and the group's) crossover appeal, the song also reached No. 3 on the Billboard Black Songs chart chart. "Groovin'" was the only hit the group ever had in the United Kingdom, reaching No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart.
"Groovin'" was subsequently included on the Young Rascals' late July 1967 album Groovin', but with the alternate harmonica solo.
"Groovin'" is one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll, and is also the recipient of a Grammy Hall of Fame Award.
The phrase "you and me endlessly" was often misheard as the mondegreen "you and me and Leslie". Wikipedia
It's endlessly? Haha, thanks for the insight. I always sang, "you and me and Leslie".
Felix later went on to produce artists as well, including the Bronx genius Laura Nyro, who was of Italian/Jewish heritage. They became close friends. Nyro was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2012 by Bette Midler (wonderful). Check out Nyro's 5th LP, an album of Motown/soul covers with LABELLE 'Gonna Take a Miracle' (1971). The title track will blow your mind.

Such a great song!
Nice sound this song has..
It was groovy back then
Love you forever Felix
so nice
Man is there anything sexier than these silhouettes dancing?
Wow i use to love this song...never knew they were white... Fifty years later I found this out.
Awesome!
From a long line of great Italian crooners. Now gone.
Great!😀
"You and me, endlessly."
Finally, I get the answer to the question: "Who is Lesley?" It's nobody, not "and Lesley." Although Lesley Gore's "California Nights" is something of a poor man's "Groovin'."
what happened to tributes to this group....back in the days they were next to the beatles.....this music should be played today they sang about love and peace..they wer Blue eyed soul brothers
+J. Key I totally agree,we need a "Rascal's" tribute group as well as the other great groups before them!
"We could take extasy, endlessly....groovin....."
Ruthie Kumar "life would be extasy, you and me endlessly"...groovin.
Perfection
I like “you and me and Leslie,” kind of a NYC vibe, though “you and me endlessly” makes more sense.
along with Crystal Blue Persuasion by Tommy James and the Shondells, this song is revered in the Chicano Community. Must be the congas.
+claude jackson loved "Crystal Blue Persuasion"",the kind of song you put the car radio on blast to..remembering good times back then!
+Char Byrd for sure
I always think of those two songs in the same heartbeat too!
Blue-eyed soul.
Who's still listening in 2019...???
I am and in 2021 and now in 2022

Os embalos de sabado à noite TOP HOUSE - Ilha Porchat e Xamego Discoteca Drinks - anos 60
Suits and ties? Wow, this really was another era.
wordpressobsessed the best era
In their early appearances they wore knickerbocker schoolboy outfits (when they were the Young Rascals). Miami Steve Van Zandt wore one when he inducted them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
