Gilgamesh is the good guy. He wants people to overcome their inner darkness and improve moral fiber. Shirou on the other hand knows killing is wrong but hypocritically slaughters people nonstop; for literally ever.
after watching Fate Babylonia we all knew Gil just want to play and train the modern archers because if he got killed and gets to the underworld he became serious. The only Servant that is so powerful he can conjure himself.
So in UBW Gil loses an arm and then gets swallowed by the Grail. In HF he loses a leg and then get's swallowed by the Sakura Grail... In FSN he get's killed by EA then swallowed into the Grail to power up its wishing granting magic circuit mechanism or whatever happens to servants when the Grail swallows them before the last servant is dead or gone or left. I am noticing a theme here. Too many coincidences lining up can't be a coincidence... it must be... *_"FATE!"_*

@@buniboi2163 the point of the fight was for Shirou to counter Gil's attacks while finishing the battle before he could use ea or he would've lost, and the swords missing him in the air, you can "blame" ufotable for that, in the VN Shirou doesn't go into the air at any moment and the fight is way quicker, Ufotable had to make a final battle worthy animation tho, and it's the same for Gil just standing there with a gate in just stand by, in the VN, the Grail hole appears at the same moment Gil gets slashed and UBW disappears Also, there's a difference between the characters planning an strategy and building up the necessary resources to beat an enemy and straight up using plot armor to somehow beat an unbeatable opponent, I'm sure that Gil surviving Shirou's slash is just to show how even though they planned for everything, Gil is still superior to Shirou even if Shirou beat him this time

Because CasGil and KidGil can both keep their cool. Although CasGil's only weakness is being a workaholic that works himself to death... literally. To the point he runs out of mana... KidGil is weak to OP magical girls... kappa XD

we see in gilgamesh vs berserker fight that gil can summon his weapons behind the enemy, now imagine if he would have done the same here, u can't just deflect some blades with 2 swords if they come from every side and we already see that the weapons created are inferior to the original, it was that simple to gilgamesh to totally wreck emiya but i guess the plot armor made gil forgot his own capacities...
plot armor of Shiroe made him forget about his Sha Naqba Imuru (clairvoyance), his Gold Armor (need A rank fantasm to damage), original Gae Bolg, Gram, Merodak, and, of course, about Chains of Enkidu... And many others thinks.
@@esp3332 that's called plot armor. Yes, his ego is huge, but he can put his armor on in less than a second, and there were a lot of time to do so in the fight. Tecnically, in the fight with Shirou, Gil did everything to lose, so that the protagonist could win.

Lancer was able to only dodge the fight and survive, because Gil wasn't serious and didn't gave much mana. His stats were also cut by 1 point at least. Arturia is weaker than him also. The only way for her to win was avalon+luck+Gil not fighting seriously. That's all. Gil defeated her in Zero without any problem, easily overpowered her at the beginning of the fight in Nights... And that's with problems with mana supply and his stats.
Basically, yes that is correct but Gilgamesh was very arrogant and UBW is a perfect counter against Gil if he doesn't immediately bring out Ea. Which he won't because of said arrogance.

He comes across as a really dense moron a lot because of it, so a lot of anime only people don't like Shirou. The VN lets us get a much better look at how he really is, like how he is actually quite snarky but is too polite to voice it most of the time (Rin tends to get him to be outwardly snarky sometimes). For instance, Shirou quickly pegs Rin as a Tsundere and teases her by acting dense about things sometimes, like the scene where he made her openly ask him out to lunch in front of their schoolmates. The anime doesn't let us know he was just teasing her so he comes across as actually dense.
