    I am a very proud owner of this wonderful and gorgeous instrument, and have been for over two years (it was my most perfect 50th birthday present) and I absolutely LOVE it! Now my ability just needs to grow to truly appreciate and take advantage of the amazing quality it offers (NB: I have a long way to go). It is truly my pride and joy...!!!
    Thanks for this most splendid video Tim... revealing its true potential and how it SHOULD be played! Plenty of inspiration here, for sure...!!! Blessings.....

    GP500 is definitely the Best Buy, think I’m gonna trade my CP88 for it as all synth sound could be substituted by PC and MIDI keyboard. I like your English too, subscribed!

    Seen a lot of reviews of this Casio and I’d love to play one. This piano will probably be my next piano purchase.
    BTW, I have tried the Yamaha Avantgrands n1, n2, and n3x; Kawai Novus nv 10; and the Roland 705. Loved the sound and feel of the Kawai.

    Nice video man. Apparently the key widths on this piano are slightly narrower than what is normal on say a proper grand piano? Do they seem full size to you? cheers

    I wrote better my question. Is it more difficult to play advanced classical music on the acoustic grand pianos after studying it mainly on the Casio GP,510? Or it has a too lighter/different action/touch than acoustic? That Play it on the Casio ia easier?

    • @topmusicco
      @topmusicco  Год назад

      It's obviously better to practice on the instrument you'll perform on (ie. acoustic all the way). However, most pianists will be able to adjust after learning on a hybrid/digital to the acoustic after a short time if they're at advanced level.

    • @verymozart
      @verymozart Год назад

      @@topmusicco you can't practice on the Grand acoustic pianos at the exams, only warming up maybe 30 minutes before examination, and not on the same piano you perform the recital diploma. Do you really think it wouldn't be obvious for me to know to practice on the piano?
      It's generic to say about adjusting... I just asked specifically about the Casio GP 510. Sorry but if you need to answer like this it means either you don't know or that the Casio 510 is not very suitable for the needs I stated. It would be so much more fair, professional and honest, just replying up to what someone knows or up to what things are instead of this generic not focused replies

    Went to a piano store with a friend and looked at the GP300 which is a similar instrument with 3 piano effects (Hamburg, Berlin & Vienna). Found the bass (the lower notes) a bit heavy in relations to the higher notes. Like the Yamaha NU-1 the sound quality has room for improvements. Every brand of grand piano and model has an individual sound. Wouldn't say the sound effect of a is a copy of Bechstein, Bosendorfer or Steinway. Wouldn't pay that amount of money just to get the acoustic hammer action. Songbook is just a throw-in. You can find all sorts of music online.
    A while back found an acoustic piano with a practice lever. You pull a lever underneath the keyboard to lock the hammers so you are hitting a circuit board. You can plug in a headphone for practice. Otherwise it is a piano with 88 sets of strings like the real thing.

    Lovely instrument but what happens in a power cut? I own digital pianos and and acoustic upright so no problem in power cuts asI can switch to the acoustic. But one addition we have in our little music room is an UPS which means I can still play a digital for about an hour or so if power were to go. Why don't manufacturers build in battery backup for the higher range instruments? Just a thought. Fortunately we rarely have a power outage in the U.K. soon real problem but a good UPS can smooth out any power fluctuations from the mains power which can help to extend the life of the electronics. For those that are not familiar with the term UPS it means uninterrupted power supply. Basically a box with 12 volt batteries, charger and controlling electronics. They bring up the 12 volt battery voltage to mains voltage to run mains equipment for a period of time. I reckon I will have to save my pennies to but the Casio. So far i have a Roland and Yamaha digital piano. I do have a vintage Casio keyboard which I refuse to sell on due to its tones and features. Really enjoyed your review and demo. Do you reckon Casio might lend me one?

      Power consumption is only rated at 38W. You could run this off a cheap UPS for hours.

    Wow, to be able to play a piano concerto with an orchestral accompaniment is phenomenal!
    My only concern is that Casio removed the feel of the escapement mechanism. To fully replicate the authentic grand piano feel, they should put it back.

      Good for you. But it is for me because as far as I'm concerned, the whole point of the hybrid piano is to replicate the touch, above all, of the acoustic piano.

      @@titob.yotokojr.9337 you are not suppose to feel the escapement on an acoustic piano when pressing the keys down normally anyway; it is a mechanism required by acoustic pianos due to the relationship between the hammers and strings. It is nothing but a necessary side effect that im sure piano technicians would opt to remove if it werent necessary.
      casio removed it in a calculated manner, in order to improve the action speed which is a good choice. As a result, the casio grand hybrid pianos have a faster note repetition speed than the vast majority of acoustic pianos all due to the removal of escapement. i thought i would miss the escapement too but the casio made me realize that escapement on a digital is a load of marketing BS that doesnt increase playability. I owned a kawai digital with Grand Feel action, with escapement, and the casio hybrid action (with no escapement) blows the kawai out of the water. Escapement is not as big of a contributor to the realistic feel of a keyboard as some give it credit for. If anything, escapement is partly a hinderance; especially when it comes to digitals which do not need it at all.

    I played the gp500 and the Yamaha nu1x, and the Yamaha felt like a real piano... but I’ve seldom actually played on a grand, so my suspicion is that I liked the upright action of the nu1x because it felt familiar.
    The sound system of the gp500 was way better, only reason I can think the nu1x has such a bad sound system is they want people to buy the higher priced models.
    I think Casio puts the same action and sound system in the whole GP series.

    Dude, what are you talking about? It is NOT a grand piano action! It doesn't have an escapement system, the hammers stay up while you keep the keys pressed. That is completely wrong and almost nobody is talking about this! The escapement feel is a huge part of the real piano mechanic. Of course that the GP500 would feel great, because the escapement is actually an imperfection that you can't mechanically solve in a real instrument. So taking that out removes one of the challenges of a real piano. Additionally, there is no damper mechanism, so when you press the pedal there is no physical change in the way the keys feel. You would get slightly lighter keys in a real piano because the weight of the damper is released when you press the pedal. The only real hybrid piano that does that is the Kawai NV-10, but it wasn't available when you uploaded this video.
    To be honest, this plastic hammer action Casio did, with a display view of the action when you open the lid, looks to me like a marketing gimmick. They keep insisting that is a hybrid piano, when in reality it is just a high-end digital that has an action that is made to look like a grand piano action, but without many of the key complexities that actually make a grand piano action. I get that it must be a nice digital piano, but there are other good options for that price range.

      Thanks for your comment. Have you tried playing with and without escapement. IMHO I didn’t miss it at all. It was actually a concern I had before I started but was never an issue for me

    • @FelipeCostaPiano
      @FelipeCostaPiano 3 года назад

      @@topmusicco to be honest I never played in this Casio specifically, but the digital pianos that I tested that didn't have at some sort of escapement reproduction felt weird to me. I talked to other people about this DP and it really seems that everybody loves it, and the lack of escapement really isn't an issue for most people. My concern is that it will be easier to play without one and then, when I get back to an acoustic, my technique could be impaired, especially for fast note repetition. But anyway, I appreciate your answer and it is good to hear that you liked this instrument. I will move soon and will have to rent one (the GP-310 actually) temporarily, because of the lack of other options. I hope I like it as well.

    • @julianmanjarres1998
      @julianmanjarres1998 3 года назад +5

      @@FelipeCostaPiano the fact you havent even tried the casio explains your rant. Its so easy to rant and criticize about missing specifications on a piece of paper but until you try it your opinion is of less value to to those looking for advice on which product to buy.
      I have some sympathy because i was also close minded with the casios due to the exclusion of escapement. then i tried one. everything changed after that.
      Kawai Grand Feel 3 with escapement felt like cheap and light plastic keys next to this casio. I tried them side by side, its not even close. If you are shutting out the possibly of a casio grand hybrid because it doesnt feature escapament, then you have been succesfully brainwashed by yamaha and kawai marketing, which promote an emulated escapament feature as something that supposedly enhances the playing experience when it doesnt.
      Escapement on a digital is literally stupid, it decreases playability, key movement, and note repetition speed. Casio and Bechstein knew exactly what they were doing in removing it. The removal of escapement in this case was a calculated decision to enhance the playability that in some ways (particularly, note repetition speed) surpasses the capabilities of most acoustic pianos.

    • @julianmanjarres1998
      @julianmanjarres1998 3 года назад +2

      @@FelipeCostaPiano Your concern regarding note repetition is reasonable. I thought of this too. The casio grand hybrid pianos' note repetition is so good that, it might end up spoiling you and making you realize that real acoustic pianos wont compare in that respect, and require you to adjust your technique. But in the end, all acoustic pianos are different and have different note repetition speeds anyway. i dont think you should desire for your digital instrument to have all the limitations of an acoustic, the idea is to move forward, too. And if the casio has acoustic pianos beat regarding note repetition speed, that is something to rejoice in, not lament.. I do wonder how the best acoustic piano in the world (in terms of repetition speed) would do against the casio. That would be an interesting experiment. Surely there are acoustic grands in the world that have comparable action speeds like the casio. Casio does not claim it has the fastest action of any piano in the world either way. So consider it a blessing the casio has such great speed!

    • @FelipeCostaPiano
      @FelipeCostaPiano 3 года назад +1

      @@julianmanjarres1998 thank you for your thoughtful comment. You are absolutely right, the fact that I never played on the Casio makes my opinion on the matter quite irrelevant. However, my rant was due to the fact that people are advertising this DP as having a grand piano action, which is not true. You may say the action is better than a real grand piano action because it doesn't require the escapement system, which limits the soft playing control and note repetition speed. From a playability perspective, I could agree with you. But it is not a grand piano action and people could be misled by thinking that it is. That was what my rant was all about.
      But I really appreciate your response, as I am considering renting this DP as a temporary solution. My first option was actually one of the Kawai CA line models, but seeing the reports of people who played on both instruments, it really seems that the Casio has more favorable remarks, on the action at least. Since the Kawai will not be available, my options are basically Casio or Yamaha, and I didn't like Yamaha's Clavinova series, so I am inclined to go with the Casio. So thanks again, your comment was very reassuring.
