Phew! Glad to have the difference between "lumber" and "lumbar" pointed out. That's increased my ski technique progress by leaps and bounds! Yikes, don't forget to double check your apostrophes! Excellent videos, see you all this July up the glacier, in Cervinia.
these Warren Smith instructional ski videos are the BEST.... not posted just for the promotional purpose.. like many here on tube... but actually... one can learn something from these... GREAT job.... THANK YOU
Thanks for demonstrating your skill in skiing techniques for the general public,it's a great help for when I go skiing.
Skills demonstrated clearly. My dry land exercises put into practice, in a hope that my technique improves in readiness for my ski trip in January. Watching the videos is a big incentive to get me going. Thanks so much.
Thanks Warren this is exactly what I was doing wrong (same body position as on-piste) last year as I had trouble with my body collapsing then trying to lean back was making it worse. Thanks again much appreciated.
@3.43 a reference was made to "lumber" instead of "lumbar" as in lumbar spine (lower back)
Actually, activating your core is achieved by ‘bracing’ your abs, as if someone was about to punch you in the tummy. This action doesn’t necessarily ‘flatten’ your lumbar spine. To avoid injury to the spine, the lumbar curvature should be maintained while skiing, rather than flattening it, as it is much more resilient to compressive forces. Also, performing single-leg leg raises while keeping the other leg touching the floor disactivates the rectus abdominus, since the pelvic tilt is supported, resulting in a pure hip flexor movement. The second leg should also be off the floor, although the knee can be flexed to facilitate the exercise. This will engage the ‘core’ much more. Try it. Apart from that, thanks for the valuable ski tips for skiing in powder!
I think that's "lumbar", not "lumber"
😀
Racers don't wear backpacks...posture is affected by asymmetrical weighting of back pack.
Correct, but Freeskiers do wear backpacks and adjust their posture appropriately.
So, what’s in the backpacks?? All I’ve done is frontside groomers but I love days when there’s powder (even on my 72s) so I want to venture out a bit...!
"Lumber" alignment...so I have to spend money on wood?!
Yea, those half-dozen different pairs of "planks" you ride down the hill. =D
Ha, ha!!! Very clever!
