This film was at least 20 years ahead of its time. Ashok Kumar in his role of a personality development coach was so unique and amazing!
It is still 20 years ahead of the time.
I won't say ahead of time because 20 years later and even now such movies are not made. Quality of films have been degrading only in the modern times. But I get it what you mean this movie plot was different for it's time and was like a breeze of fresh air like the many parallel movies of that time.

Amol Palekar is an established actor but Asrani was phenomenal in the role. If one hates Asrani's character all through and doesn't feel bad for him through the movie, it is a testament to the dexterity of Asrani. Notice that the character does not have any negative or dark acts, but nicely played antagonist by Asrani
I don"t see him as an antagonist.Perhaps he was in love with Prabha too.And all is fair in love and war remember?
I like the simplicity of this movie. No branded costumes, no rich families, no famous exotic locations and still it's perfect. What's the best part of this movie is old Bombay. How simple was life back then and it can be seen in each scene. Mesmerizing old Bombay.

@@kyabe5813 Yes very old Bungalows built many years ago and hence had very nominal rents. High rise buildings with flats weren't that ubiquitous . BTW Amol Palekar rents and shares his bungalow. Both of them don't have a vehicle of their own. He has to save up to buy a scooter. When later in the movie Palekar wants to seduce the heroine he rents/ buys a flat cos it is not convenient in his old place cos of roomates.
Amol Palekar is a legendary actor his acting in every film 🎥 📽️ is like a honest, simple and a very romantic type character who never do any action or fight scenes... but we can relate his acting in our common men's lives ♥️♥️♥️

No wonder why 'Chhoti si baat' became such a memorable masterpiece 💞 it was considered as one of the best hindi romantic comedy film of the 1970s, a nostalgic favourite for its quirky take on pre-hypercongestion bombay. Arun's character can be related by many nice guy's even today that's the beauty of this movie it has simplicity & innocence with a real life story which connects directly to heart. Colonel singh mould him into a mature, confident young man through meticulously designed lesson plans, peppered with philosophy so he was very instrumental in making the love story of Arun & Prabha work 💕 otherwise Nagesh would have definitely won in the race.

My father was big fan of Basu Chatterjee and Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
He almost watched all their movies.
In my childhood, between 1985-90 I got chance to see all those memorable films because of him.
He probably named me Amol after Amol Palekar.
I think I got pretty good leader from my dad. Whenever I watch is movies I miss a my dad lot....

I saw this movie in Bengaluru in the year 1975. It has been 47 years since and the movie was a run away hit and particularly lataji's song Na ja ne kui was and is still a liliting song. Simple story and with no expenses that goes in the making of movies.Vidya sinha with her beautiful portray of middle class office going girl was best showing the life of people in Bombay in those years

The cupid struck 'boy next door' follows the girl and camera takes the heroine from many angles but no vulgarity. 50 years of the movie or maybe more. Many still watching. With so much skin show we are unable to make such masterpieces.
Fun fact: the makers of this movie used the image of Hema and Dharmendra on the posters and only a small picture of Amol Palekar and Vidhya Sinha to gain more audience. Excellent market strategy 👏cause though it's recognised as an excellent work in cinema it might have not made the box office collection as big because of the actors being not so famous among public.
My opinion: Ashok Kumar, Asrani and Amol Palekar are gems ... Amol Palekar remained underrated but he's a phenomenal actor. Don't know much about Vidhya Sinha because I have seen only one movie of hers but in this movie she acted really well.

The movie is based on Amol Palekar and Ashok Kumar acts like a Saarthi for him . People come for movies especially for the protagonist. So they might have intuited that the movie won't be able to grab public's attention through its advertisement so they adopted a different strategy 😂
