    It’s so funny how Real real changed their customer attitude as soon as they had learned that you made an influential video and you are not an average customer. What hypocrisy!

    • @someusername4129
      @someusername4129 7 месяцев назад +4

      This isn't unusual. This is generally how things work with corporations. They make an assessment if they have to care about complaints and if they get traction online they do a bunch of PR to manage it. So while it seems hypocritical, most of these companies don't even care about being criticized until buzz starts generating around it. Why do you think shien did that influencer trip?

    I purchase Bottega lug boots from RealReal. They were listed as brand new. My sister has a pair and I’ve worn hers before (purchased at store). The ones I received had cheaper leather material and was very light in weight compared to hers. The stitching was also different. I let realreal know and they refunded me but they haven’t taken the listing down. What was odd was that even after I purchased, the listing was still there. It’s almost as if they had several of the same size.
    So now, 4 months later.. they still have the listing up.

    Purchasing from The Real Real has been fine for me. I've got a really nice Oscar De La Renta silk blouse, Versace knit top and a Mellissa Odabash tunic. All three have served me well. Selling or consigning to The Real Real is a whole other game. It could be a month to a month and a half before you even see your items listed. That doesn't bother me as much as the 40%-45% commission The Real Real profits from each purchase. If I wanted to give my handbags away they would go to family and close friend's. Almost half commission is a little to steep for my blood.

    I purchased a Louis Vuitton vintage papillon 19 on TRR but then the bag they sent was a papillon 26. I was angry and originally, they claimed that there would be no returns. I emailed them and claimed that the LV they sent was NOT what they advertised. They told me to take a photo measuring the product because it clearly isnt the 19. They then accepted the return and i got my money back, but what was disturbing is even after i returned the papillon 26, THEY STILL PUT THE LISTING BACK UP WITH THAT BAG AS THE PAPILLON 19 WHICH IS VERY RARE AND CLICK BAIT FOR CUSTOMERS. never again with TRR.

    Thank you for shedding the light on how TRR authenticates their products. I have been a customer of theirs for 9 years and both bought and sold clothes. I never had a negative experience. Recently bought an Hermes bag on TRR after buying all my bags exclusively at Hermes boutiques. The one I bought on the TRR was in the color no longer offered by Hermes boutiques so the only route to go was the resale market. I took it to my Hermes boutique to confirm both the color and show it off. My SA loved it too. The color is striking and the bag has not been in production since 2015 or so in this color.
    I am curious to see how TRR will clean up its act after being accused of selling counterfeits. But this problem is not exclusive only to the resellers. There was a criminal case in Russia against a store merchandiser who swapped Hermes bags for fakes and sold fakes to the boutique customers while reselling authentic bags on resale platforms. Customers purchased FAKE bags at an Hermes boutique in Moscow thinking the bags were real. And no one could tell the difference

    • @MelleButterf

      The same happened in Madrid at Chanel, in the 2010s , they sold fake purses and clothes! It was a scandal and made it to the news for a short time. The store is still open but to me it was a before and after moment, I've gone buying full artisan products since I live were the best leather and its treatment in the world really is, in the Spanish shore.

      I know of similar cases in Sofia too! The boutique managers themselves do this and cheat the brand inspectors.

      Thank you for sharing this story. It is really scary to hear that you may get a fake from the stores of the brands due to a few crooked employees. But unfortunately greed makes people do all sorts of things. I think platforms like TRR have to pay an insane attention to scale their authentication ability impeccably as their business grow. Otherwise you may not have a business. The while model depends on that pillar of trust. These bags are like money. They are valuable because of the signature on it not the material it is made of.

    • @marinabrennan7750
      @marinabrennan7750 7 месяцев назад

      @@tanner.leatherstein exactly. It’s not the material, it’s the brand. And craftsmanship. It’s a very fragile balance for brands to make sure they deliver on their promises consistently. Hermes is design + craftsmanship for me at least. I know that I can their bags on trips, shove their bags under airplane seats, get rained on, and take with me to business meetings as well as to brunches with friends. And they would look appropriate and elevate my outfit. And they would not break down under heavy use conditions. Their bags are made like their saddles to last. Not something I can say for dainty Chanel bags for example.

      I can assure you that excess / waste stuff is pure lie. Hermès keeps the best leather (sourced in Italy for Togo and most of the casual leather) and refuse to sell it to other brands.
      Even if those Italian suppliers pretend that they sell « similar Hermès quality leather», they lie. Hermès has very strict contracts and they investigate. No company is allowed to sell their leather. If one try, they just stop to source from them. And we are talking about 3 suppliers, family businesses like Hermès. They work for decades together. Plus Hermés has it own leather factories in France. They basically bought them.
      Rare exotic leather (crocs, ostrich, lizard) are directly sourced by Hermès from their own farms. They have their own subsidiary for those precious leathers. This Hermès subsidiary sell to other brands like Chanel, LV) but they keep the best leathers for them.

    HI Tanner thanks for the interesting update and indeed Entrupy is definitely more reliable than just eyeballing it. I feel there are more fakes of the Classic Chanel Flap as that has been under hot demand for over two decades and so there has been more time to "engineer" the Chanel classic flap to make it look more real. As for Hermes, I feel like it has only blown up over the past 5-10 years and so the technology is not as good although improving. Generally the grains of the leather and the smell along with really poor stitching will give it away. In my personal opinion I have yet to see a very good super fake also. I feel they always cut corners somewhere and it is always noticeable upon closer inspection. I don't personally own or endorse fakes but certainly can recognize them, esp the ones I have a lot of experience in using the authentic one. There is always something giving it away. The merchandising and listing data is not very good and there’s barely any photos on the real real. I do shop there, but I really wish they would improve the listing information. They just have so much volume going through their warehouses that it’s really difficult to have the attention to detail to make sure that these items are appropriately merchandised. I love vintage items, and of course the only way to enjoy vintage is to get it on the resale market. At the end of the day you have to accept that yeah, there is always a possibility that any item out there not fresh new from the store is fake. But what are the odds? Does that mean the resale market should not exist? I tend to think that is exactly what the luxury brands want us to believe.

    Interesting insight into the damage control The Real Real (TRR) does when repairing its reputation. I am curious if this degree of authentication is applied to lower security clearances. The video footage segued from a "level 5" Hermès bag into AI tools and hardware tools towards authentication; however, it still remains unclear if this degree of thoroughness is applied across the board. For example, will a human "expert" thoroughly assess a Coach bag by utilizing all available tools at their disposal (cross-referencing AI databases, testing the hardware etc.)? Heck, will this degree of thoroughness be applied to cheaper and more common products from more "esteemed" fashion houses (LV Damier, Gucci Ophidia etc.)?
    I remain skeptical b/c it becomes obvious that these businesses thrive and survive on sheer volume and so, we are left with more questions than meaningful answers. The take away from this tour was that TRR basically told the viewer, "Look at what we do for max security clearance merch. Trust us, bro." We are back at square one where the secondary market is at the mercy of the authenticator's word against the ever-improving counterfeit industry.

    Your skit of buying the fake bags was so funny. I have some lower price fakes (less than $70.00) that I have bought at thrift stores and ports in the Caribbean. People who own genuine bags from the big names have looked at them and it is apparent they are fakes.

    I have two sources of "superfakes" I'd be happy to send you the info to see how these bags hold up against authentication. I have one from one of these sources, and it, to me, is exceptional, but I've never put it up against AI authentication. Is there a preferred way to send you the info for those contacts, as I can't post them in RUclips comments. Thanks for the great content, it's really fascinating.

    I found a pair of "GUCCY" men's shoes on RealReal today. Notice an issue with the spelling of Gucci? Only 3 inches high on the side of the shoe, so maybe the missed it. Maybe it was part of a special release

    I purchased a pre owned black epi bag on eBay some years ago..as soon as I received it, I was confident it was fake…as I had owned a black epi and used it 10 yrs every day…mine did not scuff or chip on the corners and did not scratch….the fake had a soft sprayed paint on it with lots of deep scratches without a general sign of wear…the bag came from a seller from Japan with thousands of good feedback….Vuitton would not authenticate without sending to france

    So i recently purchased from the real real a louis vuitton and a Gucci bag , these bags i can tell they are real heres my biggest problem with them the descriptions, the gucci bag stated wear fading on bottom with picture of bottom corner also showed the picture of corner so i was ok with that i wanted a hobo bag that i didn't have a baby. When i got the bag it literally had 3 holes 1 hole in each corner very obvious holes. they say fair condition but i've noticed theres certain term words about the bag they wont use in description probably them worried it wont sell. It was not a bag that could not be returned . So they got me . Ive purchased Chanel and lv from fashionphile way better experience,

    I bought from The Real Real a rare Chanel lego clutch, the price was too good to be true. I used authentication service, everything was good until I received the bag which was not as described; so many broken pieces and missing pearls when I complained, they refunded me $180, and it was not good enough, but the blowing mind deal made me keep the bag

      Actually just yesterday had a pickle with another preloved bag I bought from another platform (not real real) hoping to sort it out before I make the video. So you are right. These things are hurting my trust in preloved route

    • @ItsTooLatetoApologize
      @ItsTooLatetoApologize 8 месяцев назад +2

      This is why I will never buy preloved. It's still far too expensive for a fake and in my opinion and too risky if I ever change my mind and want to sell it. I would much rather pay for a contemporary brand like Coach (vintage Coach) or from quality independent leather craft stores. I don't care about the brand, I care about the aesthetic and the quality. But as I said, I can see how these fakes are ruining the pre-loved market for those shopping vintage which is sad because vintage is so beautiful.

      I view TRR often . I watch videos and have heard many different experiences Re authentication/Customer experience. I believe having a large platform helped in this case.
      I don’t have the confidence to purchase from the pre loved market yet.
      I had been eyeing the Vintage LV denim bags which were previously quite affordable and now with the new relaunch from LV the vintage denim bags are now over 3k.

    That scene where those two guys wearing nylon stockings over their heads/faces and putting a potato bag over your head to whisk you away in their van was crazy. Hilarious too. To have to go through all of that just to get a copy handbag! I lived in China for three years. They have a five story building near the border with Hong Kong that sells nothing but copy goods. Each floor has around 100 shops! Each one selling copy goods. All five floors! It gets so busy there that they even opened up a seafood restaurant at the top floor! China is THE biggest culprit for making copy goods. And they are really good at it! The Chinese. They love to just copy it or steal the plans to make it. Much cheaper and easier for them to do this. No problem.

    The RealReal sold me a fake Chanel handbag. I contacted them & they refunded because they knew it was fake. It wasn’t even a good fake. To my surprise & horror, I saw the same handbag relisted. WTF!! I’ll never buy luxury handbags from them ever again. I do like the videos here though.

  • @shadowfilm7980

    Real Real has some issues. I have tried to use their service in the past. Their pricing for literally brand new (never been worn) clothing is way under par. They price it so low! It’s ridiculous. I’m talking about a designer clothing item not even a year old! Yet they went so far down I found it ridiculous to just leave it with them. So I asked to have it returned to me. But then that too was an issue. They don’t allow you to just pick up your item at one of the locations where you dropped off your item. No. They instead ship it back to you. But this takes awhile. To where you end up trying to call them to find out where is your item? It was frustrating. Won’t be using them again. No.

    The super fakes are the artisans who actually makes the bag as their real job. There are a few Hermes Artisan for hire in secret where they made Birkin after work. Since the Birkin is done by one person (not a production line), this super rep is possible as it is made by the same person who makes the "genuine"
