Hi Tanner!! Chanel vintage Vs Modern day leather is very different! I would please love to see you analyse a modern day seasonal Chanel bag comparing to a vintage one (like the tote in this video). Thanks for the amazing content!
Especially as this vintage bag might be a fake, as underlined in the video. So ranking Chanel just above YSL based on the analysis of a potentially fake vintage.... Nono! Besides, that was a pretty plain bag, we are far from the complexity of a classic flap, 2:55, or Boy. Absolutely irrelevant ranking.
This is definitely helpful. I’m hoping to see where you would place Joseph Duclos on your chart. When it comes to craftsmanship, leather choices, and artisans’ dedication from start to finish for each bag, I’d like to see your take on this quiet luxury brand 😊
This is fantastic. I'd love to see you review Dior as well! Are they all glamor and low quality, or are they 'as expected' for the fashion luxury space?
I am curious about Dior as well. I have stopped by a few Dior stores to check the Saddle and Lady Dior but didn't have the budget to spare for a video yet. Hopefully soon :)
@@tanner.leatherstein i would recommend prioritize budget for the most popular brands first, local home brands later. That should drive interest & traffic and grow your channel a lot faster. Most popular doesn't always equal expensive, Polene for example
Love your new concept. It will be very helpful to us visual people. A chart always helps. I hope that someday you will review a Dooney and Burke bag. I've always liked them and think they are underrated. Thanks Tanner.
Hi! Great video as always! Where does Demellier land on this matrix? Could you please do a video on one of their signature bags like the Vancouver or Montreal? Thank you!
How do Montblanc and Coach land on here, Tanner? And are we going to see more gentleman's brands? Very curious, keep up the good work. Also, I think your Turkish side is showing... "Egzotic" at the top of the matrix! Keep up the amazing work!!
Thanks. Lately I've been getting into vintage bags from the 60s and 70s and I've seen that for example Yves Saint Laurent had a very good quality that it lost over time, whereas Hermès was very basic and I'm referring for example to its Trim model compared to now❤
That's fascinating! It's intriguing how the quality of certain brands has evolved over time. It's great that you're exploring vintage bags from the 60s and 70s and noticing these changes in quality and design. ❤️
I love the new matrix. This puts in a logical format much of what I have been thinking about various brands after listening to your reviews. I like how it points out the best values at each level of leather work sophistication.
Thanks so much for your good work! I find it so valuable that you provide handbag enthusiasts with such information. It's devastating to see on forums such as r/handbags how people spend unreasonable amounts of money for these brands in the perceived luxury segment.
Thank you for your kind words! I'm passionate about providing valuable information to leather and handbag enthusiasts like yourself. It's important to make informed decisions, especially when it comes to luxury purchases. I share your concern about excessive spending, and I'm here to offer guidance and insights to help navigate the world of leather and handbags more wisely.
Wow, love the chart! It really makes it easy to see when the brand premium becomes a larger cost factor. It reminds me of the "Pyramid of Luxury Brands". It's an infographic I saw on a Business Insider article. But it's more focused on brand perception. Might be cool to use that as another reference to compare how the value/price ratio lines up with perception.
I know this comment is coming a long time after the original post was made but i hope you get to read it @tanner. Firstly i cannot tell you how impressed i am with your knowledge and expertise in this subject. For someone who is trying to expand her natural fibre made wardrobe (real leather, wool etc) and whose major principle in buying stuff is getting 'a great deal' on a budget, your channel has become indispensable for my leather goods search. One question i have though is have you thought of reviewing very good leather brands (my opinion) based out of the generally well known leather capitals of the world...for example in Africa. This is because there is a growing luxury fashion industry in Nigeria (where i come from) which includes outstandingly crafted outfits, but also handmade leather products, and i would one day hope to see a few of them reviewed on your channel. Love from Europe!
Much respect for your perspective and the thought you put into coming up with an easy to visualise your assessment of each brand's leather pieces. I think it makes it easy to understand and provides a reference point to measure new against previously reviewed brands against your key assessment points. Looking forward to more videos from your channel.
glad you like your Saddleback bag. thank you for your nice words. And I am not sure about the world but I am interested in navigating everywhere in the "Leatherverse"
Interesting content. I have a Polene, Strathberry & Atelier Auguste bag and the quality and style is amazing. I am now keeping an eye on any other brands similar to those. I feel that they are more unique rather than all the usual bags by the big brands that you see everywhere now
Agreed, I love to see brands like those to offer a nice and fresh perspective with great value for price approach. will discover more of those and build this map of the land out
I didn't want this video to go super long as it is to introduce this new idea. But I love coach and it will have a very nice place on this. I will plot all previous products I did in near future. And all new review videos will end with their place on the matrix. This one to show a range of brands in different parts of the plain
just want to comment on coach bags, i used quite many coach bags, durable, fair price HOWEVER as mentioned the inner logo is not leather. so i have couple of my bags, inner logo is cracked, and create a mess inside my bag. so dissapointed. whilst the outer bag leather and all still fine. but make me hate using them. really hope they either change the material or just don’t add those logo at all
Thank you for introducing this. I was certainly one asking for it! I suspect you’re going to see for mass market a plateau of quality and an acceleration in the price multiple.
Ferragamo, Carolina Herrera, Butti, Lalage Beaumont, Furla, Lotusse. I'm curious about where these brands stand on the chart. Your work is a great tool to spot quality, thank you!
I will review and place at least one product from all those brands. I intend to make a well rounded guide for the leather market together with you all here
Hey there, love your effort in educating us about leather facts. Bought a product from your brand as a gift, so far so good. Thanks a lot! Just curious on what you think of Joseph Duclos and Delvaux? Do they really live up to their name?

Bought a Portland bag recently. I agree, it is very basic and has no support so unless you have a lot of stuff in it it looks sloppy. But is was leather. Like your approach to the graph.
I really liked this video! I just would have preferred to see some more brand, especially the craftsmen, like Chester Mox or some others that I don’t know but can offer very good quality products.
Love your videos, Tanner! I'm seriously looking to get a small piece from Polene or Strathberry. I have a couple of pieces from Cuyana and wanted to know where this brand lands on your matrix. I liked your video on Cuyana but was a little confused because I didn't know if it was worth buying any pieces from this brand. Thanks!
Amazing idea sir!!! I appreciate your reviews and shared it multiple times with my wife haha. Maybe Berluti is an option to review? I don’t know if you’re ever going to review it, but i’m in the market for a biker jacket. In doubt between John Elliott or paying a big premium (but hopefully better) Cèline Homme. Did you came across a better brand for a biker jacket?
Please, please review Aigner. In Germany, it is such an established brand in the 300-1000 EUR range. I do believe them to be around the Coach quality level, maybe positioned a wee bit above. My wife has vintage belts/bags from her grandmother that wear well and have exotic leathers. New models vary a bit but have quality accessories that stand wear and tear. One bag shows some red suede leather shining through the outer beige leather which is a shame. Still, a comparison would be much appreciated!
I love your own products so far. I have purchased 3 monogrammed belts and a wallet for my husband. Thank you for the education. Would you ever consider reviewing leather shoes?
I'm thrilled to hear that you're enjoying our products! Your support means a lot. Reviewing leather shoes is also on my list of ideas. Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you Tanner, I suppose it makes sense to pay a premium for the perceived luxury leather goods based on all the advertising costs involved. Like you mentioned before, I suppose you are really paying for brand name versus the leather compared to the other leather options out in the market. Some consumers will argue that Hermes is worth every penny too. BTW; have you announced the winner of the ysl giveaway yet?
I think having this graph is a really good visualization of some of the biggest houses for leather. Something I would like to be added would be Coach and Marc Jacobs as I remember your opinion on Coach being mostly positive but with some caveats and Marc Jacobs being mixed, so being able to see how well you view them would be great 😊
Coach, MJ and all others I have reviewed will go in this matrix soon. I didn't want to drag this video to long as it is to introduce this concept. But very soon this will be a live tool on my website you can check out anytime you like for things I have reviewed.
I watched your Crush bag video and loved your review so I ordered one from their website. However, not all colors were available and I think because a lot of people ordered the bags thanks to you! However, I went on Etsy and sure enough they were selling the bag for 40% less. Looking at the bag I realized that they were selling a fake bag... it looked horrible... please notify Crush like you did with Polane bag. I hate to see people buy a cheap bag when they can have the real thing. Love your videos, please do one on JW Adnderson. I love their bags.
Leather wasn't better but it was less finished usually back then. In fact we can make much better minimal finished leathers today. Perhaps the biggest change is on designs and how we make bags. Factory mass produced vs craftsman work
Wow, such a good visual on well known brands, thank you very much for your work! 👏 Could you please try these brands as well: Aspinal of London and DeMellier. TIA

I really want to know where other brands land on the chart - the ones more affordable, less $$ and still designer like Kurt Geiger (very interesting, eye catching designs) or Pinko (it is extremely popular in my country, I'm not quite sure if the leather quality is that good). Thank you for always informative content!

Radley is already on our list for review. While I can't give an exact timeline for when I'll cover them in a video, I'm committed to going through everything on my list. Thank you so much for your suggestion and ongoing support! 🙏
I would not buy the Dior totes, they cost 57 dollars and I believe was revealed to be made by illegal Chinese migrants. They are paid a below minimum wage too.
Would love for you to review Tusting. It’s a family owned English brand where the bags are made in England and on a small scale. I’m looking to buy one or two of their bags and compared to a brand like Mulberry, they’re very reasonably priced (about half). In fact they’re probably where Mulberry was about 15 years ago when I bought my first Mulberry bag - small, English brand, timeless design and reasonably priced. Unfortunately Mulberry has become a little too mass market for my liking so would love to know your opinion on Tusting
Good question. Not done a Dior or Tod yet. I have been to their stores and I like Tod more to be honest from the items I reviewed. But will done one from both
Peter Nitz's work is definitely beautiful! Are his leathers provided by the client? Saw him say that in the comments on Instagram on a camel leather bag. In that case, I suppose the multiplier would also be higher (or the price would be lower).
Most of the time he supplies everything. But I have seen some clients sending their specialty leathers like that Camel. I don't know how he prices those but I believe the multiplier may be slightly higher on the workmanship. Just a guess
Interesting video! When you dissect the bags do you keep a spreadsheet to rate the quality of the bag at a level of detail like the quality of the materials used on the project down to the level of the thread, leather, and hardware and also the craftmanship such as techniques used for area of the bag and functionality (don't know how to break this down) and aesthetics (maybe using design principles to rate the overall attractiveness of the bag)? It would be interesting to know what bag model of a brand is on par with a bag of another :)
Can you do a review of San Francisco leather boutique store April in Paris started by former Hermes artisan Béatrice Amblard and also her leatherwork school Amblard Leather Atelier? I think their bags are mostly bespoke but the small leather goods are more available online. They specialize in selling and teaching hand sewn leather items.

This is a great idea! Super helpful!
Glad you think so!
Very helpful, thank you!
Thanks for sharing. I'm looking at a bag from strathberry. I almost really love Dior. Where does Dior and Tod fall?
Could you do a review of a Zanellato bag especially the postina bag? I really like the brand and the leather
What do u think of the quince leather purse. Price seems too good to be true
Have you reviewed any Serapian goods?
Hello. I’ve been looking through your videos for any reviews of Radley London handbags. I can’t see any reviews. Have I missed them? Thanks.
Great video, more please !
You got it!
Awesome job, thank you so much for this information 😃
Can you do a review of San Francisco leather boutique store April in Paris started by former Hermes artisan Béatrice Amblard and also her leatherwork school Amblard Leather Atelier? I think their bags are mostly bespoke but the small leather goods are more available online. They specialize in selling and teaching hand sewn leather items.
Would love to see your thoughts on small artisan brands i came across RUclips such as Little King Goods and Tanner goods
Great vid! i hope you can do Givenchy and Gucci soon.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Givenchy is already on my list, and I've actually already reviewed Gucci. You can check out that reviews here: www.notion.so/Gucci-8e615532a0a240c8a5aa014273dad529?pvs=4
