Hey all! I created the time-stamps for the video in description, but I will also post them over here just in-case: Time-Stamp: Intro of Video - 0:00 Movement for KB/M & Controller- 0:35 Quests - 1:47 Aetherytes Explanation - 4:14 Traveling in Eorzea - 8:11 Classes/Jobs System - 10:36 Gear Sets for your Classes - 16:55 Hotbar Sharing Explained - 19:30 Inventory Settings Explained - 21:13
2:21 *_...It has a pretty solid story for an MMO_* That's setting the bar at rock bottom. Don't spend money on skipping the story. If you can't deal with the way it drags then don't get into FFXIV because that is pretty much what you will meet for the entire thing.
I'm used to a story kinda dragging out and being super long in Pathfinder Kingmaker (it's still really good though) It's not just MMO's, but I think anyone who has some patience will be fine.
I know I'm a little late to the comments, but one correction regarding aetherites. To set them as a "Return" point, you need to set them as your "Home Point." The "Free Location" is for those who have the security token.
7:25 Register Free Destination is only available if you are using a one-time password feature, either on your cellphone or with the keychain thingy. To set your respawn/return point for when you die or to use the /return command, you select: "Set Home Point" instead.
Quest icons with a plus next to the are use to signify not necessarily a quest that gives gear or gil, but a quest that unlocks a feature of a game. Be that a new dungeon, a new common action like materia melding, or a new area like the Gold Saucer.
I like rebinding q and e to hotbar and replace a and d to strafe and rely on mouse for camera movement also shift and Ctrl q and e for even more keybinds
Please use "Feature Unlock Quest" or "Feature Quest" instead of "Side Quest Plus". They unlock game features (jobs/class, dyes, so on). These are NOT ALWAYS OPTIONAL, considering your class/job quests are also included (and without doing them you will not function on a higher level).
@Thamriyell wish you had made this guide when i started playing ! 7 years ago amazing work mate ;) wish you could do some new ones for the heavensward and bloodstorm Main quest onces
Elvis M. Me too!! I played the trial, I find the interface is messy and not as smooth as wow. As well as movements and the world is beautiful but when your doing quests your not as immersed, unlike wow!
thaumorg??? or whatever its the warlocky type class. wit a staff, very dark, demonic AND THERES LITERALLY A CULT AT THE CLASS HAUL AHHAAHA. theres a free trial until level 35 i believe!! but its restricted, yolu cant actually do much on it, cant party up with other new players, but enough to get a feel of the world!
no not for me, questing was bland and boring imo it didnt feel immersive enough WHEN questing, the UI is sooo messy and not enjoyable. Tho some quests are cool with voice and all, when questing i just felt like u dont get to see/feel the world as much as in wow, maybe the camera movements are too quick. You know how in wow, questing feels slower, the world feels big and your actually in it, things are happening and youd notice it. I can't really pin point what it was, however I have been back once or twice to just look around the world, walk around with my boyfriend. I feel like the roleplay aspect is alot bigger, but thats a separate sector to me. I wouldnt actually spend the time to keep leveling up and quest to get max level, and play the game as intended. But if I could just spend my time looking at the worlds, building houses and making friends I would, but to do most of those things you gotta be max level. OK SO IN SHORT, I WOULD NOT BE BUYING THIS GAME, as tempting as it is. If you wanna feel like ur actually in a world, PLUS good gameplay I would stick to wow. But if your "endgame" is just to kinda roleplay and escape, it seems like a good option! But again, I EMPHASISE, THE UI IS SO MESSY! And for me, australia we dont have a dedicator server so it's a little laggy, im sure u can fix up the ui placement but I felt like the layout isn't as clean too which really bothers me, and some little stuff like the tabs, eg character view/bags/spellbook doesn't look done. In wow, the game feels very neat and everything is there for a reason, very comfortable and it doesn't look like it's been plucked from a 2002 game. Sorry I'm going on and on, but I have alot to say LOL
I'm going to start playing FFXIV soon, so thank you very much! Spec change and hotbar tips were very helpful :D Also, is it possible to make max lvl Arcanist or it has to be changed to Summoner anyway? (not talking about Scholar, only interested in DPS job so far)
I'm new to the game. I wanted to play Co op with a friend but we have different quests and are in different places. He is in Gridania whilst I'm in Ul'dah. Is it possible to change home areas? and is it also possible to track quests with your friends?
Sullied Logic you cant track the same quest with your friends but you can be in the same party and do each other’s quests together as a party and you can’t switch your home once you’ve picked it but can travel to any of them after some leveling up
Is this game better on PS4 or PC? purely for controller Vs keyboard? Also, is it best to buy the game and all expansions from the start, or play the game first, then buy the expansions when you need them to unlock further content?
Kwon-Ryoon Lee I bought the pc stormblood bundle for £15 (bargain!) I play on the Ragnarok world... PC is easier for me with mouse and keyboard. Controller seems to require a lot of muscle memory to play well.
Like the video like the idea but i would have loved it more when you would have started a new character in the character creation and what influence the choices there is to the future of the character but very informative video ... i enjoyed it.
It's a lovely game, but very dungeon heavy. And some of said dungeons aren't very popular (and if you hate pugs (like me) then it's very painful to play), 3 days I've been waiting to finish a main story quest because it is locked behind a 8 player dungeon/raid, you all will enjoy this one once you reach it, it's all about the Moogle King (and is near impossible unless you have a full party - we tried doing it with less players as no one was around and it didn't end well, and has caused us to stop playing atm). I also kind of think it's not as popular in the EU as it is in the US/Jap, because the server I am on (Phoenix EU) is pretty dead at times (I've seen more in Dalaran at 3am on Ghostlands server EU of WoW than a main city at peak time in FFXIV (which is sad really, as it's a good mmo). Fun to play, Hard to level. (And don't even try an alt or 2 if you're not into the pug dungeon grind, there is no other repeat quests, once they are completed they are gone! It has a daily quest system called Leve's, but they are not great XP and limited in number per day to can have, making it painfully slow). All in all, FFXIV is one of those games that great fun, easy to play, but then hurts itself with bad mechanics, lock outs and some lacking QoL things (like you can't craft from your bank, and no self stacking items when sorted in bags/bank). I do enjoy your videos, I find I've been watching others play FFXIV more than I have been playing myself! ;)
Hello, I really want to try this mmo and already download the "demo" from steam, but I have a question. If I'll like and buy it at what point do I need to buy the Stormblood addon?
Anton Karitskiy the level cap in the base game is 50, the story ends and you're locked at 50 and you can do the old level 50 endgame bosses and raids. Then you should buy heavensward so you can play through that story and hit level 60, then you'd need to buy stormblood to be able to level to 70 and play the story of that expansion.
This looks more colorful than ESO which has a depressing feel. I abandoned Morrowind and Oblivion and always thought the NPC's were creepy. I'm looking at leaving WoW after many years because Battle for Azeroth is soooo boring.
I can’t decide which FFXIV to buy 1st, The 60 day subscriptions or the collectors, that only has 30 days of play time -_-, Or do I still get another 60 day along side the free 30 days? hmmm
I am a hardcore mmorpg player and I specialize playing assassin style classes. Other mmorpgs I play are Old School RuneScape, RuneScape 3, Adventure Quest Worlds, Adventure Quest 3D, Maplestory 2, Bless Online, Black Desert Online and Tera. A lot more I just forgot.
My advice, learn crafting but avoid it. Level 2 classes at the same max level, while messing around with several. Avoid side quests and tribes in Realm Reborn. Run dungeons to level, don’t even bother with other methods.
Lets be honest Final FANTASY online is one of the worst online games on the market and only has much of a Fan base because of the Final FANTASY title their riding on and the main required story lines are so bad you can almost fall asleep watching them resulting in people just skipping them to get past the lengthily scenes and once their over their not much left to do in the game.
u wasted like 10 min for useless information.. "a warrior with a shield icon etc.." - dude we can see that on the screen. "a ranged MAGICAL dpsusing MAGIC projectiles" - really ? what else would they use..
Hey all! I created the time-stamps for the video in description, but I will also post them over here just in-case:
Time-Stamp:
Intro of Video - 0:00
Movement for KB/M & Controller- 0:35
Quests - 1:47
Aetherytes Explanation - 4:14
Traveling in Eorzea - 8:11
Classes/Jobs System - 10:36
Gear Sets for your Classes - 16:55
Hotbar Sharing Explained - 19:30

The last stamp is actually 21:13 , just a tiny mistake :P
Thank you!

That's personal preference. I personally really enjoy the story. I honestly feel it's one of the strong points of the game.
@Mike Jones This is inaccurate, but the cutscenes with voice acting are far between and only really start in earnest near the level 50 mark.
Keybord users, go to Character Configuration and select Legacy Type, you will move better.
Thanks for that
the scholars symbol is a pair of spectacles or glasses, the summoner is the horn they wear on their head in the traditional clothing.
7:23 isnt it suppose to be "register home point"? Free destination is if you have a password changer
7:25 Register Free Destination is only available if you are using a one-time password feature, either on your cellphone or with the keychain thingy.
To set your respawn/return point for when you die or to use the /return command, you select: "Set Home Point" instead.
Great video! I loved Persona 5 song playing in the background!!!!
I'm playing FF XIV trial version and I'm loving the game.
And did you buy the full game :D ?
TheMusicxBeatz Yes, I bought it! Tá the moment I'm taking all the quests to reach Ishgard.
Jucenir Serafim ah nice! which server you're in?
TheMusicxBeatz Behemoth, and you?

This game is so good every time I watch online it pulls me back in 👌🏽
Hey :) I started playing FInal Fantasy XIV a few days ago and this guide is very helpful, so thank you :) Will watch the other parts too.
Dude where did you go? I love your content, especially for this game!
I like rebinding q and e to hotbar and replace a and d to strafe and rely on mouse for camera movement also shift and Ctrl q and e for even more keybinds
are the classes different in races? cuz i have different melee dps classes here
It was a super helpful video, for someone that just got into the game
Thank you!
What is the best guide that starts from the beginning. IOW, we download the game and then what? Setting up characters/classes and such.
@Adam Young Thank you.
I found the explanations of aetherytes and chcocobs really useful! Thanks.
Only a few seconds in and already love the video. Persona 5 music is always a win. Always.
Great Guide. I just started playing this game and it very confusing at the start for a noob like me.
gamerZsoul yeah, im playing it on PS 4 and it fucks me conpletely at the beginning
Lmao
I'm still a noob, and I'm trying my best kinda feels overwhelming for me with the dungeons and stuff

How did you get your character to resemble 2b, so creative im envious.
Love the persona music
I'm seriously considering playing FF14. It really looks good and I'm soooooooo tired of WoW. Thank you for this video
Elvis M. Me too!! I played the trial, I find the interface is messy and not as smooth as wow. As well as movements and the world is beautiful but when your doing quests your not as immersed, unlike wow!

ChaoticLegion01 Both PC and PS4 support controller and mouse/keyboard. So it doesn't matter, if you are solely deciding based on method of control.

I always thought the scholar symbol was spectacles or something lol. But regardless I'm pretty sure the summoner symbol is a sextant.
What dark knight armor is that? I'm at lvl 67. I see it's glamoured but with what? it looks so awesome!!
on his second r and g and f what is that little star key he uses?
Star is Shift
Thamriyell thanks

Oh surprisingly not the commonly know World of Warcraft, I never played that. Oh and I forgot I played Elder Scrolls Online.
Is this game pay to win?
Need a person to not use a jump potion though. Don't wanna play with some jump kid that doesn't know how to do anything but jump to be clueless.
Any new guides for noobs in 2018?
