In today's video I go Winter Stealth Van Camping in what I thought would be a peaceful evening of relaxation in my van. However after cooking up some home made curry I was shocked to hear a firework had been shot and fired towards my van. When I went outside to see what was going on, the person in the car was reversing away and then drove off.

watching from Malaysia. great videos pack story telling and editing. for curries, we asian will fry the onions till it turned brown or caramilised. then we add garlic, sliced ginger and then the curry powder. fry for few minutes then add the chicken/beef/mutton then then coconut milk or evaporated milk/cooking yogurt.. few minutes before switch off the fire add coriander leaves.. try it and you'll love the curry.

Always park facing the entrance , so if anything does occur, you don’t have to turn round in the middle of the night , in the dark, and possibly in a panic ……great video as ever 👍🇮🇲

It's not just in the UK, it's everywhere. Governments don't want self sufficient people, especially van lifers and off griders, to be able to stay anywhere where they can't be governmentally controlled. I give all who have the nads to give "them" all the middle finger huge kudos. Keep doing what you're doing and don't back down!
Vanlifer from British Columbia here, the western side of North America is very good for vanlife generally. But we do have lots of room, pretty easy to find places to hide😁

I can very much attest to this, finding it very hard to find a safe park up these days, the boot lickers see you being self sufficient and they do NOT like it.
I’m a student nurse and I live in my van (in the hospital car park) while on placement. I had to lie low last month while youths set off fireworks near my van. If they’d found out I was in the van they’d have more than likely set one off underneath it. I think I was just lucky that my van looks like a builders work van as I’ve still got the windows to be installed. It was scary though, especially with a diesel heater and gas bottles on board. Glad you’re ok. Xx

...less cost...no condensation as you saw in video even with heater on still having to vacuum moisture.. i have only a roof hatch which i leave open a little at night and during day gives good light.. plus as you said it just looks like a builder's van...I have been living in my van since August 5 nights a week due to being a truck driver...trust me try a few months and you will see what i am talking about.

I think part of the reason for those restrictions is Travellers, lots of places are scared of having whole groups of caravans turn up, stay for a month and then leave the place in a total state.
The height barriers and restrictions will be because of the mess and disruption left by less responsible people; particularly the travellers in caravans who often leave appalling mess and damage wherever they go.
I used to live next to the park that had a no-height restriction barrier! It had a football field for the local youth football club. It was a lovely park, and ambulances used to park there as it was a good spot for them to park and be close to the area. One day it was taken over by a Traveller family that parked about 10 caravans on the football field. So that meant the football youth club had to be closed until further notice. They completely destroyed the public bathrooms and broke into the youth club mobile hub, and stole things. The police were called every night to the park due to anti-social behavior and them lighting fires and speeding around the park with their cars, off-road motorbikes, etc. They were handed an eviction notice. Took way over a month for them to leave. They left the park in a horrible state. The day after they left, a height barrier was installed. So it meant that the ambulances and more responsible people couldn't park there anymore. It's always the less responsible people that then make legit and responsible people who want somewhere safe to park, impossible.
Can't believe the weather we've been having. I'm in Scotland. We were getting -5 in the morning. There's a wee river near me The River Of Leith. It actually froze over. I'm 35 and I've never seen it ever frozen over.

I didn't get gas in my van as I'm pretty much all electric with a camping stove backup but I do remember something about you not using flexible orange rubber hose except for the last bit of the connection & that you also need it sealed with a drop out vent.
Spite you stayed out of pure spite and I'm proud of you for standing your ground!
I prefer to call it being sheer bloody minded lol.

Will, have you put a drop vent in the floor where the gas bottle is? You could get a metal gas locker or box for the gas bottle to sit in

I grew up in the 80s and 90s these are the days my dad had his Bedford cf van. We used to sit along the embankment drinking tea. We used to go to forests and nature reserves for a cheap day out. The seafront was an enjoyable day and the van was always there with a welcoming pot noodle after. Nowadays everything has changed, height barriers, pay booths and double yellow lines. The cost of living has gone up and the free things are no longer free. Welcome to rip of Britain 😞

You should install a builders leveller on either your dash or under your bed on the desk, so when you park up you’re able to see how it’s gonna be!

Really enjoy your videos. I don't know what the regs are in the UK concerning gas installations but I would strongly recommend you have the gas bottle installed in a dedicated vented gas storage container. I'm not some dude that just wants to complain. I have seen the results of a gas build up that ignited in a confined space after a cylinder leaked and it wasn't good, so please research and consider this

Those height barriers are usually secured with FB (Fire Brigade) locks, you can buy a set of FB keys off Amazon. Not sure what trouble you’d get into by opening the gate and going in though…. probably no more than you would camping for the night.

A few people are saying you should reverse in for a good getaway if needed. That's generally true. But in snow or severe ice (I know it's not the case here), you want your van to be able to get a good purchase with the ground. Over night, your van shelters the ground underneath it. I think this van is front wheel drive. Which means if you reverse, your drive wheels hit the good unsnowy ground first, which gives you about 5 metres to get a bit of momentum. If you back in and face uphill, your front drive wheels will hit the snow immediately and if they spin, you're stuck.
Just something to consider. I'm a lorry driver and it's rear wheel drive so going forwards, I have a lorry length of good ground to grip before I hit the snow.
It's just worth bearing this in mind. You do not want to find out too late.

Had a few aggy locals just down the road at North Holmwood Nat Trust with beeping etc, otherwise not a bad area. Their balls shrivel up Will when it comes down to it! The car park at Dorking Halls is a good spot for peace and quiet.
Don’t take the height barriers personally, I used to work for a London council, and many of the people who ‘set up camp’ in public open spaces are not as tidy as you, in fact some of them leave tonnes and tonnes of rubbish, including the unpleasant stuff behind them. And fly tipping is a massive problem too.

You need some levelling ramps Will. You can put them under one wheel or more to make your van level. I have some for car camping. I Wouldn’t go without them now.
If anything, I think if you had your bed vertically, it would be even more uncomfortable to sleep on 😊 Having the window vacuum is such a good idea. Removing so much of that moisture will help keep things from getting damp and rotting. Spores can cause all sorts of respiratory issues too.
Do you always park face in? I thought most van lifers parked facing outwards in case they need to get away quickly (when wild camping). Like the layout of your van 😁😁

Setting off fireworks to see if anyone is actually in the van with plans of breaking in if there wasn't, my cousin has a van & had something similar happen to him except threw a rock from a distance and done off as soon as he got out, well done for standing your ground & stay safe, great vid as always 👏
Did you take precautions to stop the water tanks freezing.
You can get a gas regulator that will tell you when the gas pressure is low because a bigger gas tank means you will deffinately forget about it

Get some wood (2x6) about 16 inches long that will fit under your tires that can level the van. And you can put some insulation around the battery to shield it from the cold. Have a grand day.

2:55 You are supposed to give way to oncoming traffic when leaving a driveway/ parking spot. Not the other way around.
Mate the second car park L Hill has a bigger one on just on the right as you drove past in the direction you were driving, big enough to get my sprinter in , bloody height barriers .
It's -21 where I live in Canada today and in the high -20's the rest of the week. Someone in the area was probably trying to scare you off with the fireworks.

Hi Will you van looks fantastic now cosy warm. -2 is cold with no heating lol. Did you put a gas level gage on the bottle so you know when it nearly empty. ? Also get a plug hole food catcher in your sink as your wast tank will stink after a bit with all the food wast going into it. Just a tip. Stay safe see you on the next one buddy. Michael nottingham 👍

Hi will, if I were you I wouldn’t put a gas bottle anywhere near a diesel heater. I watched a guy with one of those scanning thermometer test what heat was coming off of the diesel heater he had, the temps were extremely hot. Extreme heat + gas bottle being heated = bomb. Not trying to scare you mate but at least check the temps of the diesel heater!!
