Fortnite is the unfortunate holdout. rocket league works great on epic (even if they blocked playing it on steam in linux), just like all the other unreal engine games with anti-cheat stuff. You'd think Epic would be trying to capture as many people on steamdecks as possible.
The Legion Go S is supposed to be a budget device, so Lenovo is interested in Steam OS to help keep costs down. No Windows licensing fees for the device will help keep costs down.

"No Windows licensing fees" - Windows license is free for PC vendors on devices with screens smaller than 9 inches since 2012. Lenovo never paid a penny for Windows on their handhelds and small tablets
@@jayp_2023 my assumption is that they're only putting it on their weakest device in an effort to say "SteamOS is only for slow devices", or Valve isn't letting them put it on their more powerful offerings (which I doubt)
It would be so cool if the "All-White-Apple"-Fans get a Windows device and the people that prefere a stealthed-out black finish get the SteamOS version.
What Apple “all white” product are you talking about? In the past 10 years I can only think of AirPods being all white. Is that what you’re talking about?
I would love to see Legion GO s with Steam OS, because I can go to any PC store in my town and buy one. For example, I bought a Steam Deck, almost illegally, as Valve doesn't ship to my country (and probably never will). That said, I don't really believe Lenovo will go strong on Linux on handhelds. As much as we all see, SteamOS is a better environment for gaming than Windows is, but people still buy overkill devices just because they don't know anything other than Windows. The Steam Deck is the single most well thought handheld on the market, right now.

As much as I love steamOS it’s not all roses and sunshine. Yes performance is better than windows. But windows is staying the most versatile. If I can somehow race on steamOS I’ll ditch windows. But as long as there are a list of exceptions (not all hardware are compatible, not all games run) then I’ll stay with that buggy but versatile os.
Everyone loves Steam where it is filled with DRM and needs online verifying. I am not big on not owning the stuff I buy. While Windows has its issues at least I can get GOG stuff where there is no DRM. Dual boot would be Ok I guess.
The title is giving "This is the year of Linux" or "Linux to dominate Windows!" lol. This community never learns. Still, looking forward to this. Though, im satisfied with the Bazzite + Windows 11 via dual boot approach for a variety of reasons and i say this as a Ubuntu + Hyprland mainliner.
Very unlikely to happen. Especially given the relatively small overheard to use Proton and optimise compatibility. In some case, applications running through proton even experience improved performance. Devs aren’t going to build native to Linux unless there’s a very very good financial incentive to do so
i doubt it will happen if i recall valve is kinda pushing for developers to make their games work well with proton without having to put in the extra work for a linux native port
Gaming houses will bend shortly as Steam dominates. To dominate they do need to release Steam OS for desktops and handhelds, and be happy to help other hardware makers succeed in support.
@@JimmyCallLinux only has a 2% market share on Steam. It's gonna need like 20% before anyone starts developing anti-cheat software for Linux. That's actually kernel level and not running in a gimped user level through proton.
