If they actually come out with this, It'd have to pick it over the ROG Ally X. Of course this is assuming that one also doesn't get an upgrade. Even so, I likely won't be able to resist those detachable controllers.
There appears to be a tsunami of handhelds being released/planned which makes it a minefield for consumers at this price point, given the pace at which new chips and hardware are dropping atm
True, if you have the current legion go, probably no need to upgrade unless you desperately need oled or a slight spec jump. The current one is a beast already.
I have the Rog Ally Z1 Extreme, the Legion Go, and I just ordered a Steamdeck OLED just for the OLED Screen and simple console like gaming. I really don’t need nor want any more handhelds but they keep getting better and better 😵💫 gotta love technology
Waiting for that 80 Watt Battery just like the Ally X put into a new Legion Go with 8.8 inch screen. Then it will all be over for everyone else! Trust me! I'll wait.. I already have a PC .... waiting!!!
Lord Gaben has always intended SteamOS to go beyond Valve devices. Hopefully, this is just the first test run. The idea of all gamers using Arch, by the way, is ironic.
Heck yeah been waiting for an oled version on another device other than steam deck that's larger than 7 inches. Asus rog x disappointed me so hope Lenovo legion go 2 has it I'd def buy it
I would go for the unit with a good battery life, like 3 hours on 3A games on low TDP with decent 40-60 fps on low with frame gen, and a high value for the price. The steam one would be great if it's cheap, solid, and performs well. However, Bigger OLED screen and detachable controllers would really be the first choice for me, but not if the price is too high and the battery still weak. I would have bought the LEGO 1 if it wasn't for the weak battery life and a few more shortcomings.
I'm so excited I want the more powerful unit I absolutely can't wait I've had my legion go since it came out day one and I can't wait for these new Z2 extreme chips
I really hope Valve goes the same way of the Steam deck and makes the new Steam Box themselves. Part of the big problem with the Steam Box was that Valve just took some premade PC and slapped their name on it.
I really hope they pass on the savings from windows to the consumer instead of pocketing the extra change and keeping the prices same between the windows and steam versions.
Given the fact that the og legion go is still running around $600, the chip z2 go being lesser, they can't charge anywhere near that. Plus since the go s is newer gen the og go will drop in price. So, that new go s will have to be even lower because it's based on lesser specs. No matter it's release date. So I'd say $299 is fair.
If you dont like it there are other options. I have a legion go and absolutely love it and cant imagine gaming on a smaller screen so i will 100% be getting the Lego 2 because it fits my use case perfectly. Definitely excited
The ryzen Z2 extreme is a rumored 43 percent performance upgrade difference from the Z1 extreme. Literally this is the "real jump" you're asking for. The steam deck oled was no real upgrade from the original LCD deck that's why I skipped the oled version and kept the old one.
@@sourcey6620 First, power is not all, the Steam Deck is very comfortable to play on. Now about the processor, "anemic" is a relative statement. Whether you need more power *now* is all about what games you want to play *now*. I, for example, mostly enjoy indie games for which the SD is more than powerful enough. And I tend to not buy recently released games, I prefer waiting 1-3 years for them to be heavily discounted. AAA games from 2021 run great on the SD. I have so many SD-friendly games in my backlog that the Steam Deck 2 will be released and discounted when I start to need a new machine...
The Legion Go S appears to have a much more ergonomic design compared to the Legion Go 2. The positioning of the analogue sticks on the Legion Go 2 will likely lead to discomfort, as the right hand stick is situated almost directly below the face buttons and is too close to the hand grip. Both hand grips should have been an inch wider with offset stick spacing. The Zotac Zone has much better stick placement. When your spending $700+ you don't want to compromise on comfort.
The same guy that leaked the AMD Lilac from the "Steam machine/console" said later that the its just an board used for testing cpus/apus, so ignore the "benchmarks"
I'm a console gamer and I can't wait to get into PC gaming but don't have one, I want a PC handheld so I'm gonna wait until next year, I hope the Legion Go 2 is gonna have at least an 80whr battery
Yeah I'd love to have access to something along the levels of a 680M in a handheld for a budget handheld price. It doesn't need to be as cheap as a steamdeck, but it should be at least no more than 20%more. For example, the Minisforum UM680 Slim has the same CPU/iGPU and costs $350 with 16GB memory and 1TB storage. I know the rest of it costs a decent chunk too, screens aren't cheap, all the cooling, joysticks, buttons, etc... but if it's more than $500, I fear it'll flop.
I think they should have improved the mouse mode so that the rail on the controller is flat and the sensor is on the inside rail of the controller. That way you can use RB and RT for mouse buttons and use the face buttons as extra mouse buttons. Scroll wheel can stay where it is. Idk why they insist on perfecting this weird vertical mouse thing. It's not good. Just aim for a regular mouse shape and functionality
I want those controllers to be sold separately. For me to buy the new one I'd need to see bigger battery, 2280 ssd as standard, better cooling & more ram.
It’s still rumors but have heard the Legion Go 2 will still have 16gb RAM. Was really hoping for 32gb. I’ll also be watching for the reviews of the MSI Claw 8 AI+ which will have 32gb of RAM and possibly much improved sound!
Most important, is how much memory it'll have, I mean with 24-32 GB of memory you can allocate more memory to the GPU which will make a lot of difference.
Personally, I'd like to see these handhelds lean into higher specs that include and encourage functionality with an external gpus...i think this approach is the future and until then, its interesting, but they're just testing the waters and taking your money...
I hope the flagship will also have SteamOS collab, that'd just replace my laptop unless Framework ships the 2nd gen amd globally 🤯 Imagine if it has USB4v2 (open TB5 eq.) Though the Linux community will probably pick it up upstream either way :}
Looks amazing, but i just got the Legion Go, im running W11 and BazziteOS dual booted with refind. I did the sintech 4tb 2280 ssd mod. Everything looks good but it sucks thst they are now just showcasing this. i think for me to switch would be that i has to be a 3rd generation Legion go with maybe the Z3 Extreme given how soon i just got the 1st generation. And also waiting for that next generational leap in technology as Gaben stated he is waiting for the Steam Deck 2nd Gen Another is just native Arch Based SteamOS linux distro would be awesome and also dedicated eGPU settings with AMD drivers out of the box, no needing to configure, download extra software or change drivers. and finally be able to use 2280 NVME SSDs for upgrade. the legion go is fantastic and i would assume that the 2nd generation will be awesome with the new Z2 Extreme chips and OLED but for me given the circumstances, i will setting for my gen 1 until i sre something absolutely great from lenovo
What they really need to do for the new go's is include oculink. Yeah, usb4 is nice but there's too much loss when using an egpu. Or is tb 5 is good by that point use the equivalent usb c 4.2 or whatever. Something to get at least oculink speeds if not more. Rn your better off getting a oculink device. If your planning on using an egpu.
Anything 6800HS/7735HS based like the Legion Go S should work great with SteamOS as long as it uses somewhat standard control inputs and a supported screen tech Newer APUs dont quite work as reliably. i think the 6800H works better because its still RDNA2 like the Steamdeck. Now in my experience it isnt as seamless as the steamdeck, but far more reliable than the 7840HS or Z1X. Z1X basically requires Bazzite or some other distro of steamOS where as the 6800H generally works with the native SteamOS though it also depends on controls and screen, sometimes sleep and resume dont work Edit, i really hope the GO 2 doesnt use a Z series of APU, that alone would be enough to make me upgrade, even if it was just an 8845HS, really tired of not being 9 months behind on drivers and not able to easily use AMD based external graphics(the least extremely overpriced units if you dont get a PCIe enclosure for USB4/TB4)
Would love to buy a Legion GO 2, but I'm poor and don't even own the original. 🤷♂️ I wish I could go back and have continued saving and bought a Legion GO instead of my Steam Deck LCD tbh.
I want the body of the S with an oled and the latest chip. I don’t care about removable controllers and prefer a more solid compact build like the onexfly
Good to have a comparison on the power, saying it is like 6800u is super helpful. This with a 120hz display and 55W battery, it sounds like close competition to Steam Deck, minus having a Oled, but higher refresh will help. Would the Go S be less powerful than Deck, if they both are Steam handhelds?
If these have the same 50wh battery then it might not be that much of a difference as a smaller battery means lower wattages during typical play sessions. Once 80wh+ becomes standard among z2 powered handhelds then the ally x can be considered out of date.
Ally X improved on a few things, like battery, ports, RAM and SSD, however Z1 was already outdated when ALLY X came out, and the screen as well. Anyways, if you enjoy playing on it, it was worth it because you still got months if not years of happiness on that piece of hardware. Don't look at the neighbors grass, technology moves fast.
i think those leaks are pretty much lenovo pleading for us not to smash the piggy bank on a handheld and get something helse for Christmas, because they'll at best revealing their products in late december or January and won't really be ready for Christmas.
Shame it wouldn't have detachable controls or a bigger screen. This just directly competes with the Steam Deck instead of offering something unique like the original Legion Go.
@Beryesa. That's fine, I love the fact it runs Linux. But it doesn't exactly offer anything unique anymore, which is a shame because of how unique the Legion Go was with its large screen and detachable controllers. If it's got the 680m it's not much of an upgrade over the Steam Deck OLED, definitely not when it comes to battery, so it's more like what's the point?
I am about too pull the triger on the ROG Ally X for Christmas... How patient should and can i be 😂.. Hoping the new handhelds are delayed for Australia release lol .... What to do haha
I hope They will release in Q1 2025,i mean a really" want to buy a handheld pc so i wil saving for it but If they release new product i hope they release quickly
Looks nice but honestly after the steam deck I'm never getting another 16:10 handheld the inconvenience while docking because of it is the only thing I hate about the deck
I've been dreaming getting Lenovo Legion Go since it's launch fall 2023 over a year ago because it's the best handheld gaming PC with 8" screen and a removable controllers, but if there's really coming even 2 Legion Go handhelds Legion Go S and Legion Go 2 only if Legion Go 2 is having an OLED that will be my choice yes these handhelds move too quickly, but can't wait i'm so excited for 2025 handhelds Lenovo Legion Go and defienitily Nintendo Switch 2: Here we goo wahoo! 😆❤
It's supposed to be removed when in FPS mode, otherwise it kinda protrudes. Inside the case just right of the FPS base/stand is a small holder to put the right thumb stick in, so you don't lose it. Took me a month to figure it out. ✅️
You also want to turn the track pad off on the right controller because if you play a game and accidentally touch the mouse input, it thinks you want to use a keyboard and mouse instead of the the controller. Steam also thinks the Lego is an Xbox, menu buttons n all, but the feel of the controls feels like Playstation. It's brilliant. I'm a truck driver, so I also use mines as a GPS device, and for logging my driving hour software. I never regret buying it.
I'm Excited for the Legion Go 2.
So am I

Steam OS is such a game changer for PC handhelds. Kudos to Valve for making it available on other brands
The beauty of Open Source is that Valve lose nothing by doing so. The more handheld PC OEMs who opt to use SteamOS, the better it is for Valve.

How many teraflops of the new Z2 extreme ?
My eyes hurt from OLED, at age 35+ this become a problem for me, but probably good for everybody else?
I've been dreaming getting Lenovo Legion Go since it's launch fall 2023 over a year ago because it's the best handheld gaming PC with 8" screen and a removable controllers, but if there's really coming even 2 Legion Go handhelds Legion Go S and Legion Go 2 only if Legion Go 2 is having an OLED that will be my choice yes these handhelds move too quickly, but can't wait i'm so excited for 2025 handhelds Lenovo Legion Go and defienitily Nintendo Switch 2: Here we goo wahoo! 😆❤
I just want to know if it will run the Witcher 4 1080p 60fps
I hope at least 80wh battery for the new one
4:57 right thumb stick?
@SoloCrimeWave oh my goodness that us so cool, and definitely a use case I never expected! Thank you for the information sir.
If they will update the new Handhelds every 6 to 7 months like they do with the legion go, then it's better not to release anything.
