- But someone has to do it! Here we are spreading cow manure, or slurry, or muck, depending on where you live.
We are using a 1974 Massey Ferguson 1135 tractor. It's rated at 120hp PTO and weighs in at about 13,500lbs. It's pulling a Gehl spreader which is actually designed for spreading solids, but the pit is newly constructed and at the time of the video we had not yet purchased a tanker or tank type spreader.
The pit that contains the cow manure is 90ft in diameter and is 12ft deep, most of it is concealed under ground. This works out to about 570,000 gallons of liquid manure!
We haul it out to our fields in the spreader and apply it to our growing crops. This helps them to grow, which cuts down on the need for fertilizer and in some cases can work better anyway.

Should be interesting how that plays out, and what the compensation package will look like. I’m sure as usual the liberal government will find a way to give the farmers nothing while simultaneously making the rest of the country think they did us a huge favour, just like CPTPP all over again only worse.

You can't beat letting gravity do most of the work for you, it doesn't break down. Drawbacks? Something gets stuck in the valve or some little toe-rag comes round in the dark and opens it for you!!!

I suppose there would have to be gas in it but it’s not noticeable. Could certainly extract biogas from it if you wanted to go that route.
I meant toxic gas like amonia and methane, but open air probably helps.

The gas is methane gas and is called bio-gas which can be used for heating , it lights like ordinary gas only little smelly of course you can filter the smell by absorption techniques , you can use the gas for running an 24 hours electric generator depending on the amount of daily gas production. The waste comes out of the pit automatically by the gas pressure during the gas production cycle. In case you wants more information about gobar gas production technique , either you can google the "gobar gas" or give me an email address I will send you some electronic books for your information.
The waste product is disintegrated compost which is very useful for agriculture use.
The waste can be loaded into your present truck add some water inside the truck to liquefy the waste and do the same thing what you do for spreading the animal waste. with less smell than fresh waste.

As long as it's fairly dry no problems. Just needs duals. 120hp 12,500lbs plenty big. Pull different spreader now, much bigger and heavier.

No, that’s not really a thing here in Canada like it is in other countries.
Such a large volume, seems like it would supply all your energy needs and have a surplus too.
