    I can't believe I have not commented on this one already. I have one of these lights and it seems to be the one I grab first for many things while shooting narrative films. Whether I need saturated red for horror film scenes (here comes Freddy), or a warm key light to bring up a room while also getting good exposure through a window on a sunny day, this is the light I often find myself reaching for first. The softbox is just awesome and convenient. After finishing one scene I can quickly adjust this light for the needs of the next scene without having to break out another light and stand. Push a button, turn a knob or two, and it gives me the light I need, in the temperature or color, no matter the requirement. It is also bright for indoor scenes when needed. Also being battery powered as well has been a life saver.
    When mine came the mounting bracket had teeth where the two halves meshed, so there is positive locking of the angles I set without any falling or unwanted movement.
    I agree where the spigot screws into the 1/4-20 hole that something could be improved. I have the thumb screw on the spigot really tight so that I can use the mounting bracket to turn the threads into the light tightly as well. If this is not pretty tight the light fixture can end up rotating and loosening itself on the threads.
    All that being said, I absolutely love this light. I have so many uses for the light and colors it puts out, as well as being able to depend on it where there is no household current available by using batteries. The icing on the cake is its ability to CHARGE batteries as well. This too has been a life saver.
    By the way, your costume is perfect in this. Such a classic look, very well executed. You should do something else with that costume. I'd like to see more.

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  Год назад +1

      True, it really is a great light :D
      I use it constantly for my RUclips studio space.
      And the costume was fun, I'll have to see if it makes a comeback at some point :p

    Love the Carmen! Have had a P60c a few weeks. Agree entirely about the fiddly swivel mount, but it's an easy fix. Replace the weak Aputure swivel with the far superior Manfrotto swivel adapter, part # 026.
    But the 1/4 20 problem remains, and it's not good. It was not fixed in the production versions. Maybe threadlock? They should have used or optionally offered a yoke with standard baby pin. Since the light has 1/4 20s on both sides, Aputure could make a yoke specifically for this light and really need to.
    Yoke us Aputure.

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  2 года назад +2

      Happy you enjoyed the cameo by Carmen!
      And agreed, it needed more thought put into it for sure! Hoping they do something about it. The design on the yoke for their newly released 60d/x is much better

    • @Trevellian
      @Trevellian 2 года назад +1

      @@FellowFilmmaker Agree. Have the 60x as well. That style yoke is exactly what Aputure should have made for the 60c. My use for the P60c is gelling backgrounds, which along with Aputure's app, makes for rapid set redressing. And where did you find a red, Carmen trenchcoat?

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  2 года назад +1

      Agreed, I wish that p60c had the newer version.
      And I found the trenchcoat at Macy's I think :D Just looked really cool and wanted to use it for projects as a whole, so it worked out for Carmen

    Mount the yoke upside down so the Aputure logo is pointing downward and it won't slouch. :) That secret menu was probably not for the public to know about but so that they could quality test. Still, having control over the R,G,B,W and C is a huge plus if you don't want to spend the time dialing in HSI mode.

    I have found most desktop PCs tend to be louder than the panel's fans, so if you hear anything in a streaming setup, or product demo video, it will probably be the former. This is about twice the price of three GVM 800Ds I looked at, though given the cost of a good key light, the P60C's list of features seem reasonble. The only thing I might gripe about, possibly, is no DMX option.
    As to the lack of carry handles, they could either make a pair of them or, better yet, a cradle that supports a barn door attachment. This could also facilitate alternative mounts than a tripod - such as rail mounting for overhead use.

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  2 года назад

    We know who let the secret out! Have always been lectured that LED panels don't do as well as COBs under a modifier, but the P60C seems to be a brilliant, creative option for a multitude of uses. BTW, how bright is the light coming out of the softbox for a key light? Is that comparable to the likes of ML60bi given that the panel has a fabulous brightness rating?

    I think Aputure made this light too good for the price. I live in the UK and you can't find this light anywhere. Unfortunately I had to send mine back for a common Bluetooth issue about a month back. But I think Aputure are shifting to the F22/21 and tubes that are perhaps cheaper to make. What do you think?

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  Год назад +1

      I believe Aputure is making the Amaran line to appeal to a wider audience while their premium line (Aputure Lighting series) is for pro filmmakers. So it makes sense why the Amaran line is cheaper and lesser in quality parts so that it's affordable to many people.

    Great video.
    Quick question: Is say, a set of 3 of these lights powerful enough to light a drumset for a stream?
    I keep going back and forth on this with a friend who insists I need fresnels, but I REALLY don't want the bulk...
    I want THIS. Something small that packs in a bag that it comes with.
    But, if it's not strong enough to light my drums... Then I can't use it.
    I should give you some dimensions, right. The area they occupy is about 5m x 3.5m
    Thanks in advance!

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  2 года назад +1

      Three of these will light up a space like that enough. A fresnel is only helpful if you want hard light. If you want more even lighting in a space these panel lights are great. If you want directional lighting you'll want a single source light with a diffusor if you don't want it to be hard light. Hard light is strong and bright, but often times not flattering as it creates hard shadows.
