All different types of aircraft have their negative characteristics, but in my opinion that has got to be the safest Category of aircraft in existence today, provided it is maintained correctly, and that one is hyper aware of not stalling out a wing tip during steep turns at low airspeeds, such as in not paying attention and letting the airspeed drop off while turning downwind. Flown helicopters for many years, never been a fan of fixed wing flight, but this machine is very impressive! Looks like an affordable and safer way to own a machine for one to privately get their helicopter-like low level slow flight fix.

I just noticed the loose hang-in bracket that slides some distance along the keel tube. Ref. 2:37 m. Is this done deliberately and if so why ? Seems a little scary to me. Otherwise a fine illustrative video.
Yes it’s a sliding hang bracket like all of our trikes use. The forward position is used on the ground to statically balance the wing so the control bar is weightless and the aft position is the dynamic position during flight. Also the forward position allows the wing tips to drop lower to the ground when folded for more compact storage.

Thank you! Yes it would be possible to takeoff down the hill, however the glide ratio on the REV X is quite poor compared to a Hang Gliding so just like a Cessna when you shut the engine off you better start looking for a place to land. With that said there is no more efficient way to get more range out of the rev X by turning the motor on and off, you’re better off just getting to its most efficient form which is called best lift over drag And fly with a steady power setting. Lastly, the motor has no use for stall recovery or flying in general. It only makes the aircraft go up or stay up but does not help it fly. And that was the point of this video is that the aircraft flies perfectly with the motor off.

The sliding hang block moves the CG forward when static (on the ground) to balance the wing and to lower the wingtips when folded for minimum height of 5’6” when folded. The hang block moves back when the wing created lift to trim at its designed trim speed in the air. Also available (usually on our high performance wings) is an electric actuator which allows the pilot to trim or move the hang block in flight with a switch to change trim speeds. Some of our wings have a 50 mph hands off trimable speed range
So in many cases the wing is actually smaller than a hang glider with a stall speed 3X higher. But take the typical weight of a hang glider wing of around 60lbs and these wings generally weigh from 90-130lbs with up to 5 times the gross weight capacity. So there is a big difference in strength, but not size.

We all do.. from trikes to A380s. I fly GA and the only time we use power is to prevent sink below the glide path or if for some reason we have to make as shallow approach and need to reduce the vertical rate a little. If you are are set up correctly and know your wind you can just pull the power and ride it to the ground. The last 10 miles in an airliner is usually with throttles at idle. I love recreational flying in light aircraft but i think i i need to try this.. It's as close to being an Eagle as you're gonna get.
They are very draggy so you can come in hot without too much ground roll. But these approaches are still in the 50 MPH range and touching down around 30 MPH which is slower than most slow airplanes.
Sadly, we're just not there with batteries yet. However, the new solid state batteries may be able to provide enough power for their weight, but that technology is 5 to 10 years away. There are a few weight shift trikes that run off of Lithium Batteries. I understand the maximum run time is 20 to 30 minutes. The new solid state batteries will increase the time to about 50 to 75 minutes.

Brian Fox yes, twist grip usually. But there are other options. For 1 leg we switch the throttle to the good leg and lock the steering usually and make the steering electric.

We have a 103 version of the REV and we can absolutely set it up for 1 or no legs as we have done in the past with other models.
