Hey everyone - welcome to my new video.
In my in-depth review of Ratchet & Clank I talk about my experience of replaying this game for the seventh time. Does it still hold up after 20 years?
Ratchet & Clank was developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2 in the year 2002. The HD Version on PS3 was released in 2012.

Ratchet & Clank is such a classic game and I love seeing other people cover and talk about the original trilogy of games, especially if they played the games back in the 2000s. Me personally, I was like you where I didn't play the game when it first came out but mainly because I was hardly ever home and I didn't get around to playing the game until 2003 though I didn't beat the game because I got stuck in Planet Rilgar where you have to escape the sinking facility in under a time limit lol. I lost so many times that I gave up and just went to playing Going Commando and if I remember correctly, I beat Going Commando and then went back to the first game and managed to beat it lol.
Ratchet & Clank is one of the games that ALWAYS makes me nostalgic for simpler times, just playing these games while in school and in my case, it fueled my imagination to continue with my hobby of drawing and I would draw fanart after playing through a level and taking a break. It was so relaxing in a way even if I was having trouble in some of the levels haha.
On the Ryno, I eventually was able to get it, I think it took me like 3 or 4 playthroughs until I finally had enough bolts, to buy it. I think in my third playthrough, to get the extra remaining bolts I needed, I just kept playing the hoverboard races over and over again until I finally had enough to buy it LOL It was tedious but it worked in the end and lemme tell you, the RyNO is awesome LOL It's definitely very overpowered, it clears rooms in seconds and makes the final boss fight against Drek be wrapped up very quickly compared to playing the boss battle straight as intended haha.
I'm also not ashamed to say that while I love most of the music from the PS2 era of Ratchet & Clank (Seriously David Bergeaud is an awesome composer), I think the first Ratchet & Clank OST is the best of the original trilogy. So many memorable songs and awesome experimental music. Again, Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal have great soundtracks as well but there's something about the first game's that hits all the right notes in my opinion.
Overall, I know that people say that the first game "aged terribly" but I honestly don't believe so. Because of InsomanicGames experience with the Spyro games, they managed to make Ratchet feel decent and controlled. He may feel somewhat slippery but it works for the environments since they don't have lots of gaps in it. And sure the weapons may feel obsolete and primitive when you play the games post R&C1 but that's not a bad thing to me neither because the way I see it, the oriiginal Ratchet & Clan plays like a traditional 3D Platformer with shooter elements, and I'm more than fine with that for sure. And it sucks that the 2016 reboot failed to capture the magic that the original game had.
Thanks for the awesome comment! I agree 100%. I too prefer the music in the first game over the second. It has been too long since I played Up Your Arsenal, so I don't remember the music from that game.
I like the 2016 reboot, but I agree that it didn't have the same magic as the original.
@@GFrom Yeah like don't get me wrong, all the music is good in these early games but there's just something about the first that felt the most experimental compared to the others and that's what I can't help but love lol.
And yeah that's fair. I wish I could like the 2016 reboot but it just did so many things that really annoyed me both narratively and game playing...
Great game, love this series. My favorites are 2 3, tools of destrution a crack in time etc. I loved the bolt glitch and got the ryon gun on my first play through.
The flame thrower makes short work of amoeboids, I love the first game, every weapon is useful in specific situations, because you can't strafe you can't just relay on projectile weapons like you can in the squeals
Strafing sure changes everything. I prefer the controls in the sequels, but I see your point about the usefulness of the weapons in the original.
This is a really good review. Makes me want to try the game for the first time. Congrats for the superb vídeo!
Thank you, I'm glad to hear that :) I hope you'll like the game!
Richtig geiles Video.
Just off from ur Tekken Tag review... you seem to have become my fave reviewer
Wow, that's awesome 😊
The gaspar soundtrack kinda sounds like it's from tekken 3, not a bad thing though
hahaaa finally another inverted gamer
The rhino gun is a machine gun that has a capacity og 1000 ammo and it's insane but not worth it in my opinion
Good video
Thank you!
@@GFrom you welcome I was worried that you would keep making sonic videos instead of other games but you surprised me
I'm passionate about Sonic. Not everyone will care about every game I review and that's fine. I just hope that someday people watch my videos because they like my stuff and not just because of a particular game(-series) I cover. I know there are many Tomb Raider enthusiasts among my subscribers, but I don't want this to become a TR channel because for me it gets boring to talk about the same stuff all the time. The TR videos are the most time consuming videos for me. But good news: Season 3 will start with a TR video ✌ More updates about that when I'm ready.
@@GFrom oh I'm excited
@@GFrom I'm not saying your channel is all about TR it's just there's too many sonic videos not any room for other game review
The problem with the remake is that itbremoves too much stuff
Do you like gtasa more than ratchet and clank?
GTA San Andreas is like my second favourite game of all time. So yeah, definetly
@@GFrom I wonder if that's your next review
No, I have no intention of reviewing GTA games any time soon. Maybe somewhere down the line, who knows
@@GFrom I understand GTA is very non linear and it's hard to fully review
Yeah exactly. It doesn't really fit with what I do now.
