I was never able to get the full experience, because I sucked at the Blue Spheres (and still do). So, I generally played Sonic 2 and Sonic 2 and Knuckles.
    Great video!

Hi man loved this review as well as the Sonic 3. Great games. Also appreciate seeing a fellow European fan, who says mega drive instead of genesis and more crucially Robotnik instead of Eggman ha

A note on the origins tracks, they were the original songs before michael jackson hopped on, and Jun senoue was tasked with arranging them for origins, and if you listen to the prototype versions they sound miles better than the origins versions.
Also if you're willing to hop on the pc bandwagon, there's Sonic 3 AIR, which is a PC port of the game which adds so many quality of life updates, customization options, widescreen, in game achievements with unlockables, and mod support.

back in 2007 me and my friend were dying to find this cartridge for our genesis, we were so ignorant that the world had the xbox 360 and ps3 (not to mention emulators) and we thought genesis was the shit. My god innocent times...

Was looking forward to this one.
Like you said with Sonic 3, I hated that the Super Sonic theme is basically the title screen theme on an endless loop. I used to wish as a kid sometimes it would just stay as the Act's actual theme.
Sandopolis Act 2 lol I wouldn't say scared is the right way I'd describe my experience, but I was always ready to be done with those levels as it was.
I def preferred Sonic 3 over S&K. Still, even back then it seemed clear, when linking them up, it was always meant to be played together, which makes it a much longer overall experience, which was definitely something cool to witness back then. Still, I wish some of the Sonic 3 themes that are replaced when linked were left alone at least.
The limitations of Knuckles jump... LOL I know how you feel. It def took some getting used to.

I can't tell you how amazing I found the lock-on technology as a kid, nor how profound it was to see an actual story being told between levels in a way my imagination conjured for the first two games. It was my favourite game for a long time and having replayed it recently in the Origins package, it still holds up. Mania gives it a run for the money tho

S3&K is part of a handful of games that had a huge impact on me and my passion for gaming. It was my go to Sega game and I would do stuff like fill all the save files with fully cleared games just to see if I could, and I did, and it indeed looked amazing. Id like to add that I think the flying battery sounds are off on your end. It shouldnt sound THAT choppy.
I am just a bit into this review so I look forward to this! Thanks you a ton for the review :)
    I love your stuff!

Dude I can relate that you couldn't beat that Sandpolis stage in Sonic & Knux because I'm comparing this to when recently in 2022 I've completed Tomb Raider 1 for the first time in my life and I loved every minute of it and it felt so great finally being able to beat this game and my fears of the game being too hard were greatly overexaggerated since It was mostly easy. It's the later tombraider games where I got my hate and thoughts that TR games were just impossible, Only old school TR game I owned fully was TR2 and I could only beat it with cheat codes only.
With the upcoming HD remasters I will finally complete TR 2 and 3 for the first time and live stream my wins. few months ago I did buy all the old TR games for PC and PSvita but I've decided to wait till im done with the HD remasters on PC steam n switch then I'll get to beating TR4 n 5 for the first time.
I've beaten all TR games from angel of darkness to survivor era as those games tho they had some issues, the adventures was actually shorter and easier to understand for me.

This was a good video and a great review. I respect the fact that it's reviewed in your own personal reflection and experiences of the game from back in the day but dude you shouldn't be showing the Origins version when reviewing the original Mega Drive version. Why not show footage from the original 1994 game? The Sonic Origins versions are flawed messes and are inferior games, even with the latest Plus content they didn't fix all the bugs and even created some new ones. Apparently Sonic 1 crashes when playing as Tails in Labyrinth Zone. I still love this review and have enjoyed all of them so far. My favourite level from this game is indeed Sandopolis Zone. I like the Minor Boss theme better than Sonic 3's too.

I know what you mean. I only bought the Mega Drive Originals a few months ago, long after I had recorded the Origins Footage. The main problem is, that my Mega Drive doesn't work that great anymore. It takes forever to get the games to work and even then it crashes a lot :/ But I only showed Origins Footage for the Lock-On-Content and it gave me the chance to say a few words about it, so I wouldn't say I regret my choice. Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated!

@@GFrom I apologise because the first time I watched this video was on a CRT TV through a USB stick and my telly doesn't have wide screen so I wasn't able to see the bottom left text you had up properly and my kids were screaming in the background when I was trying to watch it so I couldn't give the video my full attention. But when I watched the video again upstairs I noticed that you did use the Mega Drive original for footage up until the last 10 minutes of the video so I am sorry for the accusation. It is a great video and one that I will be watching a lot of. Keep up the great work GFROM!
Sounds like your Mega Drive might need a clean?

I actually think S&K holds up a lot closer to Sonic 3 than you do, a little inferior but not by that much. I'd definitely (treating the two games individually here) have Sonic 2, 3, and S&K in some order as the top three and Sonic's 1 and CD would be quite a distance below them all.
Since you mentioned Sonic Mania at the end, would it rank at least top three on the 2D games list?

    • @GFrom
      @GFrom  7 месяцев назад

I hold 1 and CD in high regards, so it looks more drastic than it actually is.
Mania is my favourite game of all time - period. It used to be GTA San Andreas.
