When i first heard this - I thought it was Knopfler. The melodic runs and tone its beautiful. His use of subtle notes is perfect. Mike Rhoads energy in this performance is exceptional too - another talented soul gone - hes now up in the big sky rockin with the some of the best ever!! RIP
Guthrie has a fresh sound . Definitely a true talent. In a sea of nameless faces that comprises the Nashville scene this guy is a standout. Great composition
Just a stellar composition and execution of it. Guthrie's been one of my all time favorites for a while now. He never ceases to surprise me with his boundless technique, feel...and creatively where he takes things. He's an original!!! Keep goin' Guthrie, keep goin'!!! By the way, the June 2018 issue of Premier Guitar Magazine has an interview with Guthrie Trapp AND Ry Cooder!!!
Guthrie has moved the ball even further down the field. Spectacular picking. Probably my favorite instrumental of all time. Kudos also to Mikey and the drummer. Monsters.
+john b I know what you mean I didn't hear about him until maybe a couple of years ago, and this is now (2018), and he's one of the hottest players in Nashville. I'm about (165) miles from Nashville, have always loved country music and have always tried to learn to play like favorites (hasn't worked yet). I've always kind of watched the new guys come on the scene, but Guthrie flew under the radar...somehow. It takes a special kinda player to make you hear exactly what he's feeling, so completely. No teacher, or any amount of music theory knowledge can get someone to play like that. You're born with it.
Great sound.....never heard before. The bass player, Michael Rhodes, is great. He has played with everybody! Has been bass player for Joe Bonamassa for years now, Michael Rhodes. This was good, thanks.
wow! a legit melody with an actual song structure?!? that's a rare commodity among guitar players!!! excellent in every regard. obviously Hellacaster-influenced, and that's awesome in my book. Love it.
i don't disagree at all, certainly some EJ influence in this, but also check out the Hellecasters' Back on Terra Firma (live in 2012 is a nice recording) and you'll see where i was coming from :) Guthrie is fantastic in every regard and i'm a huge fan
Had the pleasure of sitting down with guthrie for an hour and do a private lesson. What a great all around guy. And in the same week saw Mike Rhodes play with the Mike Henderson band. nashville rocks
+Jipes Blues ça c'est drôle, j'aurais dis la même chose et je m'appelle aussi jipé ou jip mais je joue sur une strat. ceci dit dont on se fout royalement, il faut dire que ce Guthrie envoie du lourd.
yeah, I caught that... sure did... shows the concentration he had on his playing... he had only one intent, keep layin' that beat down and add those hits right where they're needed...! ;-)
Guthrie often talks about not knowing much music theory, but why would he even want to? I know quite a bit of theory, but it doesn't help me to play anything half as good as Guthrie. That guy is amazing! There's a big difference in just learning to play a song, and having your emotions flow from your fingers. I've been thinking about getting his 'Artist Works' course. Anyone here enrolled in it?
I think comparing players to other players is just stupid, especially when players cross years or decades or even genre's. That idea shows a complete ignorance of music and talent. Each player has their own story, as does Guthrie. He speaks to everyone on a different plane of experience no matter where you come from. Some get it and some don't. In the end, all that matters is listen to the artists and music that speaks to and inspires you no matter where you're at in your musical journey. As for me as a 53 y.o., player who started at 12 y.o. Guthrie has inspired me to pick up the guitar again and finally dig into learning after laying off for over 15 years of frustration and plateau. That's the inspiration I speak of, my friends. Just play something, everyday.
After a performance of that magnitude someone leaves a LOW Brow comment. Why not support fellow musicians? He is accomplished and playing a very difficult song. That's a person not a stepping stone to provide you with a smirk. I would love to feel the emtion he must have through the set. Nothing personal but come on dude, would it be diff if we commented on your uploads to you tube.
I don't think it was low brow at all, he didn't say anything about his playing. He can be just as good a bass player from 2 feet away as he can from 2 inches away from his face.
That is Michale Rhodes. Country Music Academy Bassist Of The Year. Plays with Vince Gill, Nashville's The Players, on tons of Nashville hits. Who do you play with?

Mike Rhoads is kind of a Mike Rhodes though.
Unbelievable command without being showy. Melodic, soulful, creative, just a wonderful musician.
Fantastic!! Love it when music comes alive! Kenny and Guthrie and then band were phenomenal! Thank you!!

Apparently not
Very Eric Johnson sounding to me.
@Nikos Antikythera nope Eric Johnson tone and phrasing
perfect example of 3 players totally in synch w/ each other on all levels...a real treat
Man, everything I see by Trapp just makes me smile. What a monster player and as musical as they get. Does this guy even have any limits?
RIP, Mr. Rhodes, you will be missed!

silver_ surfer14 there's quite a healthy bit of delay and reverb in there so........
Guthrie has a killer pedal board.

What an amazing trio!
3:45-- 3:52 secs....you can literally see their BRAINS working!! Magic here... unbelievable musicianship
What a great find this guy was.
Great sound.....never heard before. The bass player, Michael Rhodes, is great. He has played with everybody! Has been bass player for Joe Bonamassa for years now, Michael Rhodes. This was good, thanks.
The way they speak volumes just by the way they look at one another is an art in of itself.
Excellent tune! Great guitar taste and tone and the bass and drums are extremely solid...Wow!
Amazing guitar player!
Melodic, musical, and very tasty, playing by all
Think I've watched this 20 times in the past 3 days. Just fantastic playing, tone and song.
Just got the news that Rhodes passed. May he RIP. He will be missed!
One of the best guitar vids I'v seen on YT during last weeks.
I gotta wonder how there are 11 people on this planet who didn't like this!
What a fantastic sounding trio. All three of them...just plain tight. A great example of less is more.
Love Guthrie's playing style!!
Songs should take you on a Journey............. like this sweet song......great work G
Just great work!!!
Great!
Wow. Awesome.
wow! a legit melody with an actual song structure?!? that's a rare commodity among guitar players!!! excellent in every regard. obviously Hellacaster-influenced, and that's awesome in my book. Love it.
Hellcaster? I was thinking more like Eric Johnson on this particular tune.
i don't disagree at all, certainly some EJ influence in this, but also check out the Hellecasters' Back on Terra Firma (live in 2012 is a nice recording) and you'll see where i was coming from :)
Guthrie is fantastic in every regard and i'm a huge fan

My favorite Guthrie tune so far. Any chance he'll do a reveal of this tune in a RUclips lesson? ;-)
amazing

+John Sharp Yes John you're right strat or Tele Mr Trapp is a real artist !
Wow!!!

Sick!
WTF!! This guy is monstrous good.
When i grow up, I want to be Mr Rhodes. Great stuff here.
Yo bro

Great rhythm section also.
Great chord quality
Did the drummer hit his own baseball hat at 3:00 :)
Yes XD
I noticed that too!
yeah, I caught that... sure did... shows the concentration he had on his playing... he had only one intent, keep layin' that beat down and add those hits right where they're needed...! ;-)
@@GlennMarshallRocks Who is the drummer, he's fantastic!
@@peterallen1041 That's Pete Abbott on Drums and Michael Rhodes on bass.
I was thinking Eric Johnson also. whatever style... still fucking BEAUTIFUL.

Pete with a hat trick at 3:05
Pretty good
+Frank Rische Pretty good???? LOL
@fluffybunny brains : you'd have to know Michael to understand. One of the best personalities in town. And one hellava player.
RIP Michael Rhodes.
Rhodes craves eye contact... LOL. AWESOME!
Kinda creepy

Cheer~~~a raw material or primary agricultural product that can be bought and sold, such as copper or coffee.😊
That's some legit shit boys and girls!
3:03 Drummer hits bill of hat with stick.
TELEMIESTER!
Great playing and music!!!
Sorry, but I have to weigh in on the issues-with-personal-space end of things though. More than a little distracting.
Totally agree! very creepy!
unreal, great tone. felt like I got hit by a Mack truck at three miles a hour.
Jose Vidal -best reply I’ve ever seen! 👍🏻👍🏻
What is the bass player on?
Grab a singer & write some songs next!
Drummer at 3:04...adjusts hat and hits crash. That's the Nashville way.
They sure are all speaking the same language.
Guthrie is a bad dude ,.and so are the other guys
That bass player has some personal space issues.
