As someone who owns a horse with white feathers I can promise you the only time you can actually tell he has socks is right after a bath. Other than that they’re stained by grass, dirt, and manure. The staining on her legs made me giggle because it’s exhaustingly accurate.

I’ve found that grinding your own pastels can make it more likely to be grainy because they don’t get as fine as panpastels or earth pigments do. It really made a difference for me in the long run. I have never used your sealant before but I know some matte sealants are more likely to cause a grainy texture than satin or glossy ones. I use krylon matte finish but I don’t necessarily love it (sometimes cracks) but it isn’t grainy at all and is cheap.
This model is so gorgeous and you did such a good job on her. I’m jealous of how great you were at getting a smooth acrylic layer and those dapples are stunning!

Hey Daisy. I know you were having trouble getting a nice bright shade out of the pastels. I think I have a solution. Try applying and spreading the pastel on with a Q Tip. It doesn't cause the particles to fall off. That is why its so grainy. Brushes push it back off so you don't get a good shade. I dab it on with one side of the Q tip and then use the other side to gently spread it around. You also don't have to apply as many layers. You can also use eraser to take it off. I have been using this technique with my Schleich for a while since they have the hair texture on them and getting in the deep hair grooves is hard. It especially works on smooth surfaces. You should give it a try.

Very cute! As far as cast flaws go, there are different qualities in casting resins. A good casting will have very few flaws, so I've learned which resins typically have bad quality and to avoid them because of the hassle of prepping. Rio Rondo's casts are very nice, if you order one you'll see the difference.
