Sonora was my Aunt, and I’m now seeing these videos for the first time. She was retired by the time I was born, and while I never saw a show, she told vivid stories of her life and her performing years and beyond. My dad was the baby brother she tried to trade for a horse. He and his siblings all had pretty amazing stories of their adventures.

Ditto! However, I did get to see the show in the 70's - dad and I went to watch the divers
with Aunt Sonora, Aunt Arnette and Lorena Carver was there too.

I'm in Valdosta GA and have some Webster's from Waycross in my family tree. I highly doubt it's the same family tho we are less than 2 hours from Waycross

Not many blacks were welcomed at this show in atlantic city when my great grandmother was growing up but her and her friends used to go see this. She told me about it before she passed away in public housing in the 90s. She said it was a fun show

Sonora told me that she just didn’t close her eyes in time when she went blind. . Nothing about the horse off balance. The photo of the young girl in pig tails , I feel certain is not Sonora.

Love horse diving videos. I find it another situation of “activists having good intentions and zero knowledge”. Having grown up actually in nature, and around animals, there a so many things people fight for/against that are actually going against their beliefs. In this case, horse diving. If you build a diving board over a pond, and let horses (or pigs) near it, they will dive off into the water, then return to do it again. Similar to humans, then like entertainment. And, as far as horses, entertaining people is also a enjoyable task (pigs are buttholes and will eat you. I hate pigs). So diving in front of a crowd would be highly entertaining for a horse. If they didn’t want to do it, they wouldn’t.
I’ve faced similar issues with environmentalists. I know they want what’s best for nature. But they forget humans have been part of the ecosystem for thousands/millions of years. So sometimes “removing humans entirely” is not the best thing for the environment. Ban hunting of deer, they overpopulate, destroy an ecosystem, and everything dies. Ban clear cuts/underbrush clearing/back burns… there are no fire lines to stop forest fires from spreading. That’s how my family lost our timber farm/home in 2020.

That's why the working class should not have spare money. Because working is dumbing you down.

I mean pretty much every significant artform of the 20th and early 21st century has come from the working classes, but the middle classes gave us Coldplay so there’s that, I suppose.
