    Hullo Charlotte, I have found that when trying to decide if a particular brand of paint is one that might work well as well as bring me joy in painting, is get warm and cool primaries! 6 colors will give you a good idea of how a line of paint will be. If I am still uncertain, I will get some more of my favorite colors. So I have picked a convenience green like Sap Green, an Indigo or Paynes grey, you can get whatever color that might make or break the paints for you! As I have gotten older I find myself using a neutral tint to create neutrals for the colors selected. I have become an advocate of DaVinci Paints of California! Beautiful paints and so reasonably priced that I don’t feel guilty about buying more colors from the company direct! I suppose that getting DaVinci in the UK would be more expensive with international shipping, so sticking with Schminke is a very sweet choice to be able to make! They are a classy company and create great products. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on MaimeriBlu, see ya down the line!

    There is a hype around Maimeri? Who knew! They have been around forever (I live in 🇩🇪 and lived in 🇮🇹 before) and are very traditional watercolours. I have used them for years. In 2018 they reformulated all their colours to be 100% single pigments, which I really enjoy. Their potter's pink is amazing. I do like the green gold, especially as it is a single pigment. It makes excellent mixes. Its an odd choice for a starter mixing set, though. 1:22 ❤ Aquapad! I got an A3 pad and made my own sketch book and blocks. I would add burnt umber or burnt sienna to this set to make some darker warmer colours.

      I’d completely forgotten that 🤦‍♀️ I come from a time when we were drilled that red couldn’t be made by mixing

    That's a really interesting assortment of colors! Green gold is one of my favorite pigments, although this one doesn't look as "clean" as the one by QOR. In thin washes green gold is usually more of a yellow, it's quite useful and versatile.
    I've never tried these watercolors because years ago I figured I'd pick some up on holiday in Italy. Found a little art shop in Venice.. but the owner was incredibly rude and tried to convince me to buy the Venezia (Maimeris student grade line) paint instead of the artist grade one. It was a horrible experience and I kind of forgot about the brand afterwards.

      Yeah it wasn’t quite what I was expecting in terms of range of colours!!
      I love the green gold I have in schmincke, but this one definitely had a dirty look to it at first - once it dried it was lovely though
      Aw I’m so sorry you had that experience, I’m guessing they had a better profit margin with the student range, but they should have let you buy what you want!

    Nice touch with the turquoise! Needs a warm red like PO73 or 71, or maybe a PR209 or 255 or 254

    Interesting paper pad! I find that Clairefontaine is really good quality/value. I use and love their Bristol pads, but haven’t tried their watercolor paper yet. 😸

      Honestly I love it! For the value for money it’s such good quality. Obviously it’s never going to be 100% cotton etc but it’s such lovely paper to work on. I love pastelmat so as soon as I saw it was clairefontaine I had to nab some

    Thank youfor the video.
    I ordered this set yesterday from Cheap Joes cuz on sale. Even with shipping less than Amazon at the moment.
    I find that each of my paint sets respond differently to different paper so I do a sample with a variety to see if I like it. I'm still experiencing to choose a particular paper and paints to be my go to. Though Baohong paper is about my fav. We'll see!!
    Thank you again

    14:05 "Poff" and the magic-cat disapered. I Started painting last summer. (Watercolor) So I subscribed to a lot of YT channels. Started with some cheap colors almost without pigment, hehe but actually got Daniel Smith prime colors now so I can learn to mix. (Just red, yellow and blue.) I love tips and so because I'm more or less a beginner. Do you do any paint along videos? (Sorry for my English, isn't my mother tongue.)

      Magic cat ❤️❤️ love that!!
      So my plan is to do some more tutorial style videos and paint with me videos, so it would be great to see you when I upload those!
      What other water colours have you got? Daniel smith are lovely 😍 are you based in the Uk? You can find winsor and Newton professional very easily there, and make sure you use decent paper.

    You won't be able to mix a good orange, brown or red with these colors. So while this is a nice set, you'd still need a warm-leaning red to make this more complete.

    • @CanvasAndCopper
      @CanvasAndCopper  Год назад

      Luckily I don’t use a lot of those colours, but yes it would be nice to have the red. Would mixing the magenta and yellow create a warm enough red to then mix those?

    • @EugeniaLoli
      @EugeniaLoli Год назад +2

      @@CanvasAndCopper You can try it, but I don't think so. That magenta is on the purple spectrum rather than the red one. That's why Daniel smith and others are using Quinacridone Rose as a primary, and not a magenta. I would personally buy a red for sure, and if I had extra money, I'd get a lemon yellow, a phthalo green and a deep brown, like Mars Brown. Then it's a much more complete palette that can mix a lot more colors. But the red is the most urgent, I'd say.

    • @CanvasAndCopper
      @CanvasAndCopper  Год назад

      @@EugeniaLoli thank you. I have all of those colours in other brands so that’s fine, I’d just managed to find these at a great price and heard good things so decided to grab them 😍

    • @berolinastrassmann
      @berolinastrassmann Месяц назад

      You can mix a red colour with Magenta and Yellow. Maybe not like Pyrrole Red...but you can have a red out of that set.

    • @EugeniaLoli
      @EugeniaLoli Месяц назад

      @@berolinastrassmann Not a good red though. I don't find such palettes that don't include both warm and cool primaries to be complete.
