  • Thanks for tuning in to The Golden State Consumer!
TL;DR - left in rain for 7 minutes, had some water soak through a point in the main compartment's YKK zipper and even through the backpack's outer shell. I’d rate the water resistance a 4 out of 10.

    ----
It's been pretty dry lately but had some rain pass by and thought it was a perfect time to do my first ever water resistance test on a bag - the victim - the new Bellroy Venture Ready Pack 26L.
The quick access pocket fared well, it was a bit damp inside but nothing was soaking wet.
I wouldn't consider this a downpour by any means but it was definitely raining sideways. In fact, the rain was predominantly hitting the right side of the bag which is where the water soaked right through the bag and into the main compartment's "water bottle" pocket where I keep my external battery.
Inside the main compartment, the top zip pocket was soaked. There must've been a weak point in the main compartment's YKK zipper because a significant amount of water got inside and completely soaked that internal top zippered pocket. And no, it wasn't from a gap between the zippers because I had those off to the side.
I had a pouch and deck of cards in there that were soaked.
The laptop compartment was safe, some water got in along the outline of the compartment but my @Nedrelow laptop sleeve was completely dry.
Setting the bag on the ground right away probably caused the water to soak through the bottom which got my snack pouch really wet.
I’d rate the water resistance a 4 out of 10.. it definitely wasn’t raining too hard yet a good amount of water got inside the bag and made the contents inside pretty wet but the laptop compartment stayed dry.
I’ve had bags (peak design every day bag 20L) that withstood a downpour in Amsterdam for longer than 10 minutes while I waited for an Uber. Some water got inside through the seams at the top of that bag, but all of the contents inside were completely dry.
Let me know if you guys found this video helpful!
I’ll have another video of this pack posted soon where I had an issue with the straps.

Oof, thanks for setting your pack out in the rain so we didn't have to. That's a staggering amount of dampness on the inside of the backpack. I was betting the quick access pocket would be the worst but apparently no. That could ruin some people's electronics real quick. I know this was advertised as an outdoorsy kind of pack but did it mention resistance to water? I can't recall.
Looking forward to your other videos on this!

They did mention water resistant material and zippers. I was also quite surprised the front quick access pocket was relatively dry.. I mean it was damp, but not as wet as the main compartment.
      Thanks so much for watching!

Good thing rain covers for bags exist, and are widely available. Still a nice bag, especially at a discount price. Right now you can get one for $200 CAD on sale.

Hey thanks for watching! It's a shame really..
Did you also have the strap twisting issue? I was willing to look past the poor water resistance and solely use this as a work pack, but the strap issue was driving me crazy, it got stuck while I was at the airport so I had to sling it over one shoulder while going to my gate. It was fully packed out so that really hurt my shoulder 🥴

Great looking and well made pack but... For outdoor use in the real world? Simply unacceptable. Although to be fair, they're aren't many light weight packs that can resist water ingress.

Hey thanks for watching! I couldn't agree more. I held on to this bag for as long as I could because I loved the look and weight of the bag.
Unfortunately the poor water resistance wasn't the biggest issue for me, it was the twisting straps!
If you see my bellroy strap issue video ruclips.net/video/MTVFlCY6nXQ/видео.html this would happen quite frequently. So bad actually at a recent trip that I had to use one strap while in line at the airport gate cause I could not get it untangled 🤦🏽‍♂

Agreed! But I’ve been caught in a downpour in my Aer fit pack 2 for more than 10 minutes with zero water ingress. The fit pack 2 also doesn’t have ykk zippers aside from the front compartment.
My coworkers old timbuk2 (no ykk zips at all) also didn’t have any issues with water ingress.
