Dude, you are a life saver! We had a one time shot to film an interview, and all of our microphones except one went out right before the interview, and we had to use a handheld, and there was so much noise in it. Granted, I lost some of the vocal dynamic range, but at least the interview is salvagable now!

Is there a wrap that we could add over to reduce noise?

Foam bicycle handlebar grips is the answer. Cheapest you could find ;) I paid $1.26 for a pair. Just check the inner diameter and color...

Called a "high pass" because it passes the higher frequencies, one assumes.

Just so you know, he's demonstrating the wrong way of holding a cardioid microphone such as sm58 etc... you need to point it towards your mouth... not the ceiling...
That style of handling is sure to get really bad signal level and induce a lot of feedback problems...
    C'mon... basics!

@@lastwarning1 I'm a sound tech, so I think my educated views can be of service.
To handling noise , as with any kind of noise the STNR is the king, thus before you start worrying about the handling noise, you need to worry about your STNR in general and part of that is proper mic position and direction.
      Thus i said "basics"...

Read the title.. this video is about “Microphone handling noise”, not mic placement or proper speaking in a mic technique.. the only difference in speaking off axis to directly on the capsule is a fuller sound compared to a thinner sound. I know singers who start a song singing off axis then while the song builds up they’ll sing more directly on the mic for a more dynamic effect, or off for the verses and full on during the choruses. 🎤

@@ronnieparfait If you want strong signal to HANDLING (or any) noise ratio... you must use it properly or it's moot test...
