    I would love to ski Pipeline, but I could not do the hike on the ridge and, especially, climbing down that crux before reaching the top of the chute. Cheers to you for getting it done!

    Before the end of the season, enough snow fell so that the downclimb was not necessary! Congrats on this adventure!

    I've been dreaming of skiing this for years! I was there that day it was opened ... but didn't know it was opened! Fingers crossed they open it again!

    • @TheBlacktulips
      @TheBlacktulips  2 года назад +2

      Pretty sure it will open again this year. Could be as soon as this weekend. Road to Provo normally opens at first clear day after storm, normally rest of the mineral basin at the same time, then thunderbowl the day after, then boundary bowl, then a day or two later Baldy bowl and pipeline. All you need is good snowpack and 5-6 day of clear days

    What is the Fing point to do this run if once you get to the top you have to ski for 2sec and then hike down a cliff face lol

    Awesome! How steep is it compared to double black diamonds at snowbird?

    • @TheBlacktulips
      @TheBlacktulips  2 года назад +2

      I'd say a little steeper than most double black, but not by too much. if you have skied Baldy chutes, it is steeper than main chute but flatter than little chute. Also it's quite open and you don't get the chute feeling like in Baldy chutes.

  • @Caliban1616
    @Caliban1616 2 года назад +3

    Wow, amazing accomplishment--congrats!! Would it be better to have an ice axe on that sketchy down climb? How exposed is that? It's hard to tell cause when threw your poles they landed without sliding.

    • @TheBlacktulips
      @TheBlacktulips  2 года назад +5

      The down climb was class 3, meaning if you fall you will get hurt but unlikely to tumble all the way down and die (otherwise class 4) because of that little flat spot I threw my pole to. Ice axe is not needed but will definitely make it much easier because of lack of good hand holds. Having a partner is important (and required). The stronger climber can go first and help the 2nd person by standing right underneath and guide him/her where to put the boots

    Question: I another video on pipeline where they said you needed avy gear and to sign out with patrol. Any truth to that?

    • @TheBlacktulips
      @TheBlacktulips  Год назад

      Yes, you need avi gear and a partner. This is for crowd control rather than tea avi danger. And they don’t check but you don’t want to get caught without it because they will take the pass

    • @TheBlacktulips

      Mostly informed by friends who were on the mountains. Also somewhat predictable based on the weather. After a major storm if it is dry for 5+ days there is a chance.

    How steep is this compared to Big Couloir in Big Sky?

    • @TheBlacktulips
      @TheBlacktulips  2 года назад +1

      i'd say it is steep but not as deep as big couloir. I think the climb is harder than the skiing.

  • @brettballe5502

    Is there a way to find out if it is open?

    • @TheBlacktulips
      @TheBlacktulips  Год назад +1

      nowhere to check directly on internet. but you can get a good guess. This is the last place ski patrol opens, so if there is anywhere else not open, then this is not open. If boundary bowl is open, and the next day is sunny no wind, then pipeline could be open. Go to the top of hidden peak to check with ski patrol to find out.

    Confused why you didn't put your skis on your pack for the downclimb. I know gopro makes things look so much steeper and it is not even close to what it looks like but why not? You slip a little and have to self arrest you most likely drop your skis. You would be fine downclimbing to them but that doesn't seem fun.
