the cow was a Guernsey, I had a herd of them, showed them at state fairs, etc. Many people forget who provides much of the food we eat, and farming is like going into a casino and putting all your money on one spin of the roulette wheel when a farmer plants his land, weather, very little profit, a selfless risky occupation that is a 24/7 job, few will risk what a farmer does, and we are fewer every year, guess why? Profitabilty. This was a great TV series as was 12 O'Clock High
@@motomark9736 Which one here in Germany they breed up to three kinds, Schwarz gefleckte ( Deutsche Schwarzbunte ), Rot geflekte ( Deutsche Rotbunte )und schwarz geflekte Milchkühe also a German-Angus variation but that one is more rare Also FUN FACT: The ship of the famous pirat Störtebecker ( around 1400 )who operated out from Hellgoland for the English was a Longship called THE PLED COW ( DIE GEFLECKTE KUH )
Having grown up in a family of farmers and veterans, over a 150 yrs. worth, I am proud to know that I "come from good stock" as they say in these parts, always a complement! Great episode, one of my favorites yet
Calm down, and just enjoy the series. There are 152 episodes of Combat some are good, some are not, some are funny, some are sad and most are really, really GOOD. If you don’t like the story line, look at the acting or something else. This was a really good series to be produced in the ‘60s, not like some of the technological junk created today.
the reason we cry or feel bad for the animal is because they are helpless and and cant defend themselves where as a human can seeing a person beat up or killed doesnt bother me as much as seeing a poor dog or cat getting beat or tortured call me weird but thats how i feel i love all animals humans not so much
Humans sometimes show sympathy for "a cow" more than for fellow humans. My thoughts are that the poor stupid cos is Innocent, whereas a man in uniform makes a decision to become a warrior and is no longer "innocent". Even a guy who eats a T-Bone or pot roast still feels sympathy for the poor dumb animal who is killed for no reason. The Farmer murdered a young German with a bayonet without remorse while worrying about whether the calf would be fed. We are a strange lot...
Every Combat episode is superb but this one I don't understand... a life for an animal???? OK, I'm not a farmer but even farmers know that human life supersedes that of an animal and especially in war!
@@mariaedwards6371 You've been infected by the disease or mental disorder of liberalism. That cow died because orders were not followed. Kerby was right not to trust a man who clearly did not know what the big picture was. Because of that, the cow died and men died. In the old poem about the shot heard round the world, the farmers turned into soldiers, and knew the big picture was not about a cow. But about winning a war, and saving the country for all cows.
If he had not propped the gate open that cow would have not been killed. IMO you never leave the barn door open. The people would have been back in time to feed their cow before she died.
Kirby is a total asshole. He’s a genius in war but with a mouth like that I totally admire the way Saunders handles him. He ignores them. But Kirby demonstrated admirable leadership and respnsibility in an episode in Season 2, “The Long Way Home” with the actress Claudine Longet (Gallagher’s crush in 12 o’Clock High). He shed his asshole image when left on his own to face the enemy without Saunders, Caje, or Littlejohn around him. Reminds me of a lot of asshole teenagers or young troublemakers makers in civilian society today that lack attention. Leave them alone with no net to catch them and their imbedded stellar qualities suddenly emerge.

Saunders at 7:30 yells orders so loud the Germans in Berlin could hear him

Yeah. You're weird. And wretched.

The message this film is relaying is simply showing the evil and senselessness of war verses one mans desire to just live a simple life in peace.
No it shows follow orders. Had Farmer followed orders, not been such a pre-occupied idiot, the cow would have lived, he would have lived.

JP03 0 If anyone shot my dog i would kill. We all have our reasons.
War is senseless vs. ones desire to live a simple life. Farmer fought a different war.

Not everyone thinks humans are at the top of the chain.
@12:02 Doc is on target....Saunders is hip.....Kirby is clueless.
But Kerby knew the big picture at the moment, had good instincts, even though his education about history was low.

Menegangkan
Remember people it's a show
You tell em!!
I love these vdo but people die with eyes open like deer
It is stupid or righteous of him to be also killed while he killed Germans being angry with them who killed a cow?
Anyone noticed the male cow walking out of the Barn that the Germans shot ??? Then the calf cries for mom. hmmmmmmmmmm!
There are no 'male' cows. Steers and bulls are males.
