Whenever anyone says people using another artist's artstyle as a reference is the same as AI artwork I'm just gonna send them this. The amount of work and artistic know how that goes into something like this is insane, and the amount of skill needed to even do this shows how good of an artist you truly are. Excellent work!
If I could request another AK artist for you to do, I'd love to see an analysis on Kuroblood's artwork! His still is honestly insane and his designs are some of the best that gacha games have to offer in my opinion, so I feel a breakdown of that would be sick.

white clothing = most of shadow doesnt go under 50% but near it, and goes all the way to near 25% when very cramp and have ambient occlusion
black clothing = almost never goes over 50% unless for highlight
this gives that contrast feel overall
great vid about the -sat thing lol didnt notice that pattern
also i think(not sure but) never use such a strong gradient alone in a flat color background, also i noticed most artists never use a flat color background unless they use a really pop color (bright yellow like suteinuA) or just go paper color
also another thing i picked up from artists is that theres not enough brush texture, u should try doing painting over in the late stage, really helps a lot for me , also theres not enough red saturation outline for the skin(subsurface scattering) be careful not to overdo the saturation though mostly only the outline for neck part,
but for saturation under leg is higher because light bouncing around inside dress, i recommend trying ~80 bright for shadow with ur current saturation, and then use 100 bright and 50 sat red ink to slowly add on some subsurface edge scatter, gradient it out both ways on the neck cast shadow and then airbrush to add on some sat for parts like hands legs etc , and then finally bounce light

Even though I'm still very depressed I have something to look forward to when I draw again. Thank you for uploading your studies, you've given a struggling artist hope again 💕💕

    Really good study!
I like how you didnt focus on the "rules" of a single piece, but instead the relationships of those "rules" in all the pieces. Like when studying how they use color in general rather than just cherry picking one pieces color use. It's often over looked when people replicate art styles!
I would like to add that this same studying technique can be applied for the body proportions as well, like how they have generally a 1 to 1 shoulder to hip ratio in their female characters, or how they usually make shoulders the length of 1.5 heads tall, etc. Finding relationships like these will give more context to things like the "tapered legs" and in turn lead to less guess work!
    Overall stunning piece and study.

Amazing analysis. You nailed why I love Ask's artstyle; the flowy, ribbony hair, the slender silhouettes and the color palette!
Some tidbits I would like to contribute: Ask likes drawing slender builds and most of the time, the hair is kept together. Even when the hair is flowing in the wind, there are no flyaways. It makes for a neat hairstyle.
May I request you analyze Chuzenji? Her style is really beautiful, but somewhat confusing because there are lots of details. Or AzLing, the depresso maker.

I’m glad the vid was helpful! I’m not very versed on character design, but one rule I remember for colour palettes for designs in general is the 60/30/10 rule- it’s the ratio between the main, secondary and accent colour when you make a design. Also something to note is that in both Carnelian and Flint's skins they all use either black or white as the main colour so maybe try imitating that?
ㅎㅎ on RUclips has some pretty good art process livestreams on outfit design that might help. I think the 22.07.03 and 22.10.02 streams have character design for dark skinned characters.

    • @Jiin7

That should be the last step. When you are done with your art, combine all layers then create a new layer on top of the combined layers, set the blending mode to glow dodge. Then pick a dark color of your liking. If you want a glowing green reflected light pick a dark green in ur color wheel. If u pick a light green it will appear as white light.
