There is nothing that sounds better than a bass slide. Everytine I hear it in a song its just makes me happy. Im working on mine. Thanks so much for this video and explaining it so well!!!
Cheers, Ryan!
I decided to make the slide bass technique my signature sound. Love the sound and when you are playing in a three-piece band it fills in the open space.
Davide Romani of Change and BB&Q was a slide supremo....sometimes across two strings at once, or from one string to another on You Are My Melody. 😎
Great lesson as always on a technique I use too much😎😊
Thanks mate finally realized how to slide
Nice one!
Thank you sir
Very helpful👍🎸🎼
When I slide it gives off a squeaking sound from the friction on the strings. do you have any idea how to minimise that?
Not really sure what that squeaking sound is... Are they need stainless steel strings? Maybe the strings need to be worn in or you could try nickel strings?
@@OnlineBassCourses mine are stainless steel and i get the squeaking sound too, are they bad for this? i changed it from the nickel strings it came with becuase my skin was eating tru it, like the strings started turning orange.
@@Albertmars32 to be honest I don't have any experience with this sound. Have you tried the forums?
@@OnlineBassCourses he was talking about the scratchy sound the string makes when you slide. You know the sound, cmon.
@randymarsh5509 has kindly elaborated on your question. I have a lot of comments and emails to reply to and, in the moment, I didn't know what a squeaking sound was. If it's a scratchy sound, I wouldn't worry too much. It's natural especially with new stainless steel strings. It probably won't be a problem mixed with other instruments. You could use EQ to minimise it though - treble down might help.

how does your bass strings sound so tight like. is it just your muting technique?
Thanks. That bass does sound funky and tight anyway but I do work a lot on muting to control things as much as I can. I have a video on my channel on that somewhere.
3:56 "Boney M. - Never Change Lovers" has very similar slide.
Good spot!
There was a really good 70's funk band called Slave and they had a song called Slide. The song begins with a bass slide!
Mark Adams on bass - one of the greatest!
Thanks for the coment ❤
What about open string slides? Started learning a song with some open string slides and I'm struggling a bit. The song got a particular slide from open A to A8. What's the correct approach?
I'm not really sure what an open string slide is! If I were to play one, I'd pluck the A, then hammer my second finger onto about fret 2, then slide to fret 8. So you'd need a hammer-on first.
You would place your finger on the nut of your bass (which is above the 1st fret), and slide wherever. In your case, the A8. Hope you see this or figured it out overtime , as it’s been 2 years now.
Just got my 3rd bass which is a Ibanez micro and am digging it except the strings have to much friction which makes slides 🛝 hard 😢. I think I’m going to have to get the strings changed. I wonder if guitar center will do that for me for free (I got the 3 year warranty). I wonder it that applies. If you have a minute to respond would appreciate. Thanks.
Hi Mark! I’m afraid I have no idea but Guitar Centre definitely will. Send them a quick email. Good luck. 🤞
I keep finding that I have fret buzz in my slide and I can’t seem to figure out how to get rid of it… what should I do?
Hard to say without seeing you play but try pressing in a bit harder and/or sliding faster across the frets.
There’s always going to be some fret noise.
i swear i can play, i just forgot how to do the explosive slides, i dont know how
Is there a special lubricant for strings to keep them from cutting you or is it just that some strings are better than others? I tried sliding playing Slipknot once and just a couple times of doing it and I had a massive piece of skin lifting off my finger. I have D'Addario strings, the largest gauge spiral wounds that Guitar Center had... they do seem to be a lot rougher than the previous set I had that I think were black label Warwick strings.. just the ones that came on it when I bought it, they had black thread on both ends.
Listening to Foo Fighters and David Bowie doing Hallo Spaceboy just makes me cringe because the are sliding literally the whole song.
That sounds like you need new strings! Sounds painful. Once you build up a few calluses, slides should NOT cause this at all. So that suggests maybe the strings needs changing.
@@OnlineBassCourses they were brand new strings, just not smooth at all, the windings were pretty wide and if you hold them up in front of something you can see the peaks and valleys
@@jaratt85 I'd take photos and get a refund.
@@OnlineBassCourses it's been too many years, I don't play much so it mostly just sits around.. mostly because I need a bigger amp, I only bought a Peavy Max 110 when I bought it, didn't realize that Guitar Center will haggle in person. It just completely overdrives the amp without getting loud enough for my crappy ears. Unfortunately being autistic, having back issues and IBS, getting a job is damn near impossible so I don't have money to do the things I dream of.
I just join and subscribe the channel I want to ask how many stages would a person leaning bass should do

What bass are you using? Looks a bit like the Music Man StingRay. Sounds good. Nice lesson on sliding and I'll practice it tonight.
You’re right. 1978 MusicMan StingRay 4. Thanks for watching!
It's a Pre Ernie Ball MusicMan StringRay. Classic Bass!!
what is this technique called 00:56
please someone tell me
Don’t worry, I’ll tell you! It’s…a slide. Slide up, hit a note and slide down.
@@OnlineBassCourses Thanks 😀
You mean a slide? It's why you're here!
3:40 pac man
bass drop 🤣🤣🤣
I look where im sliding to but cannot stop overshooting the fret.
With time and regular practice you’ll get it. Good luck!
