you killed it ...!!!.... nobody properly showcased the difference between rolling shutter by doing quick movement, whips and non ibis videos..... and my man you did it.. thank you... GS look impressive.... doesnt feel like its from a mirroeless camera.. finally
Thanks, Jeven! Great to see some actual shooting comparisons as most people so far are just showing vids of themselves standing a the conference and reading off he specs. (Because no one was briefed in advance.) It also looks like you are sporting the new/coming Shimoda bag. Cool!
Just Imagine what the A7S4 is gonna be like with global shutter!
This camera what im waiting for
Will be insane!!
Never happening
When A7S4 will come out?
I don't see it. It will likely be a Series 9 exclusive for now. Series A after that. Series R after that. And only after all of that trickle down to basic cameras.
Nice the lowlight performance is pretty impressive!
From the one night I had it the footage looks great. Need to take it out and test in the wild
- Can you shoot over 120fps using cropped mode?
- What's the deal with 250 ISO?
- Did dynamic range take a hit?
- Did they add a search feature to the menu?
- Can you dial in the exact FPS that you want?
- Will Sony have a good trade in program for late generation cameras?
- Have they added an ability to set the menu via computer/phone software?
Thanks in advance!
Finally someone has put some footage up! 😀 Thanks man. Hoping that this GS sensor tech flows down pretty quickly to the next iteration of a7. Rolling shutter artefacts have that odd effect where your brain recognises it in fast moving footage, but can't quite pin down why things don't look quite right.
Impressive camera. Looking forward to more reviews 🙌🏽🙌🏽
More to come!
Great review Jeven as usual , it is really good news that this tech has finally landed and will filter through to entry level models in the next 3 or 4 years as it always does , keep up the great work .
I read the low noise performance suffers with the global shutter, with increased noise in the shadows. Is this what you experienced?
Thanks for the initial impressions. Look forward to you using it in the field when you get your hands on one.
You don’t know what you’re talking about… The creator was always on a gimbal or some very high-end crane. That’s why it doesn’t bounce all over the place. For people without a ton of money the global shutter is game changing.
Just found your channel while looking for deep dive content regarding the Sony a9 III. I'm looking for an ongoing dedicated expert user resource regarding this camera, I"m hoping that's going to be you guys but I should continue looking everywhere. Belated Thank You for these a9 III videos!
Am I to understand this correctly, with a global shutter, there is absolutely no need and no benefit to having a physical shutter?
Correct - unless there is a dynamic range hit. We will have to wait for some in-depth tests. Also no shutter to wear out, only the switches, buttons and dials which typically last longer and are generally cheaper to replace.
@@LyndonPatrickSmithI mean, that would be great for us consumers but not so great for the manufacturers since cameras would last way longer & it would be only down to software advancement which they would be pressured into releasing through firmware updates to keep ppl happy.
From a business standpoint, it wouldn't make sense for manufacturers because you wouldn't wanna "upgrade" to their latest model anymore unless there's a major hardware change/advancement with every release.
So I doubt they'll prevent the "hit" to the dynamic range. There always has to be a compromise.
I may be totally wrong though. I hope I am.
Yes. In fact, the Sony A9 III actually does NOT have a physical shutter. But it still retains the sensor cover for antidust when switching lenses.
The shutter sound you hear is actually artificial. I believe you can turn it off for silent shooting.
Great!! Hdmi output is in 16 bit RAW ??? Goodjbs
Nice jacket. ;). Great video, man. You always bring it!!
Just came here from Matti's video and I like your style just as much, if not even more! Great job!
The first video I've watched that discussed Video on the A9III. Global shutter is huge for video.
HUGE
Dude. Outstanding video buddy! Congrats on 1 Milly too!!!!
Thank you 🙏
handheld footage looks AMAZING
very well looking, as expected
i fought longly for global shutters/syncron schematic/paraell shift registers
The global shutter has a greater effect on warming up the sensor, reduces the dynamic range and makes the image noisier.
Image looks good to me
the flash option is really a game changer
Awesome work Jeven 👊
seeing the highest iso you have used base on your test, iso25600..and seems I did not see any noise at all..great review Jeven..thumbs up
First video ive seen with video focus on this camera. Even with YT compression, I can see some noise as it gets higher, but it's not as much as I was expecting tbh. Pretty impressed!
Wow, those action shots are incredibly sharp! I can really see the difference.
the low light looked well too
the sensor actually dont get more light sensitiv using a different iso thats a myth
it use a software algo to push the picture/video
therefore you can take a RAW picture at 100 iso and then boost it in photoshop, to see how many pixels where really generated
a trick that is often used is multiple pictures and stacking them (at different shutter speeds 1/10 to 1/20 means a lot more pixels , if the light was actually low)
thats a trick we still have to lern from smartphones
Basically you did it right with a shake thing, and there were a few shots that looked like a Hollywood movie, but overall there were too many shots with overshakiness, and that's not filmic, because Hollywood global shutter cameras are heavy, and so they're producing more gentle shakes
I have never liked rolling shutter jelly so this camera is a goal for me.
Overheating even i thought of.. only time will tell.. im sure someone will upload their tests on RUclips.. glad you acknowledged it.
First thing we need to talk about: why is video still cropped to 16:9?
Great video! Question why does some of the footage look Shaky/a little wobble on the corners.
Seems like a great new camera from Sony. And that Global shutter is very impressive. Great review, and thanks for sharing Jeven.
It really is!
So much of the video specs and features are similar to my Nikon z9. The global shutter is amazing though and will revolutionize mirrorless cameras for extreme action shooting.
05:59 Iphonedo? what a coincidence :) I follow him with pleasure too :) great review! thanks!
Great video 💯
Just find it funny that it was tagged full frame DSLR
Thanks Jeven first look at the low light capabilities, certainly useful, more work required but not looking too bad. In theory this is the obvious choice going forward with the Global shutter . I loved the A9 & the A9II will the A9 III be the same. Leaning more towards it after this one ... Awesome
Yuo waiting for Gerald undone 😊
The camera looks pretty incredible, would be excited to see some overland content shot with it.
As soon as I get one to do more testing with I’m taking it out to some trails 🛻
The video footage from it really is such a different look, though I wish you uploaded this at 60 FPS so we could fully appreciate the difference
crazy specs and awesome tech inside this little body. stingy price but fair! amazed how stable handheld footage is!
Thanks, great footage. I don't shoot video on my A1 and A9, but your footage gave me a good impression, what this camera can do.
Great review. Low light looks fine
2:40 Heeey, whats up Matti! haha I'm sure every youtube photographer was at this Sony event!
Super amazing and interesting. Thank you.
I hope the global shutter will eliminate the rolling lines when against shooting led walls
6:13 seems like moire in the top building windows is very intrusive, is this a render bug or from camera?
Beautiful
Hi Jeven - thanks for the video. You are terrific at this stuff.
Hey, thanks!
A1 ii is gonna be a beast
Thanks for the great review. I love this stuff...
Thanks for watching!
Great, as always. You really know how to make great images and keep us watching til the end of the video! I wish I could be that good... Anyway, will you replace your A7S3 by this A9 3 (I mean, if spending $2k extra was not the issue)? I'm a CANON user, planning to upgrade my whole gear setup with mirrorless body (the upcoming R5 2) and RF lenses (especially the new RF 24-105 f2.8). From what I understand so far, the R5 2 may not be as expensive as the A9 3. Is this global shutter from SONY worth switching to a brand new environment or should I wait until the R5 2 is released (even if there is no global shutter)?
It really has everything I want and more especially the screen. Il like 24 mp. This and a7R5 complement each other well
Which cinema cameras currently got Global Shutter ??? Like from ARRI or Red Monstro ???

Awesome info...thanks Jeven
Maybe after a couple years used unless I'm balling hard :) Already have a couple cams to fit the job.
Что-то детализации не хватает, мыльные отрывки снятые на a9 III
0:31-0:37 intro footage looks great! looks like is has solid DR (a concern i had).
When the boxing footage comes in, the shutter speed looks pretty slow. To my eye it looks like 1/25 with a lot of blur trails. What shutter speed/angle was it shot in? I typically do 90 degree shutter for sports and this looks a lot more blurry than I expected
5:59 what is the exposure flicker here?
That's a sweet camera!
Did you use Premiere Beta's audio "Enhance" for this vid? Sounds so clean but has an AI/robotic distortion to the vocals
It was super windy. I use Auphonic which made it sound clean but because of the bad wind sounds it had some robotic issues.
@@JevenDovey For being super windy, that did a damn good job haha. Was curious 'cause I experienced something similar with Premiere's tool. Thanks for the response, and great vid!
Auphonic works super well and has gotten better recently. I did a video on it a while ago. Its not perfect with something like strong wind but it does a crazy good job otherwise. ruclips.net/video/JXw-srjHnEc/видео.htmlsi=v7nMAH8XP2D9G6n9
Did you ride a Royal Enfield in Andrapardesh?, that was cool
👍
Thanks JD
What I wanna know is, overhearing and low light
2:24 You should have used an A7iv to make the rolling/global shutter comparison. The a7sIII rolling shutter is way too fast to be noticeable in most scenarios.
Ok
Thank you very much🙏I vant this device🎉
Not for landscape, not for astrophotography, not for portrait, not for table top amongst others. Is it correct to say so??
Why would it not work for those?
Great detailed review, thanks. But what happened with your audio?
It was super windy so I cleaned it up using an ai software. Sounds much better but adds a robotic quality
@@JevenDoveyoh ok understood. I was supposed that you weren't using DJI or any other wireless mic
Amazing break down as always! Would you be willing to upload some of the footage to google drive for a better testing of grade and global shutter cadence?
Awesome analysis. To be honest however, I didn’t not the difference on the A7Siii…
i understand that new technology is expensive, but 6k for just de body is insane
It’s cheaper than an A1.
It's sounds great but I don't trust Sony all that much no more (A1 owner). Burnt 🔥 with top end camera missing out on lower end camera features. Hopefully other companies now do similar and eat into this market that Sony will dominate for the next few months.
I am glad not over the top with AI chips neither.
@@KNOWNSTUDIO-8K-Walking-Tours A1 & A7SIII updates are coming. They announced it at the event this week.
@@KNOWNSTUDIO-8K-Walking-Tours
Same here they’ve just forgotten the people that own the A1
@@JevenDovey yes I saw 👍, IPTC in-house was the thing that i could use that helps workflow of taking shots for news etc. I wanted new codec container - XAVC HS+ ... Ie 8k60 @400mb but think wishful thinking sadly.
My a9 mark1 is very sad now 😢
A9 III is impressive
can i ask you why ???
What's the dynamic range?
Amazing!
… checkout the noise performance between ISO 5000 and ISO 6400. It seems that Jake from CVP find here at 6400 the second base ISO after 2000. 🤔 If that’s the case it would great for video working.
I had it for 24 hours. Need more time with the camera to play with the low light. I’m told 1 base iso
So it has a ccd instead of cmos? Years ago this was normal.
Stacked CMOS…
@@praveenacchacko cool 😁
Dose the A9 III feel as dense as it looks?
can you close down its shutter angle? let's say 180º to 90º or 45º?
Impressive camera, but I don’t think I need to be shooting 4k 120fps. One feature I would be paying for but not be using. But everything else seems tempting to over come that.
Well adding 4k 120 to this is not really a feature but just software using the existing HW. The price wouldn't drop a dollar if this feature did not exist.
Great content. If you were to buy a camera today, would you purchase an fx3, Canon R6 Mark 2, or Zv-e1 for vlog/doc content or any other suggestions
I'll go to fx3
For vlog ZV-E1 but if you’re doing more doc work then the FX3. Same sensor but features are different.
1M subs bro we made it🎉😂
what kind of card this camera needs? raw 120 fps, for how long?
Is that a Royal Enfield Classic 350?
Can you confirm if 4k120 works with any active steady shot. It does not in any other Sony camera.
Also, is there a Super35 capability in 4k60 or even 4k120?
Hi, does it have a sensor protector like the Z9? Also, whats the buffer depth? Thx
I hope global shutter becomes the default in most cameras.
Is it going to be Netflix approved?
informative video
whats the difference between this and the a7rv aside from the global shutter? they both look alike to me..
120 FPS Max
Precapture
I don't understand all the hype around this thing. For the same money, you could buy a proper cinema camera, the Red Komodo. It also has a global shutter, but with a vastly superior codec, exposure tools and beautiful 16-bit colors.
Does it have a 'AA' filter?
Yeah yeah great video, what I really want to know about this camera is how do I explain it to the wife?
Why no dual gain Iso?
Open gate for video?
This camera isn't even rated to shoot in temps below 30*... That's a joke. I shoot every winter all winter in -1 to -10. Indoors barrel racing isn't warm in the winter!
11:08 IBIS disabled here? Very jittery.
i am really happy with my nikon z9. many things i saw already on sony camera channel which you are explaining here. its only a hype 1/80000. On ground the reality is very different. its only 24.6mp. You can't experience the real things its just a review for youtube views. every year these companies are launching new cameras but if someone want to know about the reality and limitations about these cameras they can only experience with their own.
But it's game changing
The next camera to have almost no rolling shutter is the FX3.
Yes but it still has some.
would you be able to mount rode mic ? and is it great for vlog
Yes
I need 60m pixies.
7:45 was that manual focus?
Yes it was.
