That's awesome, thanks for watching! Wishing you all the best as you explore this beautiful country. And yes, there are a LoT of Canadians here ;) So grateful to Mexico for welcoming us with open arms!
Excellent guy order the nice chicken dinner and enjoying a joy well done. So happy for you. Please be safe. I live on the gulf coast of the gulf of Mexico and we get storms. I was walking my local spot and saw the many boards lying around. I usually re use it.
Yeah that dinner at the end of a very long day was so nice, and yeah thanks, the storms here are something else hey? You take care too, thanks for watching!
Hi Charlie from Boston here. Not sure where you built? I recently visited Bucerias and loved it. Recent widower.I am considering a build but wasn’t sure I could afford it until I watched your video. I will watch chapter 2 now. Kudos to you for your perseverance after that storm. I admire your courage. I will check out chapter 2 now
Hi Charlie, so sorry for your loss. Thank you for your kind words, and I'm happy to hear that I'm inspiring you in some way. Building here definitely takes perseverance, with or without a storm, but it definitely can be done. Inflation is happening here as it is everywhere, so prepare for that in your budget. I'm not familiar with Bucerias at all, so I can't be sure what you can build for there, but one step at a time, you'll figure it out :)
@@BlueSkySanctuaryBaja Thank you also for the kind words and the quick response. New England is beautiful this time of year I will stay here until November I think I will rent this winter in Mexico. Renting is So inexpensive I am not rushing into anything. I have been seeing more and more people wintering there. I certainly am glad I decided to go there. My words are in adequate to explain what I found there. I will return again and again. Good luck and best wishes in all your endeavors😊
@@charliemulligan1988 You're welcome Charlie, and I think that sounds like an excellent plan!! I wouldn't encourage you to rush into purchasing anything either. I'd been coming here for 4 years before I decided to buy. Good luck and all the best to you as well, cheers! 😊
City water & CFE yes, no such thing as sewer here, just septic, which you install yourself, as we did. Second build, no city water or CFE. Living on trucked water & solar. So far so good.
All in I might say it was closer to 80, but it's all dust in the wind now, as prices have jumped & the dollar has dropped. The lot I bought for 20g seven years ago would sell for 40 now easy. The house cost is easily double as well, labor & materials both. Still, 160k for property & a house fully paid for isn't bad lol
So impressive! How much did you know about construction in general, or construction in Mexico, in particular? Did you find particular websites, RUclips channels, books helpful? Also, did you consider Adobe as an option? Sorry to overwhelm you with. Just so inspired by what you did. Thanks for shaping.
Hey Seamus good questions! If you watched my Chapter One video you might have noticed I go about things in a fairly unusual way.. ;) I confess I knew little about construction, I watched only a few youtube videos on how to build with cinderblocks, and then went from there! Sometimes I feel the less I know the better, believe it or not. If I know too much I might talk myself out of things, or get overwhelmed. I did consider a rammed earth house, and or making a structure that was more integrated with Mother Nature but when I got here & the project started, I defaulted to the mainstream way of doing things. I didn't get as creative as I expected I would. Maybe on the next project I will. Thanks for watching, stoked that you're feeling inspired!
Hey Seamus, I just came across your question & my reply today & wanted to add that while I knew next to nothing about building, I did have a small handful of people building with & for me who knew plenty, and that's what made it all possible really. Well that, and my perseverance & tenacity haha ;)
This is awesome! I have a lot in Baja California and I’m thinking about maybe investing 50k to build a moderate size vacation home when I visit. Was block the only option or could you have chosen block and a wood structure?
Thanks Jake! Block is more readily available, cheaper, and it stands up to the elements the best. I've also been warned countless times to not use wood due to risk of termite damage. I have a wood gate that's growing mildew, so that's also an issue. Having said all that I still might use wood in some of my future projects lol
Bricks are better they are termicos when real hot out house kind of fresh and cool when cold house alittle warm. If you seal all the little cracks and get double pane vynil windows of course
Hey Brian, I found mine in La Ventana about 4 years ago. I haven't seen one like it for sale since, but that's not to say they're not around. Mine was ~ $4500US but I think they're up a bit in value now due to demand. With the high ceiling & open floor plan I like it much more than regular campers that's for sure! I left my property about an hour before the eye of the storm hit, it was an intense experience! I'm grateful that the windows didn't get blown out. It did tip a little though, I know that because the balancing jacks underneath were tipped over the following morning. Next time I'm going to put posts deep in the ground so that I can chain it down. It was only a 2 out of 5 hurricane. A 5 out of 5 would definitely blow it over!
just found another Canadian. This is super inspirational- what we want to do in the future. By using our Van to explore first for the next few years..

Your smile and spirit help my morale.
Thank you.
Aw thanks tanksouth!
Not only do you lift cement, but you even sweep cement, now that is bad ass!
💪
Working with cement creates so much dust. Soo much sweeping! 🤣
