I ended up in rehab how many of us do. I had to go to therapy once a week. At one point my therapist (who was great) asked me how I really felt about life...my life...the world in general. I sent her a link to this video and said if you understand this you understand me. Going on three years clean. Not because I was forced. Because I wanted to be free. Love you Tony. Hope you are free.
As a huge fan of Anthony Bourdain and the show Parts Unknown, I have to admit, this was by far the best closing of any show I've seen in a very long time! All the characters in the closing piece by Mark Lanegan all played a prominent role in the Parts Unknown - Seattle episode. Mark Lanegan's "Strange Religion" as performed here was simply amazing! In fact, I am now a new fan of Mark Lanegan.
I agree. A local Seattle reviewer totally lambasted this episode and particularly this scene. But this scene hit me hard... tragic, dream-like, beautiful.
@@sunyata150 - Well, this local Seattle reviewer loved it. The whole episode was random ... Seattle icons mixed with everyday Joe's ... and perfectly captured this weird, quirky, beautiful place.
Silent disease: depression. Even though you have everything, your brain and emotional instability are what rule you. This video, with this sound, became the perfect farewell for a guy like Bourdain. RIP
Out of all the great musicians, actors and TV personalities we have lost over the years, Tony is the only one I truly, truly miss. And now we have lost them both. RIP Tony and Mark
It’s clear you’re winding down, Anthony. Tired eyes but still as handsome as ever. One can see your struggle 20/20 hind. I hope you’re at peace and Pray for your family. See you in the next dimension. RIP!
I learned of Mark from Tony's final episodes. It is heartbreaking to watch two greats take their bow in this video. Mark and Tony, I stir my tiny whisk to you.
I allways thought that Tony did not think life was ok. Allways looking for better things, never thinking that he'ld find what he was looking for. But I agree with your sadness, I'll miss Tony for ever and ever.
It's early in the morning and I'm watching this while I look out over the lake. I'm balling. These were two of my favorites. Everytime I hear this song, it brings tears to my eyes. Coupled with the video, I just lost it.
I am SO DEVASTATED to lose Anthony Bourdain today. He loved Mark Lanegan as his FAVORITE artist, and this video really encapsulates the essence of who he is and how much he loved life. Thanks Mark... and RIP Anthony.
Two of my greatest loves, Mark Lanegan and pot. And Tony of course. It's a bleaker world without these guys. I love Anthony so much for giving Mark and this beautiful song a spotlight, it brings a smile to know there were probably tons of people who had never heard of Lanegan but saw this episode and this song and moment made them seek out his music. And if you already knew, it was a treat to get an alternate take from the album version, which is just perfect anyway.
I love Maria. We have meet for the first time at my first job, no, actually I am lying, it was police officer that gived me my first joint. I will start a little garden on my own.
Anthony Bourdain was one of my favorite chefs, authors and TV personalities. I loved all his shows, Cook's Tour, No Reservations, Parts Unknown et. al. I will miss him greatly and in fact already do. Thanks Tony for exposing me to Mark Lanegan. I now listen to Mark all the time especially this masterpiece "Strange Religion". Anthony you were the coolest guy on the planet. Maybe someday I will understand. For now RIP and I miss you buddy!! Tony B
Now Mark gone too, met him once on Screaming Tree's tour w-L7 and a local AZ Tempe band Sticky Thang! Great show, miss Tony, now Mark added to the miss list! I know how to make a great Omelet, roll a great doobie and I am 73 until May 14th of 2023. Bless these guys and WORLD WAKE THE FUCK UP!!
RIP Mark you will always be listened to and mentioned in my lifetime.I promise!GODSPEED to you and your absent friends whom you are with now and eternally.
Rest in peace, Anthony. You fearlessly traveled the world immersing yourself in different cultures, peoples, and their food showing us that while we have our differences, we are all very much the same. You will be sorely missed by so many. Thanks for letting me come along for the ride. Much respect and love.
One of my favorite episodes throughout all seasons. When I learned of Anthony's passing, I immediately thought of what Mark said about how he was feeling being back in Seattle, which was that he missed people/friends from back then that aren't around anymore. That hit me, especially since Chris Cornell just passed 6 months before the episode aired. I can't imagine how Mark feels about the news today.
So true! When Mark said about how he was feeling being back in Seattle, hit me hard! I really liked the feeling, and the understanding of Tony, did not need say anything else! RIP
After my third time in a row watching this video, the people here's comments brought more tears to my eyes. All of you are just as incredible as Mr. Bourdain. Thank you.
I found Anthony's writing in '99. I met him a few years later while I was photographing him for a story I was working on and invited him to come by a spot I was working in the evenings. He eventually did and filmed an episode of The Layover with some friends of mine. He wrote the way I think, and spoke the way I speak. I have cancer now and I'm writing a book. I hope people see some similarities to your writing in comparison to mine. Thanks for speaking to me in so many ways Anthony.
5-13-19....watched this Seattle episode for the first time....and it's the first time hearing Mark and this song.....im totally crushed...cant stop crying...R.i.p. Tony
How I will forever remember Tony, the lone traveler at the bar staring down at his mostly finished glass thinking about the next flight to catch, dish to eat, people to meet and talk to about the small things life has to offer that makes it beautiful. A true visionary and pioneer, Cheers Tony!
You touched so many lives, Mark, including mine. You will be dearly missed.
The Lone Wolf will be missed.
Me too, friend. That's why I'm here.
🙏
RIP Mark Lanegan, what a voice. Hope you and Anthony are sharing mad spliffs with your stories in heaven. Love from Turin, Italy
RIP Mark. Say hi to Tony for us.
Still hurts. Rip to them both.
I don't think there's ever been a more cool moment caught on film than when Anthony hands the camera man the joint
Miss you guys. Say hi to Tony for us Mark🙏🏽
Almost called it a day so many times
Didn't know what it felt like to be alive
RIP Mark
Goodbye Mark. Thank you for your music.

Enjoy the clarity. It isn't easy facing reality head up.
I wish you well Jason. This episode and song are just awesome.
Good on ya, Jason. As of this writing I’m nearly 3 years sober my self. Be good and take care.
Where have all my hero's gone....

Best closing to show ever. Somebody deserves an award for the shooting of this.
Agree, agree, AGREE!!!
Yes indeed
I recently saw the show and agree with you 100%. The ending is even more poignant given what happened after the show. A sad loss of a very cool dude.
Ditto....
And now Mark is gone as well. Tears streaming watching this.
So sad to hear the news of the death of Mark Lanegan today. They will be brothers now, somewhere.

Same. And now with a special kind of sadness.

The Bubblegum album is a masterpiece.
Really the whole career of Mark is majestic!
Boom...no fuckin doubt
“Because of you, I see a light”. “Because of you, I’ve been alive.” ---Absolute masterpiece. Life’s painful.
This song definitely has 'ending credits to your life' vibes 🎶
Dammit....miss both these legends....fly high boys....fly high 🍻
Yes. Troopers for the good side, both.
This episode was Tony's goodbye. Still busted up about it.
Always think about him.
:( Tony
same.
Many tears were shed
So sad
No other musician has affected me so deeply. I’m in disbelief suspension. This one hurts. Some strange religion.
I feel the same as you my friend. Lifelong fan through all of it ... Screaming Trees and solo .. just not right
2024 on the horizon. Still watching and listening to Anthony amd Mark. ❤

Just finished hearing this song (for the first time) on CNN's Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown. WOW!
Fan for life!

This episode made me cry with sadness and joy. Tony will be so missed. He made me feel like life was ok.

Such a dark song, for both Mark and Anthony.
Hauntingly beautiful.

I love how Bourdain offered the joint to both camera operators. But with the second it's like he's offering it to the viewer. All the feels

Anthony Bourdain was one of a kind....
He will be sorely missed by so many.....
Sometimes you just don't know the struggle inside people.
True!
He was one of us
A line cook.
We miss you Chef.
After all this time I still can't get through this part of the Seattle episode without crying my eyes out. I miss you B.
Respect Mark Lanegan! You did our city proud and I'm glad Anthony Bourdain did our fine city!
None of us will ever be half as cool as this. A man who truly lived. R.I.P. AB

Be at peace both of you and safe journey to the parts unknown. Roll a big fat joint for the world..
Saddest best end to a show ever.
I’ll always remember him this way. Passing a joint with his crew and drinking a beer, listening to great music. I still miss him
Ive been listen this song since i was 16yrs old, im 30 now...wow...thank you mark and RIP Anthony Bourdain...
This chokes me up
How I will forever remember Tony, the lone traveler at the bar staring down at his mostly finished glass thinking about the next flight to catch, dish to eat, people to meet and talk to about the small things life has to offer that makes it beautiful. A true visionary and pioneer, Cheers Tony!
2 fine souls departed too soon. Both left a lasting impression. This song captures the spirit of both so well. Timeless.
My mind instantly jumped to this part for some reason when I heard about his suicide..Something about his weary look
The way he pushes away the beer glass at the end, turns and leaves the frame...
The man was just...tired.
Ohh man the emotions that flood over me watching this is a bit much but I will survive...
