Happy Wednesday, Bridget! I could see that all of these methods for pairing up students would be engaging and encouraging for collaboration. Thank you so much for sharing! I am really enjoying your Vlogust videos! 💜
I love the food pairings. It would be so fun to use them at the beginning of the year to do quick , get to know you things so the kids get to know the pairs. My third graders would need that instruction. Their vocabulary and life experiences are lacking. Thanks for the great ideas. Good luck in your new position!
I like to offer students choice when possible but there are times when the focus is on hearing perspectives and being collaborative. Find out why… most of the time it is because they don’t like working with others and that is a result of little to no exposure. So get kids involved and collaborative often! My classes were more collaborative than they were independent, and it is because I knew they needed the practice of working with people. Once they realized that collaborative work was the norm, they would get more involved.

I saw another idea of having them get animal stickers and matching the stickers to form groups
What do you do with the child who wants to work by themselves?

Mic is low.
The microphone is not low. I can hear her fine turn up your volume.
