THANK YOU! I'm glad you noticed Anastasia hit her head trying to get on the train. For some reason, many reactors don't notice that and are clueless why she has amnesia.
Stand up ovation for Liz Callaway for giving Anastasia's singing voice LIFE! She also sang as Odette in the Swan Princess, Jasmine in one of the Aladdin sequels, and as Kiara in The Lion King 2 ♥
I had big a crush on Dimitri when I was little, I had this movie on VHS, had the doll when I was 9 years old and I always cry when Anastasia and her grandmother found each other. This movie is my childhood ❤️😭
Anastasia is, quite literally, my favorite animated movie of ALL TIME, and also in my TOP 3 favorite movies (in general) of all time. It’s just absolutely beautiful! The animation style is gorgeous, the characters are really well fleshed out (they feel like real adults and not super young, which is so refreshing), the voice acting was great, the chemistry between Anastasia and Dimitri is off the charts, her outfits are dazzling, the songs are iconic unforgettable MASTERPIECES!!!
Don Bluth really gave Disney a run for their money back in the day. He was a big believer in kids being able to handle almost anything scary or sad as long as the film had a happy ending. The Secret of NIMH and An American Tail are both gorgeous animations with seriously sad and stressful subject matter. Might as well mention The Land Before Time as well.
It may not be accurate to the real fall of the Romanov family, (trust me, it gets really sad,) but it's still one of director, Don Bluth's best films. The animation is amazing, and the songs slap, especially "In The Dark Of The Night. I hope you check out Bluth's other movies someday, including the prequel to this one.
The reality of what happened is so sad. They were horrible rulers, but their fate was very tragic. An entire generation held out hope that Anastasia was out there somewhere... and then we got the forensics in.
@@ChuuzusYes, he was a "Mystic healer" hired by the real life Romanov family to cure Anastasia's brother's hemophilia, and supposedly survived being poisoned, stabbed, and shot only succumbing to hypothermia when they threw him in a frozen river. In fact, the whole film is based on the real October Revolution that led to their downfall, and the subsequent claims from women that they were Anastasia, and they survived the royal family's execution. Sadly, DNA evidence after the film's release revealed that she hadn't.
Anastasia was one of those movies that hypnotized me as a child. Even now, the songs keep me on the edge of my seat to the very last note. It's so, so, *so* good.
This is a great, movie, but it's also sad to learn that the real Anastasia was executed by the Bolsheviks along with her family during the 1917 Russian Revolution. It was debated if she could have escaped at the time. And just like in the movie, many women claimed they were Anastasia. However, DNA proof that she didn’t was found not long after the film's release.
The voice cast was so amazing for this movie: Meg Ryan, John Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Christopher Lloyd, Hank Azaria, Bernadette Peters, Kirsten Dunst, and Angela Lansbury. Perfection.
I had the Anastasia official doll and it came with a little locket that played a portion of "Once Upon a December" when opened. I was OBSESSED with this movie and that song.
Rasputin's evil song reminds me of Be Prepared by Scar in Lion King. The green of the background, the hype feeling, the creatures(insects/hyenas) singing and marching in the background. Heck even the singing voice sounds kinda similar.
Some thing that may be missing.... all the title characters have actors for their voices BUT THEN ACTUAL SINGERS FOR SINGING THE SONGS. It makes a difference.
The director Don Bluth used to work for Disney, and Anastasia was definitely him trying to do a Disney-style movie In real life the Tsar of Russia was a mass-murdering monster who killed over a million of his own people, mostly Jews, and kept the poor cold and starved. That's why they rose up and overthrew him lol. Not that things got better after he was gone, but that's another story... Rasputin was a real guy, but he was long dead by the time of the Revolution. He wasn't an evil wizard, he was just a freak who used his position to have sex with as many women as he wanted, including the queen, which is why he was killed :P
Yeah, folks don't like to mention the pogroms. Unless you're talking about another great musical, Fiddler on the Roof, in which case, it's fun for the whole family ig
20:47 this scene is absolutely devastating if you really think about it.She follows her dead brother to the cliff and sees all of her sisters jumping off. After that she sees her parents wanting her to come to them.Sadly in real life all of the Russian royal children were executed the same moment they were found.real life Anastasia died on the spot.Absolutely horrifying
As an Eastern European kid, Anastasia was my favorite cause we never have much representation otherwise. I rewatched the video tape hundreds of times, was pretty traumatized when my mom told me the real story of Anastasia and her family!
Chu!!!! Your love and admiration for animated movies is amazing!!! It’s a shame that it isn’t always taken seriously as cinema when it literally has the potential to showcase (and has shown) stories in literally ANY genre.
I haven't seen Anastasia in FOREVER!! I love me some "Once Upon a December" though, which is what I assume you are referring to in the intro (I always toss comments down as the video goes along...lol).
Weird concedence, but yesterday, my colleagues and I were talking about what our favorite movie ever was, and a lot of us said Anastasia , it's a beautiful movie!"
Chuuuu! You did it again! Another great pick! I remember this as the first film I ever saw in theaters, I was 10 years old and what an experience. Cemented my love for movies and every single song in this are 🔥- my favorite song was always at the end, in the credits “Life is a Road.” Now that I have a daughter, it’s been so amazing showing her this iconic film. Thank you for taking me back and your impeccable taste. Hope you’re well luv!
i loved anastasia growing up. it sparked my love for history especially learning how inaccurate the plot was for this movie lol. if you liked this animated movie, i think you would also like fern gully and we're back - they all came out around the same time.
One of my childhood faves! My cousins and I used to sing Once Upon a December on repeat and I recently sang it to calm my one year old - now he loves it too ❤
oh yeah agreed, this movie scared me as a kid! (I still watched it anyway) the creepy green magic, especially Anastasia dreaming while almost falling off the boat-- those stuck with me as a kid
I love this movie SO much! The songs & animation are outstanding! This vid is filled with so much joy & happiness! I loved every minute!!! Thank you soo much Chuu!!! 🫶🏾🤗
We must’ve watched this on the same day because I had a rough day and needed a comforting movie and THIS made my day because it’s so fresh in my mind! Thank you!
I adore this movie! I sing the song "In The Dark Of The Night" on a weekly basis, in everyday conversations lmfao. I hope you do more animation, I love it!
This movie was my favourite non Disney movie but for the longest time as a kid I literally was like she is a Disney princess but mum was like honey no she isn’t a Disney princess and shattered my heart
I love love love seeing you enjoying and recognizing how Incredible this movie is from top down!!! Dimitri and Anastasia started my obsession of enemies to lovers fr
OMG!!!! you're literally making my week with this upload. This is a tradition for my mum and I every Christmas ❤. She also goes by Anastasia so it's one of her favorite animations 😅. PS: THIS IS MY ENEMIES TO LOVERS DEBUT!!!!!!
Wait I just had the thought did Dimitri ever tell Anasatia he was the boy she mentioned. He told the partner guy and the grandmother realized it but did he ever tell her?
I loved this movie growing up and the music so powerful ad catchy, there are time you just want to sing along. But I honestly love the villain in this story and movie. Finally, a real terrifying villain that matches his character. I liked this movie. and this was a fun reaction.
I forgot how much I love this movie! I even had the Anastasia barbie lol. It made me wanna learn Russian since I'm part Russian but omg it was hard af lol. They got some bomb ass songs though. And the song that Rasputin sings, in the dark of the night, the Russian version is lit af 🔥❤
THANK YOU! I'm glad you noticed Anastasia hit her head trying to get on the train. For some reason, many reactors don't notice that and are clueless why she has amnesia.
AND IT IS SO FRUSTRATING EVERY TIME
Honestly
I love a commentator with actual media literacy.
You saying "eat the rich" within the first five minutes of the reaction is so funny given the subject matter lmaooooo
THAT part… strangely enough I now have the urge to play the polarizing disco hit “Rasputin” by Boney M 😂
Eat the rich but not their kids
Stand up ovation for Liz Callaway for giving Anastasia's singing voice LIFE! She also sang as Odette in the Swan Princess, Jasmine in one of the Aladdin sequels, and as Kiara in The Lion King 2 ♥
The animation is absolutely gorgeous. I knew all of the lyrics to "Once Upon a December", and still do, to this day.
The only thing I remembered about this film for like 15 years Suuuuch a classic
i love everything about Anastasia! it’s so phenomenal
No because like literally you guys don’t understand. He’s watching the must iconic movie ever.
