The black glue around the coil to cone join is often softened by acetone, but that looks like a JBL in which case the most likely solvent is naptha (lighter fluid) Nice speaker. Well worth rebuilding.
The rebuild is very nice. The sound is wierd... I think the mic was swamped with to much sound?? If you treat the cone with a fluid and the cone becomes heavier you alter the moving mass from the unit and the Fs from the speaker. Did you account for that??
The editing to show the storm to explain the rain was brilliant. Keeping the story consistent so that we don't get thrown out of the "pocket." Thanks for the detail work!
I love watching you fix what one without knowledge would deem as unfixable. One thing I'd like to see is approx how much it would cost to do each repair....as in what you would charge the end user of the repaired component or equipment to do it. And with these larger subs...it seems like it takes a good amount of time to do a total refurb/restoration! How much would it cost to buy this or a comparable sub new vs how much would you charge to restore this one to good as or maybe even better as new condition. Keep up the great content!!!
i always reinforced the rim of the speaker outer cone with a few coats ov PVA wood glue.as i play a lot of dub bass n it needs reinforcing...just a thought...great vid, bought back memories of building me cabs back in the days
Excellent!!! Just one question: what kind of liquid do you use to remove parts such as seals, suspension, diaphragm, etc...? and what type of glue do you use for reassembly?? Thank you
I think what you do is great. I restore and modify inexpensive electric guitars and basses, occasionally an amplifier. Your level restoration is inspiring. You might want to speed the video up in some spots, just to help keep us captivated. I'll admit, I turned up the speed on this video and didn't miss anything. Good Job! 👍
Terrific 💯 PERCENT Job with that sub woofer build I really appreciate your talent and skill craftship Wow that is some high-quality skills you have to make that subwoofer If you were to sell that subwoofer how much would you sell that type of subwoofer Great job 👍👌😊
Membrane...spring?. How about surround, dust cap and spider? He either used acetone (like nail polish remover) or naptha (lighter fluid), depending on the type of glue.
Most likely the metal walls of their shop rattling? I hope that is not what it sounds like in the middle of an open field. If they horn load that driver like the Cerwin Vega TS-42...party time.
You can’t just paint the cone with whatever. It changes its mass and resonance frequency Also you can’t just make a box whatever size you like. The volume directly impacts on the radiating area, resonance and mass interaction. Also it’ll sound boxy and hollow if it’s even slightly wrong.
@@syntheticcheetahOf course...You can also build a car and only put two wheels when four are foreseen... This is only a demonstration video but there is very little that is correct... Each speaker has precise specifications and on those data created a project to follow to obtain the characteristics expected for that woofer model... Here instead we are proceeding with a rout apparently.
You're absolutely right and that's what I thought while I was watching the clearly demonstrative video... Even the thickness of the material used doesn't seem adequate to me for that gigantic woofer then we have crossovers and toroidal transformers practically "thrown" inside the cabinet and I don't understand how they are fixed given that they are then subject to strong vibrations... Everything is in jeopardy and great manual skill is appreciated but one does not proceed randomly without a project derived from the characteristics of the woofer in question.
He's making something from a worthless piece of scrap and a few bits of wood. It's not a studio grade item after all and I'm sure It will sound better than no sub-woofer and certainly better than what it did before he started. Credit where credit is due.
`It is a great looking piece of kit and your craftsmanship is top notch,however.......lol I wouldnt put that piece in the front with the slot because I think it would cut off the really low long wave forms bigger than the hole. Most good designs offer an unobstructed path for low/large waves. the other slot is fine its just putting out the "backstroke" of the box. nice bit of kit tho!!!!
in the the 70's during the cinema epidemic of disaster movies, the Odeon (UK) had 36" speakers made with leather cones to enhance the experience; driven by valve amplifiers with DA100 output stages. A work colleague who was previously a projectionist made one into a coffee table.
Nabangit mo sir na di ka nagamit ng monitor out what if may acoustic band ka pwede na yan di ba. if needed ng monitor may effects send to monitor ba yan?
Ive experience also replacing speaker cone but didn't try assembling subwoofer but it much better if the hole youve made for exhaust of air must be circular and alike to the size of magnet so that the sound is pure bouncy rather than cracky.
The only way that speaker would accommodate 2000 watts is by dispersing the majority off in heat. And speakers already do that as they're incredibly inefficient.

About time for a new cutter in the router!

Nice speaker. Well worth rebuilding.
Not a JBL. While having the same basket JBL doesn't have this cone or motor on their 18s
The rebuild is very nice. The sound is wierd... I think the mic was swamped with to much sound?? If you treat the cone with a fluid and the cone becomes heavier you alter the moving mass from the unit and the Fs from the speaker. Did you account for that??
His mic and RUclips playback equalization don’t do justice to the sound.
It looks great and you did a great job making that subwoofer
I really appreciate your talent and ingenuity! Today I learned from you. really smart,

What's that mysterious liquid he's using in the beginning? Acetone? Alcohol?

I like you and profesional and I have subscribe. I am to Indonesia 🇮🇩.
Great if you like uninformative, boring videos with no narration.
You fu*ked up English
Wow a stomping subwoofer restoration

I have built loads of disco speaker boxes in the past. I had forgotten how much effort they take.
I also liked the rain on 10:30 and in the background!
Very impressive!
Nice time to do the job inside or under a cover when raining! The rain is nice!
Nice work, but the heat sink will rattle, not fastened.
The coil was put in bottomed out. Got to have equal distance centered on motor for linear excursion.
i heard it popping

As long as that copper coil is ok.Thats the main part needed!
You have to weld even the 2 giant condensators !
Hi, i'm from Brazil...I lke this channel very much... Congratulations and thanks.
Interesting build, with a bandpass enclosure.
I would have went with a transmission line, and pushed it into the deep bass territory, just for fun :D
Congratulate at your work
😎
Great job Sounds Great.
6:35 Glue for magnet?😮
Przepiękne jest ten stary zabytkowy głośnik odrestaurowany pozdrawiam serdecznie 👍👍👍👍👍
I would have made it 4th order. Instead of that front slot. I would seal it

Great job 👍👌😊
Wow that was a cool video great job
very nice work. not a fun of box texture. you should have raised the coil a bit. also fasten the heatsink and reverse the on/off switch.
What preparation do you use to remove the membrane and spring? Please help... Regards
Membrane...spring?. How about surround, dust cap and spider? He either used acetone (like nail polish remover) or naptha (lighter fluid), depending on the type of glue.
I’ve watched you restore junk this ain’t so much junk but still ..Great job

Show us how it's done then, peanut man. I bet it sounds good. Stop yapping like a porch pooch. Come off the porch and show something.

nice Job very good thx for your Video i like it

Nice video, but you're really messing with my OCD at 6:44 when you almost did the cross pattern tightening, but stopped half way xD
10:22 different glue? Name BF88?😅

Amazing restoration! it would have been awesome to see what was each element/tool/ingredient/component, tho.
