    If this is the new format, I'm all in. You're in such a powerful position when you have access to every ball and can directly compare the intricacies of them, not just the hook and backend. As bowlers, I think we're all aware there are no bad balls anymore, only balls the match specific styles. So if you're going to breakdown and compare similar balls for multiple styles\zones then what more could people ask for?
    I was looking for benchmark symmetric ball to start this year's league. I tried to do everything I could to compare and contrast the Idol Synergy and the Zen, but the best I could find was using your 3 ratings for hook\length\back end. If there was a video like this, I could have made such a better, more educated, and informed decision before I made the plunge.
    I also love the 3 ball comparison over just 2, as it really helps give a wider spectrum. All too often ball reviews just talk about how good the new ball is, but what bowlers want to really know, is how does it compare or differ from what we already own, or our alternative options for that same 'style' of balls\shape\motion.
    Best of luck with the new format, I hope I'm not the odd man out.

    That's what I'm talking about, great video!!! When I started bowling, I was just buying bowling balls that seemed to look good when other people threw it. This caused A LOT of overlap, which in turn caused a lot of confusion and even more money wasted. Like I've said before, if someone is bowling league a house shot league at the same house, there is absolutely no need to have more than 3 balls and a spare ball. If you need more than that over 3 games it is because; 1. You don't have the right balls 2. You're the problem, not the balls or 3. You wasted money on balls that overlap. This video displays that perfectly. There is no instance that 99% of league bowlers need more than one of these balls.

      I play straight myself; but in the league I bowl in, they change the pattern every week. And there are patterns that restrict you from playing on arrows 1-3.
      I like the UC2 because I can still throw straight on a deeper line and it performs well regardless. If I'm allowed that week to play the preferred line, I normally use the regular rubicon because it's a smoother arc. But nevertheless; both Rubicons are fantastic bowling balls all around. Best I've used since the days of the "danger zone" from Brunswick

    Excellent video, hit the mark perfectly. Love your honesty Luke, you tell it like it is with straight forward information and opinions on the balls. Most people could select any be of these balls and be totally fine. In my opinion, bowlers should spend time on their games, things like actual practice adjusting ball speed, and positions, playing various zones on the lanes etc…far too often I see people chasing the next ball which usually ends up in more confusion. Learn to bowl, build a logical arsenal with a few bowling balls and most will be able to handle any lane condition they will encounter (especially for the league bowler). It amazes me how many people walk into the same center week after week with six bowling balls…

      Zen is best ball I've ever had. You made a good choice. Zen is strong/angular enough for 90% of people in leagues. They just don't burn enough oil in 3 games to justify using a shiny asym like X2 or UC2. Can drill it with short pin and closed VAL but then you're essentially turning it into a Zen. That being said, X2 is absolutely brilliant in later blocks of a tournament.

      As Luke said, There's a lot of overlap between those 2 bowling balls. My pro shop operator probably wouldn't sell me both of them, unless I insisted. He is a different breed that actually cares about what is best for the bowler and not his pocket. I digress... I learned the hard way that overlap in my arsenal does more harm than good. Both on the wallet and the bowling game. The x2 can go as for left as I ever need. If I can't use the X2, I'll use a Zen. If I can't use a Zen, I'll use a phase 3. The only exception would be bowling a lot of sport short.

      @@donkeydiehard879 Yeah I probably would not have gotten the Alert but I was in a summer Hav a Ball and I elected to get that and the dark code which honestly is an amazing ball as well. But had I known about the X2 before hand I would have gotten that then instead of on my own. I had to get this one my X1 has gotten me 2 300's this year in league alone. I tend to stick with similar core types as it makes it easier to ball up or down accordingly ( I did something similarly with the IQ line as well). The bad thing about over lap now days is how various companies make balls that are similar to each other especially when they are from the same factory so its easy to do it and a good pro shop operator can usually help with this but the good news is really there are so many good balls that tend to fit every kind of style now days that the largest casualty is your wallet lol. Also, I agree the X2 is a beast from deep and doesn't care how far left you need to go it will hook. I use it when I can't use my Dark Code and if those don't work my pin down X1 gets the job done.

      @@davidreiter3370 he has a review on each one of them. If you watch them back to back you'll know the exact difference. These are literally just his 2 reviews mashed together. Takes a lot of time to make RUclips videos. So going through the trouble of mashinh two reviews together when it's just as easy for the viewer to watch them separately, doesn't make sense. I believe he is getting away from that. I watched his stream where he went over this, that's why I'm speaking on it. Then he can put out more new content rather than just making old content mixed together. He has a full time job and still manages to have an awesome channel. He kinda has to choose his battles. He also doesn't just do ball reviews/comparisons which is awesome. He talks about all things bowling but has been consumed with ball comparisons so he can't cover much else. I don't think he'd mind me saying Luis Napoles(may be spelled wrong.) Does comparison videos where he actually rolls them on the same lame back to back. The important thing with ball reviews is ball motion. Sounds dumb but Luke is really good at covering what each ball does front to back. That's the important part. Most people think about what a ball does side to side, e.g. angular or 'banana" shaped.

    I have the UC2 in my league bag alongside the Proton Physix and Idol Synergy. The centers for our Tuesday and Thursday leagues have different oil volumes, so I play the Proton to start for one house, but go right for the UC2 at the other. By game 3, transition has moved me so far inside, or forced my ball speed up, or both, that the Synergy seems like just too much of a step-down. I'd like to find something to bridge that gap, and I think either the X-2 or the Alert might be it...

      The X2 and UC2 are probably the best at that because they're clean covers and like angle. The Alert like straighter angles, but works well on longer and heavier patterns in transition when you still need to keep your angles closed. My problem is I’m seeing some shape very similar to my Zen and I feel I have enough control/flexibility to shape it within reason or change balls to go longer/sharper (P3) or rounder/smoother (PM). Can you see a good reason to seriously consider one of these for me? 200+ average/ 2 house leagues and a sport league.

    • @LukeRosdahl
      @LukeRosdahl  3 года назад

      If you’re more into symmetric stuff, the only reason to check out one of these is for a little cleaner cover, the 3 you mentioned all have pretty strong covers and sometimes when too much friction shows up the reaction can suffer a little, so one of these would give you a similar overall strength but with a cover that handles friction better without having to get a weaker ball. However, I’ve found the Idol Synergy to be invaluable in that role too, it’s actually my go to ball on a lot of things because the asyms can be too much torque sometimes

      Yeah they're in the same general zone or scope, the Alert is pretty round and controllable for a "flippy asym," so the use case and zones I use the Alert in are pretty similar to when I'd use an IQ Tour. If I needed a bit earlier and smoother reaction, I'd go IQ, but if the Emerald for example was a little long and slow, the Alert is the perfect fit right in there. Sounds odd to compare a shiny asym hybrid to a sanded sym solid, but they would pair remarkably well I would think just because of what they actually do on the lane.
